    Simply The Best

We are talking about the top of the line, first class, diet-defining rice cooker. Ive tried so many different combinations of water and rice to see if this thing will make nasty rice and it doesnt. Its actually wild how good each ratio is in its own way. Best feature is how long rice stays edible for. Always go for the extended keep warm feature. One thing id change is to using actual cup measurements instead of rice cup measurements in the directions. Also, a longer cord would be nice. But this is worth the money AND SOME!

    Worth the price

The best rice cooker in the market. It is easy to use and very sturdy. The quality is over the top and the results are amazing. Rice becomes perfection. Very flexible and I highly recommend.

    Rice best companion

If you want your rice to be delicious according to the flavor, I recommend you choose it, it can be set to a variety of modes, although there is a fast mode, but I recommend you still use the slow mode, so that the rice is sweet and delicious (of course, the choice of rice is also important).

I bought this in 2012 and it still works

As I find it harder to buy groceries these days I eat more rice than ever before. I was talking to a friend about my rice maker got curious and looked mine up. Amazon shows me I bought this in Aug of 2012. I still use it today. This rice maker still makes the perfect rice after heavy use for 11 years and shows no signs of giving up. The brand and machine type is worth the money investment. This is quality here and just thought it worthy of a review. We can’t afford to eat we definitely can’t afford to buy appliances often. This one, it will last you a long while. It won’t need to be replaced anytime soon after purchase.

    Convenient

The only benefit (at least for me) is convenience. Put some rice in, add water, push the button and it is ready in an hour or two. Cleaning is easy and does not take much time.

Reliable, quality rice cooker for those that eat rice regularly in their household

This is our third Zojirushi from Amazon. The first one was a bust and cooked rice unevenly. The second one was wonderful, and we had it for probably a decade before the seal was damaged and the rice began to cook unevenly. When we went to replace our rice cooker, I read reviews from different professional cooking and asian cooking websites and had it narrowed down to this rice cooker and the Fuzzy version of the Zojirushi for a similar price point. Ultimately, this one seemed to us like the updated model of the one we were replacing, plus it was better looking, so we went with it. We have had it for couple of weeks now, and cook a new batch of 4 cups of rice in it every other night. We eat a lot of rice! The rice is perfectly cooked every time. Zojirushi’s are great for those that like to leave their rice out on the counter and keep it hot. if you are an infrequent user, then I’d say, just go buy a $40 rice cooker. Our stays on the counter and cooks a new batch every 1-3 days. I don’t use the whistle and bells, like cooking cake or porridge, because this rice cooker always has rice in it. I love that rice is ready to eat whenever we want it because it stays hot and fresh in there, easily, for 24-48 hours. Also, I often use the timer feature to get the rice ready the night before but ask it to start cooking in the morning.

    Good quality

Very good quality and easy to use. We use it to primarily cook white rice, which takes 1hr. This is a bit slow, because our other rice cookers over the years usually take ~<30min.

The product was received in a timely manner and received damage free. I just berate myself slightly for not ordering this product much sooner. Enjoy!

    Best ever!

Without doubt the best rice cooker I’ve ever had. Wished I would have bought one years and years ago instead of all the cheaper models. It makes perfect rice every time and keeps it warm until you are ready without overcooking or drying out.

    Best rice cooker around

I came here today to write a review of a product I’ve owned for 6 years. This cooker still makes delicious rice every time like its new. A lot of people may not see the value in a rice cooker, but let me tell you rice is always cooked properly saving tons of time and impressing people who think you made on a stove. The rice pot is still in great shape after all these years and simple needs a light sponge and a rise after each use, its so easy to clean. It stores well with its retractable cord and doesn’t show any wear after years of use.Would recommend this rice cooker and brand to anyone who enjoys rice.

Zojirushi is a perfect ricer cooker

This is a very good rice cooker. It has simple selection menu and keep-warm function. It is nonstick, easy to clean, and cooks the rice moist all the time.

    Great rice cooker!

I have been looking at one of these rice cookers for some time. I have had a cheaper rice cooker for years, and while it did a decent job for white rice, the Zojirushi does a much better job on brown rice, and it has a wonderful warming function that keeps the rice perfect for hours. And it is beautiful sitting on our kitchen counter!

    Buy it!!

I have other multifunction kitchen gadgets that are technically “rice cookers” but I wanted one that was easy to use and for rice only. I saw this one on someone’s TikTok video (not promoting it in the video, just happened to show it) so I bought it based on how easy it was to use.I eat rice myself but I also cook rice for my old pup so I end up cooking a lot of rice, it’s nice that this can be set and forgot about while I go about my day. There are two pieces to clean, and they are super easy to clean, the top piece you just pull the grey tab, and it pops off and pops back on easy. Setting it up is quick.I know some people complained about the 1 cup not being a true 1 cup, I did a measurement from one of my steel 1 cup measuring cups, and the plastic cup is about 3/4 cup (the remaining rice is almost 1/4 cup as shown in pic), but their plastic cup gives the impression it measures at a cup based on the markings. I would just imagine this as 1 “scoop” in order to use their measurements properly. But you can also just measure your rice and water based on the measures you would for cooking on the stove.I have no regrets on this purchase, so if you are looking for a real rice cooker then I’d say buy this one.

Makes excellent rice. A couple of minor design flaws.

This makes really, really nice rice! The retractable cord is such a nice feature. Considering the cost of the product, there are a couple of critiques I do have on this product. First is that the inner cooking pan is not easy to get in/out of the rice cooker. The lid does not open far enough to easily lift it out, the inner lid gasket has to be removed to keep from bumping. Why? Second (but most annoying part to me) is that I cannot store the measuring cup inside the unit. I don’t understand why the cup was not made shorter and wider for internal storage when not in use. Sound picky – yep. But again, for the price one pays, I feel that’s not too much to ask. Maybe something to look into for the next design.

Great rice at a premium price.

The zojurishi makes some good rice at a premium price. It also has features to cook different types of rice and even things like porridge and cheese cake which is awesome. It even has a steamer for foods like vegetables but I have yet to use that feature since I usually use my stove top.The retractable cable is an awesome feature. Makes putting it away easy and neat. The start and finish melodies are a cute touch too.All in all, great rice cooker. I think it is a little on the pricey side for what it does. But it is a great brand and has a great reputation and I’m expecting many good years out of it.

    My little singing sous chef

A delight to have in the kitchen. Not sure what brings me more joy; every grain of rice being cooked to perfection, or how it sings to me. I also appreciate how all of the tones & beeps are in key with the song, a subtle detail but one that highlights how much thought was put into the design.I consider this as integral a part of my kitchen as my enameled Dutch oven or my clad cooking pots.

My husband and I previously owned a rice cooker we had owned for years (I can’t remember the brand). I decided to upgrade to this machine since I wanted to get it as a gift for my husband and it was on sale at the time. This product cooks rice amazing! We normally cook long grain white rice so I was used to using the same amount of water as rice in our old cooker. The other one took maybe 30 minutes at the most to cook the rice but even if I checked on it often and stirred the rice, it would stick to the bottom of the bowl. With this machine, it takes 65 minutes to cook long grain white rice (I make a big batch of it) and it turns out perfect every single time, even when I was accidentally using the wrong amount of water (for 4 cups of rice, it takes 5 cups of water). The little provided measuring cup is perfect for this (for the measuring lines in the bowl, the water is at the 4 cup line). I like that this machine plays a tune when it is finished cooking (so I know exactly when it’s done). The machine keeps the rice hot for a long time after it is turned off so it’s perfect if you don’t want to eat it right away. It also comes with a handy spatula for stirring the rice and serving it. I am very happy that I purchased this and would definitely purchase another one in the future. This is also incredibly easy to clean. I haven’t used the machine to cook anything except rice but I like that it comes with a steamer for veggies. My only downside is the book the machine came with isn’t clear on the amount of water to use for rice (which is why I was using the wrong amount) but their website is very clear on how much to use with the kind of rice. Also, I had assumed long grain white rice was to be cooked on the white rice setting but it is actually supposed to be on the Mixed Rice setting. Despite using the wrong amount of water and the wrong setting, this machine has smart technology to still cook it properly. The rice turned out great but turns out amazing when you use the correct setting and water amount.

    Perfect for rice snobs

We’ve had our rice cooker for two years and it’s still fabulous! This is so minor, but I love that when you turn it off or unplug it, it has a few minutes of memory and will keep your time setting in place.I love my zojirushi, and am a loyal brand customer now I guess, haha. I haven’t used even half the settings, there’s so many! It makes cute little chimes when you start it and when the rice is ready (thanks Japan) and even on the quick setting, my rice is chewy and perfect. We usually use the “umami” setting for the best result though. If you struggle with a coating of starch every time you cook, DON’T FORGET TO RINSE YOUR RICE! You can’t expect the rice cooker to perform well if you don’t treat your rice well too!Oh, and don’t forget to follow instructions and wash the detachable prices after every use, unless you like dried gunk and mold with your meal. 🤢Pro-tip: many people don’t notice that there’s a little slot for your rice paddle on the right side of it, so you don’t have to lay it on the counter. Now you know! 😉

    Best rice cooker ever!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this rice cooker. I’ve always wanted to try one. I’ve had the same Tiger brand rice cooker for the past 20 years and I always thought the 10 cup capacity was too big for me and my husband. This one is the perfect size. It has enough capacity that I can cook enough to serve dinner for friends and make smaller quantities just for us. I love that it’s more squat than it is tall and it fits in my cabinet very well. It’s super easy to use and clean up. I used it for the first time today and the rice comes out perfect! I’m looking forward to using this rice cooker for many years to come!

    The perfect rice cooker

This cooks rice perfectly every time and also does an excellent job of keeping the rice warm without browning, a problem I have had with pervious cookers. It’s a great design, very easy to clean and no condensation cup to empty which is found on many rice cookers.

Good product which meets my expectation

I received Zojirushi NS-TSC10 rice cooker a week ago. This is my first rice cooker. So far I have used it twice: cooked white rice and baked a cheese cake. The rice does not squash together as regular pot would do. The texture is a slightly different between rice cooker and regular pot. I like the taste better from this rice cooker.About cheese cake, the cake diameter is about 6 to 7 inches. It may be suitable for visiting friend or small group. it may not be big enough for multi family party. The only trivial con about this product: I wish the lid could be opened a little more. Every time I took the container out or put it back in, it would hit the lid. It is just a little touch. It will not cause any issue or damage, just a little annoying.

    Non-Stick Rice

This cooks the best rice I have ever had. I gave it to my wife as a Holiday gift. She tells her friends she has the Rolls Royce of rice cookers. Every meal is great every time when the rice is cooked right, and this does it all on its own, no muss, no fuss!

Best rice cooker I have ever owned!

This rice cooker makes perfect rice every single time. I have been using a donabe but every now and then I would cook the rice too long and end up with mushy rice. Mushy rice never happens anymore. So happy with this purchase.

Just buy it, it’s the best

I’m a pretty regular white rice eater and this is the best rice cooker I have ever used. For awhile I was using an instant pot so coming from that, this is like a gift hand given from god himself. But ya, I have had this thing running on extended warm for over 2 days and it was still very good. They don’t recommend doing that but I did and it was good. If you are looking at these reviews to decide if you want to buy this product or not, just do it. You won’t regret it

Rice cooker Cake Steamer Vegetable Cooker

This model of rice cooker has an internal steaming tray and settings to let you steam veg (on the rice setting) cook various types of rice, porridge and has a cake setting; you steam sponge cake or Japanese style cheese cakes in the bottom of the rice cooker bowl. This is a fuzzy logic model, meaning the temp control is getting to “more or less” as the water is absorbed and the temperature of the bowl rises. Some newer models of the Zojirushi have setting for quinoa, and softer rice and sushi rice but this model has setting for:White/Sushi RiceBrownMixed (rice plus mushrooms, for example)PorridgeSweetCakeThe steamer basket can cook a maximum of one rice measure (“cup”) of rice with veg or seafood or small chicken bits at the same time. The quinoa is cooked on the “white” setting. If you want softer rice, calculating your desired time, using the timer will get you softer rice. You can also cook ahead (set time to start.)The cooker comes with the tray, the inner bowl (no handles like some other models, though) a scoop and holder for the side and the cup. A big paper manual that also can be downloaded as a PDF.The outside is steel with a anodized bronze color. Very attractive.I have a neuro-fuzzy model NS-ZCC10/18 which looks like an Imperial Stormtrooper Helmet and makes, I think, out of the box slightly better rice. You can cook cake etc in it with playing with setting but there is no basket. It’s made in Japan. This model has more features, but you may have to tweak it to get better rice (the other model has a softer setting, this does not) and is “Hecho en China” Oddly, the NS-ZCC10/18 bowl seems to lose its coating over time EVEN IF you only use the Rice Paddle (only use the rice paddle !) there seems to be no replacement from Zojirushi though I’ve found parts on the auction site. I got a bottom part in fact for the old one because one of my dogs absolutely loves rice and pulled it off the counter to see if she could fix herself a snack. Cracked it and dislodged the circuit boards. I repaired it but now the bowl is wearing thin.Summary: A good model with many many features. If all you are making is rice, you may want the lower end, thermal models that have a simple on-off thermostat control and no settings. If you need more than the “five and a half cup” (makes 10 cups cooked rice) there are 10 cup measure models and larger.

Works great but I wanted to make risotto and all the Zojirushi recipes call for using porridge setting and this model doesn’t have one. If I get in a mood to try to find a work around I’ll update this if it works out and let you know what I did.

Disillusioned by Hype and Long Cooking Times.

I’ve always been a fan of simple, affordable solutions in the kitchen. My trusty $30 rice cooker served me well for years, but lured by the promise of convenience and perfection, I succumbed to Black Friday hype and invested in this higher-end model. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations.Right off the bat, the cooking time for brown rice surprised me. At 110 minutes, it felt excessive compared to my old cooker. While this extended cook time inadvertently aided my Hainanese chicken poaching process, it didn’t align with my usual cooking style. This rice cooker is essentially a “set it and forget it” appliance, which may appeal to some. However, I’m accustomed to the hands-on approach of stovetop cooking or my previous rice cooker. Additionally, cooking for one often means preparing only a single cup of rice, making the keep-warm function and large capacity of this model unnecessary for my needs. While the cooked rice was indeed soft and fluffy, a texture most would appreciate, it wasn’t ideal for my preferred fried rice recipe. The resulting texture was mushy and lacked the desired bite.Overall, I’m not impressed with this rice cooker. The high price tag and lengthy cooking times make it a poor fit for my cooking style and preferences. For those on a budget or who prefer a quicker, more hands-on approach, I firmly believe you can achieve equally delicious rice with a simpler and more affordable model. Don’t be swayed by the hype; consider your individual needs and cooking habits before making an investment like this.

    Fantastic

I’m not going to lie, I was kind of upset with my significant other when this was purchased due to the high price point. After having and using it a couple weeks though, it’s become one of my favorite and on of our most used appliances. It’s so easy to use, just measure and dump, hit a few buttons and walk away as it plays you a nice little tune. It holds really well without overcooking which is fantastic because I tend to misjudge how long something’s goin to take to make. It’s also self adjusting so you don’t have to worry about it at all during the cooking process. Like an instant pot it automatically goes to keep warm mode until physically shut if off after completing the cooking. One thing to note. It is not on any kind of timer and therefore absolutely will keep going and going if you forget to shut it off. It doesn’t take up much space and overall is a great addition to any rice lovers kitchen!

    Makes perfect rice every time

This rice cooker was a huge upgrade over my cheap $20 one. I’ve eaten rice my entire life and I can’t believe I didn’t buy one of these a long time ago. It does take a while to cook (1 hour), but anyone that cooks rice knows you need to let the rice sit in the water at least 10 to 15 minutes before cooking. This will keep your rice hot all day and not make it mushy. I highly recommend, just make sure you plan for that hour cooking time.

    Makes the best rice.

We’ve been using the same inexpensive rice cooker for 10 years and it was time for a replacement. This was on sale so we decided to splurge and we’re both very happy we did. It’s very simple to use. We’ve cooked short grain white, jasmine, and brown rice so far and all have had perfect texture. It’s very easy to clean and store. The handle for transport and retractable cord are very nice design bonuses.

    Amazing

Once you own a rice cooker then you will never go back. It’s even better when you can cook rice and steam dumplings or vegetables too. I bought this one for a gift, but I’ve owned mine for around 5 years and it reminds amazing

    AWESOME!

This is the best rice cooker of the two I have owned. I previously owned a Sanyo rice cooker that lasted for more than 20 years. The battery soldered into the circuit board (Why? Whyyyyyyyy?) gave out several years back and couldn’t be replaced. Finally, the coating on the inner bowl began to peel away from the container and was getting into the cooked rice, so I needed a replacement. Unable to find another Sanyo, I did my research and found the Zojirushi. It’s perfect. The rice from the Sanyo was always good, but the Zojirushi outperforms the Sanyo in taste, quality and fluffiness of the rice. With the Sanyo, any brown rice cooked was okay, but just flat. It never seemed to get it right. The Zojirushi shines with brown, white and Basmati rice. Haven’t tried the steaming function or other functions yet, but I can’t wait!I’ll update this review with pictures of my next batch of rice.Best rice cooker, EVER!

Works great. But wish I bought the smaller version

This rice cooker does a great job. All types of rice cook perfectly. I cook for a family of 5 and just barely fill this version above its minimum settings. I recommend this rice cooker in their smaller size for smaller families.

The Zojirushi Rice Cooker – My Kitchen’s New MVP!

I can’t believe I’m writing a review for a rice cooker, but the Zojirushi has truly earned its place as an essential kitchen appliance in my home.Let me start by saying that I’m not a professional chef; I’m just a regular person who enjoys good food. And this rice cooker has made my life so much easier.First off, it’s incredibly easy to use. You simply measure your rice and water, press a button, and voila – perfectly cooked rice every single time. No more guesswork, no more burnt rice on the bottom of the pot, and no more hovering over the stove. But it’s not just for rice! This magical machine has settings for different types of rice (white, brown, sushi, etc.), porridge, and even a cake setting! Yep, you read that right – you can bake a cake in this thing, and it turns out moist and delicious. The “keep warm” feature is a game-changer too. It keeps your rice at the perfect temperature for hours, so you can prepare the rest of your meal without worrying about your rice getting cold and clumpy.Cleaning is a breeze, too, thanks to the nonstick inner pot and detachable parts that are dishwasher-safe.Now, let’s talk about the quality. Zojirushi is a name you can trust. This rice cooker feels solid and well-built. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now, and it still works like a charm. It’s an investment that pays off in the long run.Sure, it’s a bit more expensive than your average rice cooker, but the quality and convenience are worth every penny. If you’re serious about your rice or just want to simplify your cooking routine, the Zojirushi rice cooker is a must-have.In summary, I never thought I’d be gushing over a kitchen appliance, but the Zojirushi rice cooker has earned its place as the MVP of my kitchen. If you love perfectly cooked rice and want a versatile, reliable, and easy-to-use appliance, don’t hesitate to get one. You won’t regret it!

The last rice cooker you’ll ever buy, probably

Purchased in June 2016, used at least weekly since then (often 3-5 times a week)Before I say anything else, a note about cooking rice – RINSE YOUR RICE, PEOPLE. IT’S IN THE DIRECTIONS AND IT’S CRUCIAL FOR GOOD RICE.Fit & Finish:- Despite the shell being mostly plastic, this rice cooker feels a bit luxe and everything is nice and tight. The super shiny plastic is extremely easy to wipe down whenever it gets dirty.- The retractable power cord is an amazing feature, such a creature comfort. It works just like it did when we got it, albeit slightly slower now. I’ve never had a problem with getting it to go in the direction I needed.- The lid and hinge mech is solid and easy to use, just one big button to release. An interesting thing to note is the hinge only opens just beyond far enough for the rice pan to be insertable into the machine, so if it didn’t pop up all the way and your hands are full, you’ll need to use an elbow to nudge it the rest of the way open. My solution is to just pop it open and make sure it’s fully open before I start doing anything else.- The handle is light and plastic but has not cracked at any point, not even the joints. This was something I was worried about since the unit feels like it could be an issue, but I kinda swing this thing around when moving it in/out of my pantry, and it’s still totally solid.Product in use:- The user interface (buttons and screen) is intuitive, easy to use, and there are no seams between the buttons for any water ingress. The buttons on my unit haven’t even started to wear down after 7 years.- As far as functions go, I only really ever use the White or Quick rice features – I don’t eat brown rice at home, and haven’t felt the need to use any of the other ones. I’ve also never used the timer feature as I am not the best planner. But this thing sure does make the most perfectly cooked rice every single time. It’s honestly kind of rough having such high quality, easy to cook, white rice at home, and then go out to eat and the rice you’re eating is just mushy and overcooked or gummy. This thing spoils you.— A note about Quick Rice – I have found that the quicker cook time /can/ lead to slightly tackier/gummier rice if you open the lid as soon as the cycle ends. I would give it a few extra minutes to steam out before opening and the rice will be almost as perfect as the regular cycle.- Volume of rice cooked – I don’t think I have ever maxed this thing out, but I have gotten close. What is MORE impressive, is that I can cook 1 single ‘cup’** (**OF THE CUP THEY GIVE YOU TO MEASURE THAT CORRESPONDS TO THE LINES IN THE RICE PAN, WHICH IS ACTUALLY 3/4 CUP) of rice and it comes out just as perfect as if I cooked rice for 6 people. This amount of rice has never been short of enough for one meal for two adults. On quick rice, this amount cooks in like…15 minutes? And on White it’ll start at 50, but will actually skip a few and be done in 25min or so.Summary:I thought for sure that $130 (at my time of purchase) was a bit overkill for a rice cooker, but I will 1000% buy another one of these whenever my current unit dies, if that ever happens. I thought 7 years was a good run (< $20/year for perfect rice at home?!) so any more time after this is just a big bonus.10/10, and 10/10 with rice. 37 people found this helpful

Didn’t know I needed this but I did

I’ve been cooking rice and various grains in a pot on the stove forever. Recently I had several surprisingly bad attempts at cooking white rice — for the life of me I don’t know what I did wrong. I ended up looking up pressure cookers even though I didn’t want one, and eventually stumbled into the world of rice cookers. I didn’t want one of those either. I would rather have less specialty appliances than more. But as I read and learned the history of rice cookers (GOOD ones, just not every 20 dollar attempt at one) I understood why people got them. Then I read about various models, what they did well, how they worked, and decided on this one. Then I tried to change my mind because it’s not cheap. Then I figured if I’m getting one, I need one we’ll actually use. There was a Warehouse deal on one; maybe like 35 percent off. It said it was in very good condition, so I took a gamble knowing I could return it. When it arrived it looked brand new; only it wasn’t in the original box. Still packed tightly with all the parts in a regular Amazon box. It turned on, sounded fine. The appliance itself is so cute, and so easy to move around, and has a retractable plug so it’s super tidy. I just love it.I immediately put in a cup of the same white rice I messed up twice recently, rinsed it 3 times, filled it with water to the white rice 1 cup water line, and pressed Start. It came out perfectly. Better than I’ve ever made it on my own. It’s been maybe 3 weeks now. I’ve had whatever white rice I first put in it, white basmati rice, jasmine rice and now brown basmati rice, even though I’ve never liked brown rice much. Now I’ve had brown rice at least 10 times, and I seriously love it. I made barley in it – filled to the brown rice water line – and that turned out great. Since it apparently is similar water-wise to brown rice, once it was done I put some cooked brown rice back in it, and left it on the warm setting mixed with the barley. It stayed perfectly cooked and warm til it was eaten a day or two later. I even actually made Rice a Roni Mexican Rice in it once – even melting butter in it first, and THAT turned out fine. If I make Rice a Roni again I think I’ll first sautée the rice in a pan with butter, because I think it should’ve been a little more al dente, but it was really fine.Regarding warming, it’s crazy how good the rice tastes even 2-3 days after it first cooked. It doesn’t use much electricity for this feature (I believe I read approx the amount of a 35W lightbulb, which means it’s quite low). The cooker is quiet, and when just in warm mode is not too hot to touch. When it’s cooking the rice, it’s also fine to touch anywhere except near the steam vent.It cleans very easily. It’s not very large, maybe a little smaller than the footprint of a standard coffee maker, but half the height. Because of how cute it is and the carry handle I will be bringing this to family functions in the future where rice is needed. Literally one of the best purchases I’ve ever made.My only “complaint”, but with a fix!The cooker comes with a sturdy steam basket, a very useful rice paddle for fluffing / serving (there’s an attachment that’ll hold the paddle when cooking rice, and a measuring cup. But the little rice cup and paddle don’t fit inside the cooker, with or without the steam basket. I know me, and I know I will lose these if I can’t tuck them inside. Well:1. The included “cup” is actually 3/4 of a regular US measuring cup, or 6 ounces. I had several sets of measuring cups here, and one fit snugly inside, even with the steam basket inside. (The measuring cup height is about 1-5/8 inches or 4.2 cm tall and length is about 6-3/4 inches or 17.5 cm long). I think it’s Oxo brand.2. The paddle issue was trickier. First I tried to find a tiny bamboo spoon to use, but rice really stuck to it. So I actually used a small saw and sawed off the end of the plastic white paddle. (I sanded the rough edges a bit with sandpaper but you could get by without doing that). Now the paddle is about 6-3/4 inches or 17.5 cm and the paddle, my measuring cup, and the included steam basket all fit inside. The cut paddle still sits comfortably in the little holder when I cook rice.Has my review been helpful to you? If so, would you consider hitting the “helpful” button below? I’d greatly appreciate it. Thank you!

    The Best Rice Cooker Ever!

I have been using this Zojirushi rice cooker for years and I can honestly say that it is the best rice cooker I have ever owned. It is easy to use, easy to clean, and makes perfect rice every time. It has a lot of features that make it stand out from other rice cookers, such as:Micro computerized fuzzy logic technology: This means that the rice cooker can adjust the cooking time and temperature according to the type and amount of rice you are cooking. It also has different settings for white rice, brown rice, sushi rice, porridge, cake, and more. You can even customize your own settings and save them for later use.Automatic keep warm, extended keep warm and reheating cycle: This means that the rice cooker can keep your rice warm and fresh for up to 12 hours after cooking. You can also reheat your rice without drying it out or burning it. This is great for busy days when you don’t have time to cook or eat right away.Easy to clean clear coated stainless steel exterior: This means that the rice cooker has a sleek and modern design that looks great in any kitchen. The exterior is also easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth. The inner pot, lid, and steam vent are all removable and dishwasher safe.Interchangeable melody and beep signal: This means that the rice cooker can play a melody or a beep when the rice is done. You can choose from four different melodies or turn the sound off completely. I personally like the “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” melody because it makes me happy every time I hear it.Built in retractable power cord: This means that the rice cooker has a power cord that can be retracted into the base when not in use. This makes it easy to store and prevents the cord from getting tangled or damaged.Doubles as a steamer with its versatile Steam menu setting: This means that the rice cooker can also be used as a steamer for vegetables, fish, meat, dumplings, and more. It comes with a steaming basket that fits inside the inner pot. You can use the Steam menu to set the steaming time or use the timer function to set your own time.I love this rice cooker because it makes cooking rice so easy and convenient. I don’t have to worry about measuring water, setting timers, or checking the stove. I just put the rice and water in the pot, press a button, and wait for the melody to play. The rice comes out fluffy, moist, and delicious every time. I also like that I can use it to steam other foods and make cakes and porridge. It is a versatile and multifunctional appliance that saves me time and space in the kitchen. If you are looking for a high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly rice cooker, I highly recommend the Zojirushi NS-TSC10 5-1/2-Cup (Uncooked) Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer, 1.0-Liter, Stainless Brown. It is worth every penny and you will not regret buying it. It is the best rice cooker ever!

    Quintessential Affordable Rice Cooker

It’s Japanese. Their home appliances are second to none, ESPECIALLY when it comes to rice cookers. This one is affordable, but high quality and versatile. Easy to clean, various useful presets, a good product manual. There are also included recipes for other things you can make in your rice cooker, like cakes and breads. Many more can be found on the internet. After your rice is done, it has a smart warming mode that keeps it warm and fresh all day. It’s not uncommon for Asian families to make a big rice batch for the whole day, and eat from it multiple times. The retracting power cord and carrying handle make this a super friendly appliance. Easy to put away when you are done, or I guess you could also make your rice, then unplug and carry it somewhere else and it will hold its heat for a while. If you have not had a rice cooker and you get this, you will soon understand why the little tune that plays when your rice is done is pleasantly ingrained in the minds of many Japanese adults.

Restaurant quality rice with near-zero effort

I’m extremely happy with this rice cooker, and I was very surprised by the difference in quality of the rice. It handily beats both cooking it on the stove top, and cooking it in my Instant Pot. It is not without fault, but I can live with the minor flaws given how good the resulting rice is.For reference, I made rice using standard tap water and Tamanishiki premium short grain white rice. I rinsed and drained the rice six times before cooking, and I am cooking at high altitude (~5,500 feet).Pros:–Rice made in this cooker comes out perfectly cooked every time. It is fluffy and sticky, comes out of the cooker easily, and is great for eating with chopsticks. It is just like high quality rice served at restaurants. When using quality short grain rice, it produces rice that is exactly like what I’ve had in Japan.–The non-stick inner pot is easy to remove and clean. Unlike cooking in the stove-top or in my Instant Pot, I don’t need to soak the cooking vessel before cleaning, as there’s no rice and very little film left after cooking.–The cooker comes with an internal reel that winds up the power cord for easy storage. I missed this in the product description, so it was a very nice surprise.–The inner pot is marked with water levels for various amounts of uncooked rice. This is surprisingly handy.–The clock is battery powered, so it doesn’t lose the time when unplugged. This is a really nice little touch.–Operation of the device is dead simple.–The cooker can hold prepared rice for later use for a surprisingly long time. I’ve tested it as far as 12 hours after preparation, and it was just as good as it was freshly made, complete with a little plume of steam when opened.Cons:–The cooker cannot hold the included scoop, paddle, and steamer basket inside itself all at the same time for storage. It can, however, hold the scoop and the paddle if you store the steamer basket separately. This is a big benefit to the Instant Pot, which can hold its power cord, trivets, ladle, and rice paddle inside itself when stored. (Note that I have the 5.5-cup model. The larger version may be able to do this.)–The manual says that the cooker can make batches as small as 0.5 cups rice, but the internal pot is only marked for water levels for as low as 1.0 cup uncooked rice. If you want to make a small batch, you must do the water measurement yourself (the amounts are given in a provided manual insert). This could have been avoided with extra lines inside the pot, which would have been so easy to add.–When this cooker refers to a “cup” of rice, it means the included scoop, not a standard US cup. This refers to a Japanese standard for a serving of uncooked rice (about 2/3rds US standard cup). This isn’t that much of a drawback, but it is important to keep in mind. Don’t lose that scoop!–The cooking cycle takes about an hour, four times longer than standard rice cooking. This is because the cooking cycle incorporates soaking and steaming time, though, so it is worth it.–The manual says that it is designed for medium and short-grain rice, but does include substitute water measurements for long-grain. Keep in mind that if you want to cook long-grain, you can’t use the marks inside the cooking vessel to measure the water. Conclusion:If you’re considering this device and reading reviews, then you’re probably like me in that you’re wondering if the results are really worth the hype. I think they absolutely are. Now that I have this cooker, there’s no reason at all for me to cook rice any other way. The results simply aren’t in the same league as stove-top or Instant Pot rice cooking. Only you can decide if that’s worth the price of admission, but I can recommend the device wholeheartedly. My only points of dissatisfaction with this device are minor quibbles and nitpicks. It does its job supremely well, and I’m completely satisfied with my purchase.Updates:2020-01-20 – I’ve revisited this review to correct an error I made about accessory storage in the original version. I incorrectly stated that the scoop and paddle couldn’t be stored inside the cooker, even with the steamer basket removed. That was incorrect. In fact, the scoop and paddle can be stored inside with the basket removed, but all three cannot be stored inside at the same time. Since writing this review, this cooker has become one of my favorite appliances. The cons I listed in my review all feel like extremely minor quibbles. now. I wanted to change my score to five stars, since I love this thing so dang much, but I think it is still appropriate to keep it at four for the drawbacks, minor as they are. This cooker is on my short list of appliances that I would replace immediately should they fail.

    Bento dad highly recommends.

Me: A foodie Dad in the USA who knows how to hand-cook long-grain, sushi, basmati, jasmine, and brown rice so they’re just right. I rise early every morning to hand-make lunches for my four children and my wife because I’m socially awkward and emotionally closed off, and this is one way that I show my family that I love them. I’m a middle-class working guy, without tons of money, so I don’t buy $100+ kitchen appliances on a whim. I mean, I bought my wife a Kitchen-Aid mixer eight years ago because she wanted it, but I winced at the price. I’ve owned this product for five months, and used it 4+ times a week during that period. You: Somebody that identifies with me and cooks rice or other steamed grains on a daily basis. My Review: If you’re pressed for time and you cook a lot of rice or other boiled/steamed grains, BUY THIS RICE COOKER. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. It’s a triumph of convenience engineering, and obviously a multi-year investment. I’ve owned a couple $20 rice cookers, which I used when I didn’t have enough time to spare to pay attention to heat-on, heat-off cycles when I was making a meal. Now, I just select the type of grain from a super-intuitive menu, select the time I want it ready, and push a button. The rice is always perfect when the beeper goes off, and is still perfect the next day.Geek details: The AC power cord is flexible and retractable. The clock doesn’t need to be reset if the cooker is unplugged for 2 days at a time… handy because the cooker doubles as an insulated container (like a crock pot) from which to serve hot rice several hours later. The dual mode rice warmer + the superb design of the cooking chamber means that every time you cook rice, you re-sterilize the sealed cooking chamber and keep it sterile so that rice can easily be held (hot and safe!) for a second day. The swing-up handle makes this a cinch to carry, and it’s well-balanced. The non-stick bowl is super-heavy-duty aluminum and I expect it to last for years, especially since I baby it… I love this appliance like a Wall Street CEO loves his sports car. Cleanup is easy (never more than 2 minutes, usually less than 1 with hot tap water and a splash of dish soap). The detachable pot lid is easier to remove and clean than I expected.. I include detaching, washing, and replacing it in 1-2 minute cleanup time.Disclaimer: This is for the 5.5 cup cooker, although I assume that the 3 cup cooker is similar. I’ve never bought a more expensive model to compare… my prior experience is with pot-cooking rice or using a $20-$30 model when I didn’t have time to baby the rice.Extras: Works great for wild rice and quinoa. Medium and short-grain rice are perfectly cooked so long as you rinse them properly before putting them in the cooker… if I fill and set the timer at bedtime, I can season and cool the rice, cut nori, crab, and avocado, and make California rolls within 12 minutes from stepping into the kitchen.Update: March of 2018:No change in my high recommendation. I have used this rice-cooker weekly for more than five years and it is still an A+ purchase. No problems, no malfunctions… even with heavy use. Also I fixed my original misspelling of avocado. Sorry about that.

    Rice to the occasion

I had never used an electric rice cooker prior to purchasing the Zojirushi. This little gem makes the task sooo easy! Just select the rice type using the simple intuitive menu, place everything inside, close the lid, press START, and walk away- no hovering or stirring required. When the chime chimes, voilà! Perfectly cooked rice. I appreciate this cooker’s smart blend of style and function. When I was shopping and trying to decide between a 3, 5.5, or 10 cup cooker for our family of three, I didn’t have much perspective on the size of these appliances. So, I hope you find the photos in my review helpful. I purchased the 5 5 cup model, and it’s just right for us. The only reason I’ve deducted a star is that despite smart thoughtful design in providing a retractable power cord, a convenient carrying handle, and useful markings on individual components; I feel the maker missed an opportunity to show similar forethought and ease of function on the steamer basket in terms of its removal after the cook cycle. The basket can be difficult to remove without the threat of burning oneself from the extremely hot steam because it nests so snuggly inside the the rim of the rice pan. It has recessed handles that can be difficult to get hold of. Could they have provided a swing handle similar to the one they used on the outer shell? These are smart builders.; of course they can come up with something safer and more functional. That being said, I do think this rice cooker is a fantastic tool. I enjoy using it. And I highly recommend it.

    11 years, still going strong

I just realized I’ve been using this thing for 11 years now. Mainly, I’ve just used it for white and brown rice and sometimes a bowl of steel cut oatmeal which I set up overnight and have it cook on a timer. The only thing that’s happened in all of this time is that somewhere along the line, the little battery died that keeps the clock current. It’s only an issue if you want to set it to run on a timer. Other than that, no big notes, this is a strong performer and in my experience very durable. The number one thing I would recommend: really baby the inner pot. Don’t use anything abrasive on it and it will stay nonstick for many years.
