Nicely configured carry-on, slightly over the cut-off height for WestJet

This Swissgear Altitude carry-on is a well-made soft-shell spinner bag. The wheels spin effortlessly and the telescopic handle latches into two extended positions. The carry-on falls under Air Canada’s guidelines, but is slightly taller than WestJet’s allowance.With the bag empty, I measure 8.25” x 14.5” x 21.4” high (includes wheels and hard plastic telescoping handle but excludes soft handle). As of January 9th 2024, Air Canada limits carry-on to 9” x 15.5” x 21.5”; WestJet allows 9” x 15” x 21”. I suspect this is close enough to not be given issues, but technically over-sized for WestJet.The layout of this bag is well thought-out and construction feels solid. Zippers mostly work well but can bind a little (there seems to be a crease close to the lower zipper of the main compartment that causes this on my bag).On the exterior are two pockets – one measures 15” high (though the zippered access only 10.5” high) x 13.5” wide (slightly tapers down near the top). The upper pocket measures 6.5” deep x 13.5” wide.The inside of the ‘door’ has a large mesh pocket measuring 15.5” high x 13.5” wide. The usable portion of the primary luggage compartment measures 17” high x 15.5” wide x 7.5” deep (slightly less depth near the center where the handle is stowed).The telescoping handle is plastic but feels secure and exhibits minimal play. It can lock in place such that the top of the handle is at either 38.75” or 42.5” above the ground. The lower setting is comfortable for me (6’1”) when gliding the bag along on all four wheels; the upper setting is ideal if the bag is tipped and being pulled on two wheels.The TSA lock is easy to use, and the zippers on the primary compartment contain a hasp so you can use a conventional padlock if you prefer.The case feels light, and weighs 6.1 lbs. according to my bathroom scale.One complaint that I have with spinner luggage in general (and not this particular luggage) is the amount of space wasted as a result of the spinner wheels being fully below the suitcase (my existing 2-wheel carry-on is the same overall height but has almost 3” more usable height in the main compartment). I’ve included a couple photos of the luggage side-by-side for reference.Overall, I really like this bag and would recommend it if you are looking for a spinner-type carry-on. If space is important to you, consider a two-wheel model to gain extra usable storage space.

Perfect for long trips
As someone who often takes long-haul flights, I am always looking for durable and sturdy check-in bags. When I came across SWISSGEAR Altitude lightweight 28″ checked luggage, I decided to test it out as the bag was from a well-established brand and I have to say, it has exceeded my expectations in every way. First and foremost, this bag is comparatively light but solid. Despite its lightweight, it is constructed from high-quality materials that can withstand the wear and tear of frequent travel. The luggage’s spacious design is another standout feature. The interior of the luggage is well-designed, with large compartments with room to keep everything organized and easily accessible. The 28″ size is perfect for longer trips, and I was able to fit all my clothes, shoes, and other essentials inside without worrying about running out of space. A separate zippered mesh compartment makes it easy to separate dirty laundry from clean clothes. There are also a couple of large zippered compartments in the front of the bag for storing frequently used items. Perfect for travel, spacious and good maneuverability
First impression:I recently got the durable and lightweight 28″ checked luggage, and plan to use it for my future travels. For some reason it looks perfect for international travel and I will be taking it with me for sure.Material quality and design:The surface looks like it is made of lightweight polyester, this suitcase is a must-have for travelers who value both durability and ease of use. The design is really good, ensuring it can endure tough handling without adding unnecessary weight to your luggage.Maneuverability:The inclusion of 8 wheels offers an exceptional 360-degree maneuverability, making navigating through bustling spaces a breeze. I tested this in a public space like a shopping mall since my travel will take some more time and I won’t be able to test it in an airport till then. But the shopping mall is somewhat similar to an airport. I stuffed the luggage with many random clothes etc. But it is very easy to move about and does not feel any kind of stiffness or difficulty in maneuverability.Interior compartment:What truly sets this luggage apart is its expandable interior compartment, which makes organization easy to do. Nice lightweight carry-on, but not 19”
This is a very nice compact carry-on, good materials and build quality. Very lightweight and super maneuverable with the spinner wheels. Great to have an integrated lock.I didn’t like that they advertise it as 19” when this is the measurement of only the storage compartment and doesn’t include the wheels, which are always included in airline carry-on specifications. The total height ( including wheels) is 21.5” which is ok for many North American Airlines but not for a number of European airlines.Also to consider, for 2-wheel carry-ons the storage compartment goes lower to the ground which gives you more volume. With the 4 spinner wheels like this one the trade-off is that you have a smaller area to store your things.Overall it’s a very nice, well made bag but taller than advertised.

It was $171.85 when the order was placed, but when it arrived the price had dropped to $152.99 (review date/time). A bit pricey for similar offerings by other manufacturers.It appears to be well made with premium materials. Sturdy and lightweight (overall 4.06kg) polyester construction with 4 double wheels (making it 8).The numerical lock is 3 digits – with TSA access.The aluminum push-button locking telescopic handle feels strong, and is easy to operate.Overall dimension including wheels and handle is 63.25 linear inches, and the actual case dimension is 58.75 linear inches – making it just the right size for a standard (Max allowed) check-in baggage dimension in most airlines.This case from SWISSGEAR appears to withstand the rigors of airline baggage handling for a long time.

Following a recent trip, it became abundantly clear that my husband needed a designated carry-on for upcoming travels, and this SWISSGEAR bag, featuring a straightforward classic design, proved to be an ideal fit.Sporting a rainproof exterior, it incorporates several beneficial features, including a smooth telescopic handle and 360° rotation wheels, facilitating seamless movement. Additionally, the bag is equipped with two shallow exterior pockets and one mesh inner pocket. Notably, the nonlockable exterior pockets present both an advantage and a potential drawback. While some may favor the security of internal compartments, the outer pockets provide a convenient space for storing readily accessible items like liquid toiletries, seasonal accessories, or boarding passes. The inner compartment is suitably spacious, with a strap to compress clothing, and is secured with an easily operated TSA zipper lock.The carry-on’s dimensions are 8.5 inches by 15 inches by 21.3 inches, making it compliant as a carry-on for most airlines. Swissgear Altitude Carry On

No complaints here! I plan on flying for the first time this year and want to use just a carry on and personal item only, no checking luggage.It rolls in every direction super easily on floor and carpet, the handle extends/locks/retracts smoothly and without much effort or fight. Sturdy zippers, seams, and TSA lock.I measured myself to be sure it meets Canadian carry on requirements of 21.5 x 15.5 x 9 and it does. These measurements also include the handle, wheels, filling the front pockets and seems like maybe a smidge more for wiggle room but that could also be my tape measurer.Photos to give you an idea of what it would hold. The compression packing cube is size medium and takes up half of the carry on with room for a second and space on top for more items. And just so you know, that one compression cube contains 7 XL yoga pants/leggings for reference.I’m pleased with this.

One of the best I have ever owned
I have used SwissGear bags and backpacks for a lot of years and I have never been let down.This bag is no exception and I think it’s absolutely amazing.The first thing is the solid and clean construction with great feling ripstop.The zippers are all smooth and easily move with a solid and sturdy feel.The included TSA lock is easy to set and once engaged will keep your bag closed through fairly vigorous handling.The bottom wheels are smooth and roll very easily while still being very solid and robust support while rolling.The capacity of this bag is enough to allow a full week of clothes and various suplies and will even expand a bit to allow fuller packing without a big problem.The handle slides in and out firmly and securely with a great feel with no wobbly movement.Lightweight, solid and study with a great look and excellent capacity and internal tie downs you simply cannot go wrong with this bag and it will serve you for many years reliably like these products are known for.You need this and I recommend it above almost any other without hesitation.

Great suitcase for the price !
Swissgear is an established brand that creates luggages. This one here is no exception. I travel a lot and had 4 suitcases in the past 6 or 7 years. For me a big compartment, lightweight and durability are key in a luggage. I had a Samsonite, two American Tourister and a Remowa previously.It’s my first Swissgear.The luggage has only one compartment which is not the greatest, however the compartment is big and fits a ton of clothes, shoes and everything else needed. Frankly, I prefer the shell suitcases with two compartments. This is my personal preference when I travel however I also had suitcases like this Swissgear with only one big compartment.The wheels seem durable and should last for a while if handled properly. The 8 wheels are good in case one pair breaks and the suitcase will still be rollable.The TSA lock on the side is really nice.The luggage seems durable overall and is expandable by about 1-2 inches. The zipper are huge and are well made too.I will take this suitcase on my next trip to Europe and update the review after. The first impression is great though. However, it doesn’t seem as good as the Remowa and Samsonite I had previously but they cost $100-200 more.

WoW!!! Fantastic quality-made luggage! It is exactly as described. It is extremely light-weight well still being durable. The inside of the luggage has large compartments to hold everything nicely. The separate zippered mesh compartment makes it easy to separate items within your luggage. Overall this luggage is fantastic and I highly recommend it!!!!!

Excellent quality for the regular traveller
This is a very well constructed piece of carry-on luggage! The material is all very sturdy, and everything is put together very well. There are no wiggles or other signs of lesser quality build anywhere. The wheels roll and swivel very smoothly, and the handle extends to a very nice and usable height for even the tallest of travellers. I like the fact it has a zipper lock that is still TSA safe (i.e. has the unlock for their “master” keys), and it is definitely compact and fully carry-on compliant size wise. There are plenty of extra little pouches and what not to ensure you can appropriately place and separate different items, and the bag itself is quite lightweight, despite the heavy duty materials in its construction. I look forward to using this on many a short trip!

Very well made Swiss Gear suitcase with all the features you would ever need.
I am planning a trip shortly and I needed a piece of luggage large enough to carry all my stuff for a week or more away. I came across this Swiss Gear 28-inch suitcase that seemed to have all the features that I would need in a suitcase.The suitcase arrived well-packaged in a large box.It has 8 wheels (4 pairs) that allow you to maneuver the suitcase easily.The suitcase is expandable. There is a large zippered pocket inside the top of the suitcase.There are handles on the top and side. A telescopic aluminum handle allows you to extend the handle to pull the suitcase.There is a TSA-approved combination lock for locking the zipper closed. A TSA lock is a lock that the transit authority can open without having to damage the suitcase or lock. It is a universal system used around the world.The suitcase is very light but also solid enough to survive any abuse that it might face.Swiss Gear has a good reputation and this suitcase is no exception.It has every feature you would want in a suitcase and mode and is very well made.

Excellent little suitcase
This is exactly what one would expect from SwissGear. I’ve gone through a number of suitcases in my time, and SwissGear never disappoints. The wheels roll smoothly; the suitcase is well-balanced; the handle is top-quality. The suitcase is also very light-weight comparing to those I bought some 6 years ago. All the stitching is neat, the lock works perfectly, and the inside of the suitcase is precisely as you would expect it to be. Perfect little carryon, I couldn’t be happier!

Amazing luggage
We got this for a good recent trip and I have to say it exceeded our expectations.The construction is rigid and strong and very robust tones of strength can fit clothes and travel items for a week or more and easily provided you’re not an over packer.The caster wheels are incredible smooth and don’t bind up on tile floors so it’s always ready for the next destination.Great flight companion to have for any trip

Smooth wheels and ample external storage pockets
I was looking for alternative for a hard sided luggage as they don’t have external storage pockets. This expendable luggage has multiple external pockets while traveling to hold documents or quick access items. The wheels rotate smoothly and spin without much friction. The included TSA lock as well as the loophole zipper pulls make securing the luggage for travel convenient. As the main internal compartment is not split into two sections like a hard sided luggage it makes opening the luggage flap very easy as no weight is held in the opening flap.

Wheels glide very smoothly
This is a great basic carry-on suitcase.The wheels roll so smoothly. It’s very easy to walk with the suitcase gliding quietly beside you.There is an integrated TSA lock. The metal zipper pulltabs click into the lock. The lock has a 3 digit dial that you can customise to your preferred combo.The outside has 2 pockets on the front. The lower one has a gusset so you can lower the flap for easy access.The inside has a large mesh pocket on the lid. There are no other compartments on the inside.The suitcase seems to be solidly built, with a sturdy fabric.I wish there were more compartments, but otherwise, it’s a good suitcase.

Perfect cabin suitcase
This is a very high quality suitcase to bring with you in the cabin. I took the 19 inch so the size is good for it to comply to most company standards.I travel a lot and I no longer use larger suitcases. I prefer to have light clothes that I wash as I travel so I bring less. I like this suitcase format instead of the rigid ones that separate in two. This format allows me to place 2 compression bags one on top of the other with all my clothes as well as to place my shoes and my products.The suitcase arrived in a well-packaged box. Inside the suitcase there is a large pocket and outside 2 pockets. The wheels move easily and the handle releases easily from the suitcase. You can also lock the suitcase with the zippers. The instructions provided are easy to understand for initializing your own combination.Good choice

This SWISSGEAR Altitude carry on is a nice piece of luggage. It’s 19” carry on fitting both US,Canada and all European carry on standards. I absolutely LOVE the wheels, that allow you to not only pull it behind you or front of you but along SIDE of you, the wheels just go with the flow and roll along so smoothly. This carry on has a built in TSA lock with a simple 3 digit combination. It also has big inner compartment, 2 sets of straps, along with a small toiletry type bag connected to the inside. I really love the pockets outside of the luggage, so much space for organization. Very Light weight and would highly recommend. Price is great for what you get!

Pros:-Hands down… IMO, the best quality suitcase you’re gonna find-Smooth rolling wheels-Love the 3 front pockets-Good zipper lock-Nice long handle-Also doubles as a boat for a cat that is going on an imaginary voyage to the Nile to meet his worshipped ancestors-Durable / can take some rough treatment from airport luggage… people…Neutral:-This one is deeper than most suitcases out there, but it’s also more narrow…. so it’s up to you to decide if you want depth or width.At the time of this review, this large Swissgear suitcase was $152.99 and it’s well worth it.

Very substantial wheeled bag with pull handle.
This wheeled luggage bag is very well constructed and seems to be quite sturdy. Overall fi ish looks good, as well as the finishing of details. The luggage has a buily in combination lock for the main compartment and lots of storage area and different compartments/options. It rolls well and the pull-up handle feels sturdy enough. We really like this bafg and look forward to using it. Recommended!

Great suitcase
I needed a small rolling suitcase that I was able to use as a carry-on so that I don’t have to worry about finding something like a small bag or a duffle bag that will fit because this is true to size and perfect for carry-on measurements for WestJet and Air Canada. I like having something like this so I can bring a handful of clothing and don’t have to worry if my large suitcase is lost.
