Easy to use and IT WORKS GREAT!
I bought this several months ago at the beginning of the gardening season. I can report back that this fertilizer did wonders for anything and everything I put it on. Veggies grew well, hanging flower baskets went crazy, and I even used it on indoor house plants. My angelwing begonia is looking better than EVER and is currently blooming! This product is so easy to use, just sprinkle some onto the base of the plant and water. Boom. Done. Also, it’s not necessary to reapply frequently, which makes this very cost effective.

Love this stuff for growing micro greens and it doesn’t mold
I prefer buying this Garden Coir vs. the blocks because it’s fluffy and ready to use rather than having to break up blocks. I use it primarily to grow micro greens. Because of the moisture retention, it works well for germinating seeds, and the light and airy texture promotes healthy root growth. This may seem like a small bag, but it is surprising how much it grows when you add water. What I love about this growing medium is that it does not promote the growth of algae or mold. It also helps to maintain moisture, is easily hydrated, and promotes root growth. I am using this Garden Coir for growing micro greens. I use germination paper to prevent the coconut coir from falling through the openings in the tray, sprinkle the seeds on top of the moist coconut coir, and cover the seeds for a couple of days until they start to germinate. Once the seeds start germinating, I put nutrient solution in the bottom tray, and mist the growing plants. As you can see from the second picture, the roots of the plants have grown through the Garden Coir and germination paper to reach the nutrient solution below. When these micro greens get to 3″-4″, I cut off the tops for salads, soups, etc. and they continue to grow to be harvested again.UPDATE 8/14/19:The last picture was taken about 3 weeks after the first picture. I have already harvested these micro greens multiple times for addition to 3 salads each time, and the greens are still happily growing. in a little over 1 inch of this coconut coir. I couldn’t be happier with the results of this growing medium.UPDATE 8/08/20:I grow quite a few veggies and herbs in my basement under lights, and sometimes root cutting from my plants to grow new plants for myself and friends. I had been using a rooting hormone and FoxFarm potting soil to root cuttings. This has been working very well, but I recently decided to try rooting 4 cutting of rosemary – 2 using potting soil and 2 using this Garden Coir medium. I used the same rooting hormone for all of them. The cuttings in the Garden Coir grew roots I could see at the bottom of the pots almost 2 weeks sooner than the cuttings in the potting soil. I believe this happened because the Garden coir drains better than potting soil and stays moist (not wet) for longer.I hope this review was helpful for you. I will update the review if my opinion changes or when I learn more uses for it.

Impossible to re-seal. A minor inconvenience.
The soil seems fine however, the bag is poorly designed. The miniscule grooves are impossible to align and seal again. It’s not a big deal if you use up the bag in one go, but it’s kind of annoying if you have to store it.

Quality soil so far
I’m a budding plant enthusiast, so not overly familiar with the in-depth science behind soil composition for plants just yet. From my experience handling this soil so far, there is a good mixture of large and small substrates to allow for drainage while still providing a firm base to compact around and support roots. I find that using a mister or spray bottle to dampen the soil will retain that moisture for a few hours, but does need checking throughout the day as it can dry out quickly. Other watering methods may vary.I’m only one week into germinating basil with this potting mix, but I’m already seeing multiple sprouts in each pot. It claims to be pre-fertilized with a 3-month supply of plant food. We’ll see how my plants hold up.

Here’s What I Like
First, it is very, very easy to apply. Just put on gloves and scatter it around.Second, it doesn’t smell. There is nothing worse than fertilizing your garden and then being unable to enjoy it because of the smell. This one passes the “smell test.”Third, my plants like it. A lot.Hope this is helpful.

Need N? Use this!
Excellent source of Nitrogen. Pretty fast acting for an organic source, doesn’t seem to deplete fast either.Pro tip: Pay attention to your plants. If you have dark green foliage already, do NOT apply this. You will burn your plants. If not, start small and work up to avoid issues. A little goes a long way.

Maybe a good product, seemed to burn my geranium, though.
Contains fertilizer; beware. Watch out for that. May burn your plant. Not the best. Not much coir in it or coconut husks or anything like that. Needs more aeration. Too dense for some plants. Coir improves air porosity, which there doesn’t seem to be much of in this mix. It’s just okay. 🙁 Not bad, shall we say.

USE THIS PRODUCT FOR YOUR PLANTS
We have been planting for a few years, we’re newbies. We use the bone and blood meal for the plants…WOW!! I see a tremendous difference with the happy, sprite and bountiful size of our potatoes, collards and Kale. You will see a difference in your plants as well. Use it as instructed and you won’t regret it.

This seemed to boost my garden but what is missing is how much to add if your garden is in containers. It’s labeled to apply per square footage only. I sprinkled a little in and hoped for the best. It worked

Looks and smells great!
But it killed all the plants I used it on! Not sure what is going on, but every single plant I used this soil with ended up dying just a week later. I’m not sure what I did wrong, but that was unexpected!

What I’m about to say is silly but true…
I’m not a green thumb at all. I’m a gamer, that’s right, a gamer. One of those games is Minecraft. In the game, I use bonemeal to pretty much speed up the growing time of my virtual crops. In real world time, I wanted to grow cucumbers (silly but true). I had some 1 cup 36 disposable planters and put the fertilizer in first then sprinkled a heaping tablespoon of bone meal on top. With my finger kind of swirled it to partially blend and about 1 inch deep I put in 2 seeds. I then covered it back up. I proceeded to pour a little hot water on top. (I learned this in science class) I did this for 36 planters. In 2-3 days (seriously), I was shocked. I had little baby sprouts. So cute! Out of the 36 planters, only 9 didn’t grow. However that’s okay, because the cucumber seeds I had were over 3 years old, so I wasn’t expecting any results. Bonemeal, who knew? Minecraft did. Absolutely, would use this bonemeal again to help speed up growing time and give the fertilizer/soil extra nutrients.

Helps keep plants from drying out in pots
I mixed this in with the soil and did a layer on top of my containers in a full sun balcony. The soil is holding water well, not getting dried out like last year even when they aren’t watered everyday.

Excellent for tomato plants and starts
I always mix some of this and some Epsom salts into my tomato fertilizer. This is a great source of relatively soluble calcium and phosphorus and with the magnesium from the Epsom salts to facilitate the uptake, I always end up with spectacular results. Starts are about 50% bigger than without [and yes, I carried out this actual experiment last year on 20 plants with and 20 without to validate my opinion]. I also add this weekly to those in the garden. Overall, I get an enormous about of vegetation, healthy and extremely flavorful tomatoes. With the Big Boy variety, I average about 25# per year of tomatoes per plant.

Fertilizer
It’s a decent product. Can’t say it WOW’d me. But I’n only a 2nd year gardener and am still learning when to use certain fertilizers. I can only say, do your homework you don’t want to over fertilize your garden know when and where not to put down certain fertilizers.

I OWE BURPEE AN BIG APOLOGY
UNTIL THIS PURCHASE, BURPEE A NAME I TRUSTED. I USED THIS PRODUCT IN TWO BUCKETS WITH POTATOES PLANTED THEREIN, WITHIN ABOUT 5 DAYS, I SAW SMALL WHITE WORMS, THEY APPEARED TO BE MAGOTS. THEY WEREN’T GRUB WORMS, NOR THE TRANSPARENT SKINNY WHITE WORMS. I HAD PLANTED TWO TOTES WITH DIFFERENT VEGETABLES, AND DID NOT PUT THIS PRODUCT IN THOSE, BUT ONLY THE POTATOES, NO WORMS WERE IN THE TOTES, SO I DEDUCED IT HAD TO BE RELATED TO THE BURPEE BONE MEAL, AS IT WAS THE ONLY THING DIFFERENT PER TOP SOIL, WORM CASTINGS AND PEAT MOSS THAT WAS IN THOSE CONTAINERS. SO NO, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT. I WAS GREATLY DISAPPOINTED WITH BURPEE.UPDATE: I MADE A BIG MISTAKE BY DOWNING BURPEE. I HADN’T EVER USED BONE MEAL THAT I RECALL AND I’M 71 YRS OLD, AND PLANTED A FEW ITEMS IN BUCKETS AND TOTES. WELL I DID NOT KNOW UNTIL I SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO KNEW MORE ABOUT GARDENING THAN I EVER RECALL THAT BONE MEAL USAGE, DRAWS FLIES, THAT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE FLIES THAT LAID WHAT I THOUGHT WERE MAGOTS, THINKING THEY CAME FROM THE BONE MEAL. SO BURPEE, PLEASE ACCEPT MY DEEPEST APOLOGY AND SHAME FOR HAVING GIVEN YOU AN AWFUL REVIEW. I HAD ALWAYS COUNTED ON YOUR PRODUCTS DECADES AGO AND WAS ALWAYS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. AGAIN I AM SORRY. PLEASE FORGIVE ME MY MISTAKE. TAKE CARE AND YES I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!

Great stuff for topping off itty bitty tiny seeds!
There is currently a shortage of vermiculite, so I was thrilled to find it for a good price on here. This is fine grade…perfect for lightly covering seeds that need light to germinate. This is not what you want to store dahlias. Overall, it’s a good value and beats trying to crush larger pieces with a rolling pin.I’ve had lots of vermiculite, but this is the first time I’ve tried fine grade for horticulture use. Typically I buy whatever I can find, stick it in a Ziploc, and roll/crush it to death to get it so it’s fine grade. There’s always leftover pieces in it, though, that are too big and have to be picked out. This was used over tiny seeds that needed light to germinate. I put the seeds on the seed starting soil, and then sprinkle the vermiculite on top. The seeds germinated as expected. Note: you’ll need a very low pressure water bottle so you can fine mist before applying heavier water, or the vermiculite and seeds will blow everywhere. One tip is to spray directly down on them at first to minimize the blowing, and then you can water like normal. Once your seedlings are up, you can bottom water.Highly recommend! The price was the same as all my local options, too.

The garden loved it.
After the fertilizer was applied, I got blooms then fruit within days. I will say , I’m a container gardener. In the grow bags so many mushrooms grew with my veggies. I was pulling them out daily. In my terracotta pots this was not much of an issue.

Close but no cigar
What I liked about the Burpee Premium Organic Potting Natural Soil Mix: This product was decent and what you would expect from a natural product of soil mix. It was ok, but not the best for my needs. Cons for me were: Had pieces of wood and sometimes shredded plastic and the coconut held water way too much for my needs, I prefer Peralite. I used the potting mix for seed starting and repotting existing plants.

WORKS ALMOST IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!
Buy this. Now. BUY IT. Used it for my newly-planted garden patch of impatiens and petunias. I purposely applied the fertilizer the night before we were supposed to have rain. That was a Friday. Rained intermittently throughout Saturday. By Sunday evening, each plant had almost doubled in size, appeared stronger and more established in the ground, and the impatiens had TONS of new buds waiting to emerge. Earlier this afternoon, I applied the fertilizer to a bunch of potted plants in my backyard – New Guinea and regular impatiens, petunias, vinca, and begonias. It’s now 6:30 pm, and I’ve already noticed a few new blooms that have sprouted… Eleven of the best dollars I’ve ever spent. GREAT PRODUCT!!! Also extremely easy to use. Directions say to “gently blend with native soil”, but I literally just sprinkled a handful around the base of each plant and watered. Works like magic!

Great product.
First time gardener. Used these when potting all my flower seedlings. They’re thriving so well! Will use next year when I am germinating flower seeds as well. For the plants that I put a little too much, it seems they are getting too much nitrogen. Lots of HUGE leaves and taking longer to bud, but that would be my own fault for not measuring correctly. Either way they are absolutely healthy thanks to this product.Love that it lasts for a few months so that I don’t have to keep feeding them. Even have enough for next year.

It is a ‘fine’ grade
Didn’t realize it was the consistency of sand. If used for propagations, you need to line the bottom of the pot with something so it doesn’t come out.Other than that, it’s vermiculite.

Worked well for my organic cherry tomato seedlings
It took about 5 days for the seeds to germinate, so I wasn’t sure I used the right soil but I kept it moist and eventually they grew. These photos are from day 2 ans Currently, they are starting to shoot out the 2nd pair of leaves but I notice they are starting to yellow, so there are some nutrient boost that is needed.

I don’t have a reason not to like the vermiculite because it’s one of the soil requirements( that’s only me saying that) It is important to add other vermiculite in addition to your soil mix for it helps for germination to seeds and roots once it develops. This I say from experience. I’m and avid gardener and adding vermiculite and perlite to soil mixes truly helps developed plants especially when planted in pots for better air circulation. Thank you
