    Cleans very well

Always loyal to a Bissell product. These have gotten so expensive that when I found this one, I ordered it for my mother. Works really well. The handle is shorter (guess it saved the company some money) but may be okay for shorter folks like my mother but it does really need to be a little longer.

Great for a quick pick up!

This is the best purchase I’ve made for my classroom to date. The floor gets dirty throughout the day, and this sweeper is efficient and “user friendly” enough that even my little Pre-K kiddos can use it if they want to be helpers. (And then we don’t need to call in a custodian for little jobs.)

    Floor cleaner

It works for sure but I found it to be very stiff, rigid, and loud when in use. My handle will not stay on and pulls off with each pull. Stores away very nicely, as it flattens up against a wall for tight spaces.

    This sweeper is great!

My vacuum is so heavy and noisy, and a pain to get out, plug in, and use for a quick clean up. This is perfect! I’m SO glad I ordered it.

This isn’t a vacuum, but it does a great job getting the big stuff off the carpet of our RV.Easy to clean and empty, light weight, stores easily behind a door. It’s like a broom for your carpet.

    Handle broke

I love this thing for cleaning the floors of my classroom, it works amazingly. Only gripe is that the handle has broken on me. The threads that screw it together aren’t good quality and now the joints between the pieces slide right past each other so the handle won’t stay on. I’ll probably get some JB weld to secure it permanently…

    Works Nicely

I used to see my teachers using these on the school carpets and such. So I knew I had to get one. This is easy to empty and clean, but if you’re sweeping up any hair it’ll take some time to get it out. I’m only giving 4-stars because the handle piece doesn’t secure to the rest of the rod and comes off too easily (usually as I’m sweeping) and with some things on the floor (in my case, hay) it can take a few swipes to pick it up. Otherwise this works great!

    Easy to use

You basically use it like you’re vacuuming with just 1 big difference. The sweeper will work best at picking up debris if it’s moving just one direction. Moving it back and forth simply causes it the “cough” up stuff it had just picked up. The sweeping is mostly built of sturdy metal. Emptying the dust cup is also very easy.I use mine to pick up dead leaves on my astroturf patio and it works great. Initially I thought turf would be to thin, but I made sure to take advantage of the greater pick up efficient of single direction passes. For me it way faster than sweeping.

Great Little Sweeper for the Price

I got really tired of lugging out the vacuum cleaner for minor jobs, and was considering a hand held vacuum when I found this. Now I wonder how I ever got along without it! It’s so light a child could use it, nearly noiseless, doesn’t need recharging, and it really does pick up an amazing amount of dust, grit, thread, pet hair, lint, etc. It’s actually fun to use, and easy to store because the sweeper folds up. It’s best on carpet, but works OK on hard flooring too — as long as what you’re trying to pick up isn’t stuck or in between tiles. You do need to clean it often — after every couple uses — but it’s easy to empty. There may be some gritty fallout from the bins –so just sweep it up again. Cleaning the brushes is pretty easy too. I don’t see any replacement brushes offered on Amazon, and I don’t know how long they last — but so far, I’m very happy with this little sweeper. And it doesn’t scare the kitty!

    Works ok. Handy.

Grandmother used a few when all metal , very handy. We needed some for home and office. Not metal anymore and wouldnt take alot of abuse. Not meant for taller carpet and broom will get entangled with string , hair , ect. Normal use on flat floors or carpet they work great.

Seems to work fine. Picks up surface stuff ok. Only thing is, I wish it came with a brush cleaner. Guess i will have to order some. At least I still had one from my old Bissell sweeper. Update- Guess the roller can be removed to clean. Just read the instructions.

Love these, but this one is kind of fragile

In short, I highly recommend a carpet sweeper… but just not this particular brand. My workplace (cat adoption lounge) uses this kind of brush for cleaning the carpets and it works so well even better than vacuuming, I decided to buy one for my own home since the upstairs is carpet. The difference I noticed, even though they’re functionally the same, this Bissel one seems a lot more fragile than the one at my workplace, which I don’t remember the brand name but it’s not Bissel. It’s not TOO big of a deal since it isn’t permanently breaking, it’s just some parts that come apart if I’m not careful enough. Such as the metal connecting the sides of the head might come loose and I have to snap it back in place, same for the handle tip. The one at work I can be much more rough with and never had it come apart. It so far has not had any permanent damage, so that’s the important part. But I wish I could be a little more rough to get the speed required to really pick up debris from the carpet. It isn’t very effective if you just run over the carpet slowly, you have to brush back and forth fast. So it has been more difficult to clean my room with this sweeper, than it is to clean my workplace carpet that is even dirtier with their sweeper.Another issue I have, is that the lid at the front of the bottom will sometimes open itself and spill the trash over the floor while brushing, due to friction with the carpet and the lid opening being RIGHT at the edge… The carpet is not that long-haired, it’s not a shag rug, it’s like a standard generic house carpet with relatively short hairs. The other brand sweeper I use at work is able to go over various bumps and lumps in the carpet and it runs over those fine. So I think it is a problem with this sweeper in particular.

    5 issues with 1 machine

    1. Make sure the logo is pointing the right direction, (forward) or it won’t pick up anything at all. Inform all users (20+) that it will only work if the word “Bissell” is away from the user’s feet. An arrow and a helpful word like “front” would save everyone a lot of aggravation when using. Instead, each person forgets, gets frustrated when “it’s not working!”, berates me, and then remembers this rule, only to promptly forget it again.2. The plastic handle top piece (on ours) won’t attach to the metal pole, and we all gave it a go. The 3 metal pieces of the pole went together easily, but the top plastic handle shouldn’t take 20+ people screwing their wrists off to attach. It’s still not attached, but each person can’t believe the other 20+ people didn’t mess it up, and has to try it for him/her/themself. Because the plastic handle won’t attach to the metal pole, we cannot hang it in our storage room as intended. Instead, we now enjoy it’s festive teal presence in our breakroom. We love to eat lunch with floor cleaning tools close to hand.3. The plastic handle also prevents the metal pole from digging into one’s palms when using, so without securely fastening to the metal, it falls off-a lot, which all of us find very annoying (see picture of handle on floor.)4. It picks up about 1/3 of anything one tries to sweep up, so one ends up using 3x the force to fully sweep up debris-on a hard surface floor. (see picture of small debris on floor in front of sweeper) I can’t even imagine what it won’t do on a carpet. A dustpan and broom would be less effort, but would not be a single, contained unit. My team seems to lose dustpans, so the sweeper appeared to be a solution for this problem.5. Finally, to empty the canister, one must use 2 hands to push open the bottom indentations (which are dirty/dusty), and there are two levers (one on each side) to empty. I believe a better design would allow a user to empty the sweeper one-handed, and without having to get so up-close and handsy with a dirty item.In short, this item is a lot more work to use than it should be. It’s great for people who really feel like pushing a sweeper vigorously is accomplishing something. It does pick up some things (but not all the things). It can also provide a brisk workout and allow frustrated people to blow of steam, benefits which are not mentioned in the product description.

Much better than what most reviews say.

I was shopping for hours for a push sweeper/vacuum to help keep the house clean. Everyone I found had great and terrible reviews making it hard to choose. I was back and forth on this one and other products, but figured for the price, it was a good tester one at the least. Even if it didn’t last for long as some suggested. It was easy to put together. Super light weight, super compact. I have a 3b/2b house. The only carpet is in the bedrooms and the hallway connecting the back 2 rooms. Everything else is either hardwood or tile. I am a longhaired ginger ( we shed more than other breeds, science) 2 long haired cats, a short hair pup that sheds more than I thought possible. And a italian/Greek man that won’t admit to shedding, just because it comes from his body, and not his balding head. As you can imagine. We must sweep at least once a day, if not 2 or 3 times to keep control of the hair. I change bedding daily because of the dog alone. I’m tired of sweeping so much. This thing is great! I’m already in love. It picks up the dogs tiny blonde hair, my long red strands and everything else. It obviously isn’t good for a deep vacuum on the carpets, but it picks up enough so that I can vacuum once a week, instead of once a day. Hair did get caught it the wheel/Bristols preventing it from moving after doing just about the whole house, but it was easy enough to clean and keep going. My hair alone has destroyed even the most expensive vacuums rollers that were a pain in the 🍑 to clean. This Bristol took me 2 minutes to get my hair unstuck. I never expected perfection, and it’s much better than I expected. So for me, it was totally worth it. So much better than the 400$ roomba we bought that is loud, gets stuck and doesn’t pick up much.

    Happy with My Purchase

I use this in between vacuuming to pick up crumbs and such on my living room rug. I also use it on my throw rugs in the kitchen. Does a good job of picking up, and I love the color. My only complaint is it’s a little hard to empty out. There’s no way to do it without getting your hands all over the bottom of it, where the dirt is. The size is nice because it’s small enough to get in between furniture and under my side tables. I’d recommend.

Works for what I need it for: cat litter!

This sweeper does the job for me. Yes, it’s not the sturdiest ever, not the most powerful sweeper ever, but I wasn’t expecting miracles. I have a shorthair cat and it picks up his hair off the surface of my carpet like a charm. It also generally does a good job of cleaning up surface cat litter, but if the cat litter has kind of sunk deeper into the carpet fibers it won’t be able to grab it. It’s nice to use on a daily basis so I don’t have to bring out the vacuum every few days and traumatize my cat.My only real complaint is that the emptying mechanism kind of sucks. Half the time, what I just sweeped up ends up on the floor again because it spills, the sweeper handle is a little awkward to hold while trying to empty it at the same time.

The others just don’t get it.

Let’s get one thing clear, this sweeper is NOT a vacuum. It is NOT designed to clean things in a thorough way. It is in no way meant to replace your vacuum. That’s why all of these braindead videos people are posting where they brush it over a pile of dog food or whatever at a rate of speed of like 2 inches per year make it look bad. If you have a firm grip, press down a small bit, and swipe it fast, it does what it’s supposed to do, which is pick up smaller things on your carpet. Things like hair, little crumbs, and small papers. That’s what it’s designed to do and it does that job wonderfully. If you actually know how to use the product, and you understand what it’s meant for, you’re going to love it. The only reason I bought this is because my Bissell sweeper that had been in use in my family for over THIRTY YEARS just now broke. These things are wonderfully reliable and act as a good way to “touch up” when you get company at the last second. It won’t replace your vacuum, but it will keep your carpet looking nice in between vacuuming sessions. I would absolutely recommend this wonderful product!

    Handy for doorway rug

Bought so I wouldn’t have to get my vacuum out so often to clean my entryway rug. It’s small enough I can tuck it out of the way. Does a decent job picking up dirt and small debris. Does so-so with sand. The handle part is short (that’s 5’3” me calling something short…;-) and no one in the family has figured out how to keep the top part of the handle on for some reason…..Overall a decent solution for the situation and I do not feel it was a waste of money but I will probably splurge for a cordless vacuum in the near future to replace it.

    Handle’s Short

#1 Directions say to have grey wheel on right. I had to put it on the left for mine to function right.#2 Handle is short, so plan on breaking your back bending over when you use this!#3 Other than #1&2, It works fabulously! No other real complaints, it picks up well on carpet and ok on tile. There were moments when it would dump stuff on the tile, which was quite frustrating!

Works well on rugs, not hardwood or linoleum

I bought this for our screened in lanai which has some sort of low “fake grass carpet stuff” glued to the cement. I tested it on our rugs inside as well, and our hard wood floor and linoleum. The only thing it wasn’t great on is our hardwood floor and linoleum, where it didn’t really do anything. The handle is a bit short and I’m not a tall person, if you are tall you will definitely be leaning over while using it. Otherwise it works perfectly for my purposes which is very low “grass look” stuff, and also on tight rugs. It does not work on hard wood or linoleum floors.

Great on carpet, not great on wood floors

I originally bought this to clean a rug in my classroom, but I tried it at home on my living room rug that was covered in cat hair, and it did such a great job of cleaning up the cat hair at home, I kept it here. I know this is “crazy cat lady” of me, but because my cats are afraid of the vacuum, I don’t pull it out if they are napping, which is honestly most of the time. This makes it easy for me to clean the rug while they are sleeping in the room. If this could only pick up crumbs off my hardwood floors, it would be perfect!

Works fine, but handle does not stay attached

As others have mentioned, the plastic handle that attaches to the rod will not screw on, although the instructions seem to indicate that it is supposed to. It seems like a pretty basic design flaw. So every time you pick it up the handle will likely fall off. Prepare to use some glue.

Great for cleaning up Kitchen carpet runners

Product is inexpensive and lightweight–easy for my wife to use to keep the kitchen “runner” rugs neat and tidy. The sweeper did an acceptable job on the low-profile nap of the runners, but didn’t seem to be very effective on the bare ceramic tile floor. The product ships with the handle in 3 pieces, and the fine pitch thread was challenging to start threading, but I managed to assemble the unit. It’s very compact and the handle folds flat, allowing us to “store” the sweeper in the space between the refrigerator and the cabinetry. I consider this product to be a very good value for the price.

    Not The Best

I got this because it was the cheapest one I could find and it’s clunky. I hurst my wrists trying to assemble the handles that have to be twisted into one another. It was not easy to get the threading lined up and then I had to turn and turn and turn. The top grip handle is loose and does not seem to tighten. I have to go over the carpet back and forth several times before it picks up all the debris. You need a flat head screw driver or long nails to open the bottom to empty it into the trash. You also have to pull the hairs out of the brush like you would a hair brush. The bottom bracket that holds the handle doesn’t flow easy when in use either.

    Great for my classroom!

EDIT: Nov 27: I have used this for two months in my classroom and it’s gotten daily use and the handles have come apart completely. The screw part of the end is stripped. Definitely shouldn’t have happened with only two month use.My kids are responsible for keeping our classroom clean and this has helped with the little things that fall into the carpet and are hard to pick up by hand. They actually argue and want to be the one to help use this to pick up the messes around the room. It’s actually quite funny. This has helped keep the custodians happy and has helped keep my kids responsible for themselves.Thank you!

    It doesn’t NOT work…

It is super compact, even the box it comes in is tiny. I was thrilled about that. It’s easy to assemble the handle. It’s sleek, it folds up to hide in a small area between cabinets. It’s super cute. However, it definitely is better suited for low traffic areas, small pieces. It didn’t go well on the kitchen floor with cookie crumbs, but it picked up most of the litter the cats somehow tracked out of their “bathrooms” (another product here on Amazon). It would pick up hair ties, and some small pieces of paper from the carpet, but only about half of the spilled rice from take-out the other day.

Not good for animal hair on thick carpet

Would not buy if you have a long hair dog and thick heavy carpet. The first time I bought this I lived in a different house with average carpet. It worked great for picking up dog hair. I have a bad back so I got it so I wouldn’t have to keep bending down to pick up the dog hair. And the hair would clog a regular vacuum so I would have to pick up the hair first then vacuum. Now that I moved, the house has a thicker carpet and it barely picks up the hair. It does still pick up the debri though. Also, it feels shorter than the last one I bought. I am 5′ 8″, not real tall, but not short either. I have to almost bend over to get a good sweep. I also have tendinosis and with the thicker carpet, it doesn’t glide over it easily. So with my bad back and bad elbows, I won’t even use it anymore. It should have an extra pole to make it taller and easier to use. I can only push it over a foot maybe two each sweep. My 6’2″ son literally has to bend over to use it. Great for the price if you have average carpet

    Quiet and quick

It’s not as good as a vacuum but it is very quiet, I use it for entry way rug spot treatment when I don’t want to lug out my canister vac, it is not good on tile floors. but if you have a traffic area and someone else is on a call or working from home this is a good trade off. No power needed and cleans up the sawdust from the garage projects very well. No complaints from me here.

Whenever i try to take out the hair that is wrapped around the mop brush, the brush strands seem to come off easily.3. Whenever i hit a wall while moving the mop back and forth, particles inside the mop falls (not all, but some).4. Corner dirt cannot be picked up. Needs manual wiping.

    I’m happy with this sweeper!

Bissell has been a household name since I was a child!(1950’s) It has NOT failed me now! I’m renting a room in a ‘shared apartment’ The Bissell carpet sweeper makes cleaning the rug in my room very easy! It actually lifts up the nap of my carpet. I was surprised by the amount of lint it removed ! (I shouldn’t have been!!) zthecsweepervstores easily and is available when I need it. It empties easily (read the instructions, please). The joke on the STAR page following is very funny! 😄😄😄 Thank you for the laugh! There is one photo for each side of my sweeper…lots of pick up for my small room!

    RV

This works fine in our RV. It’s only a single brush not two. I believe one with two brushes would work better. Overall, it’s good.

    short handle

I like this little sweeper; it almost does everything I wanted it for. I am short (5’2″) and I wish the handle was just a few inches longer. The other sad note, it does not do edges. I have to go along with another sweeper and do the edges, then this little guy does a great job picking up all the dog hair. (I have three dogs with three habits … shedding, sleeping, and eating… in order of preferred actions)

    1 out of 2 ain’t bad

I got two and one of them works great! This is a really solid option when I am too over-stimulated and the noise of a whole vacuum would be terrible. Works decently on carpet and less so on hard wood or tile floors but still fine.Unfortunately one of them has a handle that just won’t screw on and also trying to get the handle on and pressing just a little harder than normal (I’m not particularly strong lol) it bent the metal.. I can still use it if I hold it in a specific way, but its pretty cheaply made

    Surprisingly Effective!

I got this sweeper to pick up assorted debris that 3 large dogs deposit on the carpet. Assembly was a snap! Started to sweep with the “Bissell” brand readable from my position standing above and behind the base. It pushed fine, but did not pull well at all. Then I tried reversing the base so “Bissell” was upside down from my perspective. That did the trick! I was able to get all the little bits of stuff up with just one or two sweeps. It is quiet when moving across the carpet, but the wheels do make noise sweeping over the tile. Still picks up the little bits though. When I emptied the bin, I was really surprised at the amount of hair this thing managed to collect! There were little pieces of thread and some hair on the brushes that I had to remove by hand, but that process went a lot faster than cutting through the same bits of thread that collect and jam up the beater bar of my Shark vacuum. It won’t replace having to vacuum periodically, of course, but the sweeper doesn’t “beat” the carpet the same way as my vacuum does, which means I don’t have to deal with the unpleasant “dog” smell that always accompanies the vacuuming process.

    Works like a champ

Easy to put together, lightweight and it picks up ALL THE THINGS!! Cat hair, crumbs, cat hair, stuff that blows in from the front door, cat hair. It works on my throw rugs and hardwood floors.

    Little disappointed

So I got the teal new Bissell because it was cheap so I guess it’s about what I should expect but was still disappointed with it only because I own a Bissell Sturdy fur over 10years and its 10 times better.First, this Bissell sweeper comes with one less piece for the handle making it 8 inches shorter.Second, unlike my old one, the handle only falls to one side which is such a senseless design flaw since they could’ve easily made it fall to both sides so you don’t have to think about weather you’re on the right side of the sweeper to push it.Third, it’s brand new so it just may need some breaking in but you have to push down on it to get those wheels rolling so the brush can spin and collect dust. Pulling the sweeper back to you doesn’t put enough weight on the wheels so they don’t spin on the pull back.In conclusion, it’s okay for how cheap it is and will get the job done but I would recommend paying a little more for an upgraded one. I just got a brush replacement for the older one so this new one isn’t gonna see much action as long as that one works.

    Junk

I used to work in retail, and often times, these are the types of sweepers we used in the clothing stores where I was an employee. The carpet was the very short/Berber type & these little machines used to work like a dream. My son started College in August, and the carpet in his dorm room is very similar to what used to be in those clothing stores in the late 90’s-mid 2000’s, so I purchased this for him & had it delivered to his dorm.So far, he has told me that because of an issue where the handle won’t stay connected, it’s basically impossible to use. Apparently, as you’re trying to sweep, the handle just falls out! So this was basically a $20 piece of garbage, because he already threw away the box. I’m not giving it one star, bc I try to reserve that for the TRULY awful, and since I am going off my son’s report I am adding a star to give Bissell the “benefit of the doubt,” but that’s the only reason.Besides being essentially un-useable, it’s also embarrassing that I purchased this for my son for his dorm mates to see. It’s probably embarrassing for him too.I used to think of Bissell as a brand I could trust, but not so much anymore. I just wish I still had the box so we could send it back! There are other brands of this type of sweeper out there, and perhaps they are better. They are also a lot more expensive. I guess in this case, the old addage is true: you get what you pay for.

    Handle falls apart

Figure on gluing the handle together. It’s not made well enough to work as is. Other than that, it’s functionally fine.Got a second one. The threads are well-enough made this time. Greatly improved. A little difficult to get started, fine threads on large diameters need lead-ins. The main problem this time was the case was broken. Packaging/transportation problem. Same glue worked fine. In addition, one end of the brush was out of its socket. Very easy to fix.In conclusion, it cleans carpets fine. However, you should be moderately handy in case you have my luck.

    ARTHRITIS ? RUN FOREST RUNhands

Works grandly.Handle is about 16-18 inches to short for a 5’10” person.Have to bend over like crazy to operate it. Kills my arthritic back.Very flimsy handle as well.Couple flimsy and to short of a handle and will PAIN even the best hands and back. You have to push down really hard on the shirt handle to keep it flat enough to make it work when pulling. It back to you .But then again, it does do a fabulous job. I suggest getting the kids to operate it.It also seems quite well made otherwise.

    Handle stripped right away

Wish I read more reviews. The handle is very short.( read there was supposed to b a long handle also, not so). Have to screw the handle back on several times during the sweeping which works very well. Too bad. Wasn’t even worth the 20 bucks.

    Fairly good

This is great for pick ups, it does pick up my hair and thread and most everything you can see on carpet. It only works on carpet. For any deep cleaning you would need a vacuum cleaner for that. But I like it for in between uses.

    Love this

This little beauty does a much better job of picking up pet hair, grass, thread and dirt in general than my electric vacuum did. I have a low pile Oriental rug in my bedroom that is black in the center. It always showed everything that came off of pets, feet, or shoes, the electric vacuum would leave things stuck to the carpet and I would have to get down on the floor, which isn’t all that easy at 68, and use a sticky roller to pick up these things. My Bissell carpet sweeper has eliminated that. I would highly recommend this sweeper to all. The only possible negative would be is that the handle is made of thin metal hitch may make it a little weak. I ended up buy a 3/8” dowel rod from Home Depot for $1.58 and cut it off and inserted it inside the handle to make it more sturdy.

    Great for camping!

Needed something to keep my tent floors a bit less dirty (especially with the dog) we have moving blankets and mats down , someone suggested a carpet sweeper and it took me back to my childhood when my grandma had one. We took it camping last week and this little guy exceeded my expectations! Still need a dust pan but it was a great help! Definitely worth it . Only negative is the handle won’t stay on, but that’s fixable
