    Customer Service Saves The Day

Commentary on customer service will follow this general review of the BR-1211DS.If you’ve ever had teenagers staring into the open door of the refrigerator as they contemplate whatever teenagers think about, you’ll understand why I used to tell them to close the door and look from the outside. After a while they would realize they were staring at the closed refrigerator and they would finally open the door and make some kind of selection. This memory may have been a factor when I selected this unit as a general reach-in. I’m sure it’s an energy-saving benefit to be able to make your choice while the door is closed. The contents of my fridge are not as photogenic as the display of beverages in the product listing. But, the fridge has plenty of cooling capacity. I do wish it had more internal LED lighting and that the controls for a little less accessible to little fingers.Although not the fault of the product, I had opportunity to interact with Whynter’s Customer Service process. I say process because it moves at its own speed and the more patient you are the happier you will be. Ultimately I was very happy. While the landlord was making electrical “improvements” they managed to disconnect the neutral in the supply wiring to my space. Not unexpectedly, one side of my panel jumped from 120 volts AC to 240 volts AC. Understandably, some of the appliances did not react well to double voltage. That would include the subject refrigerator. In the interest of time, I I ordered a duplicate from Amazon which arrived in a day or so. The landlord and I came to financial terms. But what to do with the dead fridge? I reasoned that the failure might be limited to the main power control board, and it would be a shame to toss an otherwise good refrigerator which might be simply repaired. If you call Whynter, they really want you to email them. So you may as well start that way. Expect a response the following day. They wanted to ask me a bunch of warranty and troubleshooting questions which I didn’t think fit my circumstances. Our email correspondence took place over several days. They did offer me some help with purchasing a new one. But, I explained I was past that point. What I really wanted was a power control board. They don’t really anticipate that customers will perform their own repairs. If I had to pay someone to do it, it wouldn’t be as satisfying a story. They had an owner’s manual available (which I already had). But, there doesn’t appear to be a technical manual. Fortunately, there’s a wiring diagram on the back of the refrigerator which along with an exploded parts diagram gave me enough clues. Whynter furnished a power control board and I finally got around to playing technician. The damaged board had a blown disc capacitor which gave its life to prevent further damage. I took some pictures before I disconnected the wiring and consulted them while reconnecting the new board. When I powered up the fridge, the display and lighting came on. It quickly chilled to the set point and has been in service ever since. So, my thanks to Chenie with Whynter because everything worked out.

    Great Purchase

The fridge showed up on-time! Unpacking it was super easy! Now to get down to business…Pros:So far, my beverages have been super cold! The fridge has delivered as advertised! (My suggestion is that I have found a sweet-spot for the temperature being just below 6. *Temp range is 4-7*. I found that if it’s passed 6 towards 7, then the fridge’s compressor will run forever, trying to keep it cold.)It looks great! The modern look of the fridge gave my man-cave a great ambiance, especially when the interior light is on.As for my ears, the fridge is not that noisy. If you plan on being in your man-cave or the area that you will spend the most time at, in complete silence, then this fridge is not for you! I turn my television or music up to a normal listening level, and it immediately cancels out the noise form the fridge, making it virtually quiet to the ear.Cons:The one thing that I did not like while assembling the fridge (just the handle to the door) is that I had to peel back the door’s seal in order to install the screws to the handle. This is not good because just doing that, may cause the potential of losing the integrity of the seal. I wish that the manufacture would’ve come up with a better way to handle this issue. So, when assembling the handle to the door, please check and re-check your seal before turning on the unit and adding beverages to the fridge. It would be nice if the light came on when opening the door, instead of turning the light on/off when needed. (However, this is not a deal breaker for me)

    Works great for drinks

The fridge works great and keeps the drinks at around 58F at higher ambient temperatures (80F). The key is to keep it fully stocked to maximize cooling. The only aspect I’m not sir what to make of yet is the ice build up on the cooling unit. See attached pictures. It seems the defrosting is not working too well or it was just from the initial startup. It’s been about 2 weeks now and I haven’t observed any new ice build up

    Love the looks! Noisy

Love the looks of this beverage fridge but makes a lot of strange noises. Some times its a clicking, sometimes a gurgling sound, other times its a snap and cracking sound. Hope this holds up is all I can say.

    Works as needed

It’s slightly noisier than expected and I received with small cosmetic damage, but it works as needed. I like the look of it and it holds a lot of cans with plenty of space at the bottom for larger bottles.

    Decent fridge; helpful customer support.

This is a pretty decent fridge for the price. The first unit that was delivered didn’t work out of the box, but Chenie with Whynter’s customer support team was very helpful in attempting to troubleshoot what was wrong and then sending out a replacement when the first unit couldn’t be fixed. The replacement works fine; the front glass has been collecting a lot of condensation in the summer humidity but I was able to solve that by sealing it off with a standard window insulation kit. It does make some standard fridge noises though I don’t find them to be unusually loud for a fridge; if you find low-level industrial hums annoying and don’t have an out of the way place to keep it, it may not be ideal.

    Works well for Dry Aging

EDIT: I had previous reviewed this as 2-stars because the one I’d received had been a return with missing parts, and damaged. After returning that one, I couldn’t find another beverage refrigerator that had the same capabilities, I gave it another chance. The second one was new. This refrigerator had the ability to keep the air inside cold, very cold. I often read temperatures of 33 on a 37 degree setting. I made similar changes another reviewer made by adding a drain tube to the drain pan to help with the amount of water drainage. I added 2 120mm fans with their 22g power wires cut and fished through the drain hole. I have 1 fan on the top rack and one on the floor of the case. This fridge gets 4 stars because it’s not as quiet as I expected, and my experience with the first fridge. It’s not horribly loud like others have said, but it’s not silent, but the nearest refigerator that would match this capabilities is more than 2x the price or even 3-6x if you buy a name brand.

Started put great, 3 months in tho- Terrible

I was so excited to be getting a place to store various beers I loved from local breweries, the first few months were wonderful, no issues with the fridge whatsoever. After a few months of the fridge being about 75% full of cans and a few bottles, the back inside of the fridge near the fan began to ice up. I unplugged the fridge and allowed it to thaw over night. This worked the first time without any further issues. The fridge froze over again just a few weeks later, leading me to defrost it overnight- again. The further troubles started occurring after this, the fridge began to whine extremely loud around the fan whenever it began to turn itself on to cool. It would not stop whining until it got back to temperature.I have tried to leave it unplugged a few times, but each time I plug it back in, that awful whine in the fan starts up immediately so at this point the fridge is unusable in my apartment.

    Nice fridge, a little noisy

Decent fridge that looks good. Holds plenty of cans and seems to keep everything cold (although top shelf does seem less cool than the bottom). A little bit noisy, nothing crazy but definitely noticeable at times if the room is generally quiet.

    1 happy Gramps

The whole family bought a summer house together. 8 of us. Nana and Gramps live there from spring to fall the rest of us come and go. Some times staying a month or just a weekend. Gramps appointed him self in charge. He has mostly complete control of the remote and the kitchen. With the 6 of us and kids and grandkids it can get a little crazy but oh my gosh mess with the refrigerator. Gramps likes an empty fridge. Nothing in the way of anything. Well we all have wine, beer, gatoraid, ice tea, milk, half and half, seltzer water soda. I saw this, no freezer, lots of space, fits under counter, keeps everything cold, has a light, But mostly it keeps Gramps from being grumpy. He can truly make everyone’s life miserable. So I ordered it. Can’t beat it. They even delivered right to kitchen door. Even Nana thinks it looks great and her life becomes much easier.

    Not reliable

Purchased the unit in March 2021, it made some noise a couple of months ago for a moment while I was near the unit and then stopped. Today I grabbed a drink and when the door gently closed it started making a racket from the top of the unit where the fan is located. The unit also ices over on occasion, the two issues might be related. Wished I had bought the protection plan.

Updated review: Arrived damaged but new one GREAT!

Update: our second unit arrived and it was in perfect condition. The refund was very simple and prompt. We only waited a few days to get the next unit and UPS came to our house and picked up the other unit, so that was not a hassle. We’ve been using the fridge for almost a week and everything seems to be working great! I would definitely purchase again. Our unit arrived damaged. We forgot to take pictures before we packed it up for return, but the bottom corner of the door was bent and the stainless steel was sticking out so it was very sharp. It seemed to damage the whole door as where the stainless steel aligns at the top this was also sticking up and very sharp. The outside box was a bit crushed on that side but the internal box seem fine however the plastic corner pieces which protect the corners of the units were missing on that side of the box as well so this could’ve had something to do with the damage. We will update our review once the return process is completed and we have another unit. Hoping this one arrives with no damage and no issues.

    Great little drink fridge!

This is a very nice drink fridge. It is the perfect size, quiet, and works very well. Now it isn’t going to keep your drinks at 34 degrees, but I use it for craft beer and don’t want it that cold anyway. There are only two things I would change about it.1. The shelves are fixed or nothing. This is a problem for housing bombers. They lay down fine. but I had to remove a couple of shelves to make it work. If they were adjustable, it would be perfect!2. The lock is pretty simple. It just latches at the bottom and the door can still be cracked open. If someone does that, then obviously the cold isn’t going to stay inside. Also, if you remove the hinges, you could lift the door right off and get inside. I ended up purchasing a mountable lock to prevent this from happening so that now even if you take off the hinges, the door will not come off. It would be better if the locking mechanism was a bit more robust.Otherwise, this works perfectly for what I need it to do!

    A little frustrating

The fridge has some issues. First, it can get quite loud at times. Sometimes it makes a really loud clicking noise like an ice machine would make when it drops ice. It has scared me more than once. Second is that if you have it full, ice definitely builds up on the back wall. I can’t keep it full and I can’t keep beers on the back or they get too cold. I don’t think I would buy it again but I also don’t know if any other options would be better.

    Great fridge but terrible lock

The fridge its self is amazing, has great temp control (27F on the coldest setting) but the lock and key is pretty bad. The key almost looks like an Allen wrench with one less side so anyone with some mechanical know how would be able to replicate the key just by looking at it. While the fridge is locked you can still open the fridge but just a crack because of the latch system they have. The reason this is bad is because if you have children trying to open it they rarely close the fridge which lets out all the cool air. The lock does do its job however and preventing those from getting into it so I won’t be too harsh on the overall rating.Haven’t had any issues. Just keep sitting for 4 hours as recommended and give proper space so the compressor can get some air flow and you should be in good hands!

    Works as expected.

Received the product from shipper and there was some box damage but no damage to the cooler. Was easy to get set up using a dolly to locate as it was a bit heavy and difficult to carry. Once it was in place everything seemed to work and it took about 12 hours to get to 40 degrees. Noticed that the thermostat is up at the light which might make getting to temp may take longer. The unit is quiet with a running water sound could be annoying if sitting close. Filled with a bunch of cans and had ice build up probably from condensate but was not a problem. Also noticed that air flow is from top to bottom so we tried to keep the first 2 shelves open in the middle and it seem to cool and keep temp better. The light is cool but again keeping the upper 2 shelves open the light can illuminate the whole.

Cold, gorgeous and full of beer!

Researched this for awhile. Looked at numerous units and settled on this one. Received this last Thursday. After reading about a lot of fridges getting damaged in transit, I was happy to see this was packed to the gills. Double boxed, corner braces and supports on all four sides. Perfect condition. Let it sit right side up for 24 hours just in case. Plugged it in, and it cooled down pretty quickly. Pretty flexible shelving situation. (I’m only using 3 since I want more room for growlers.) I have various sizes in there to show the sizes possible. It’s deep enough for 5 bottles. The racks are designed with the metal shelving close together, so nothing falls over. In addition to the racks pictured, we have two more full sized shelves, and one half shelf that goes on the bottom to form a full shelf with that little black ledge. Exterior is a glossy black finish, door is stainless steel. Temperature is very consistent. Love the control panel. Interior light works well, but I haven’t packed it full yet, so I assume it’ll be tricky when it’s full. The fan runs constantly which is great, but could be noisy if it’s in a room like a home theatre. We have it in our video game room and it’s no louder than a regular fridge. Fan runs around 43-45 dB (listed as babbling brook or computer online) When the compressor kicks in, it bumps it up to around 55 dB. Again, noticeable for sure, but not obnoxious. Overall, I’m very happy. Keeps our drinks cold, looks classy. Have wanted one for awhile, and it was worth the wait and slightly higher cost.

    Initial problems with noise

Update: I took all the shelves out and inspected the circulation fan. The blades were out of place and rubbing on the housing. I couldn’t get to the fan itself without taking the whole refrigerator apart because the housing is a solid piece of molded plastic. Two good raps with a rubber mallet backed the fan blades up the shaft where they should be and it’s quiet as a church mouse. There is airflow present, so everything is working. I’m going to give it another couple of stars unless it conks out or starts making noise again. It looks nice, but it sounds like a lawn mower. The circulation fan is so loud it’s hard to watch a movie in the entertainment room where I put the fridge. I downloaded the manual just to see if there was anything I could do to fix it, and if you turn to page 8 there’s a whole page dedicated to noise. It basically reads: “Our refrigerator is not loud. We’ve heard other refrigerators that were louder. Other people don’t think it’s loud. Maybe it’s a you problem.” Given that, I doubt there’s anything the company will do. I guess I’m just out $300 because this thing is going immediately in the trash.

Warranty Support = Garbage can on fire

First, I love this fridge. The size is perfect, it looks fantastic and it runs pretty well with a few issues.Issue 1: Amazon shipped the product upside down (which you don’t want to do)Issue 2: It is incredibly loudIssue 1 was huge, Amazon brought it up upside down, which means we have to keep it upright for a recommended “48 hours”. This is because the oil from the compressor will leak through the compressor pistons and go up the same tubes that the refrigerant goes through. Since oil doesn’t compress, this can cause issues with getting oil stuck in the system. Also if you don’t let it sit, the compressor will not have oil to lubricate the pistons and seals, which can cause issues such as back pressure on the high side and force coolant back.Issue 2 I’m assuming this stems from issue 1, but the fridge is quite loud. Making gurgling and wind noises (not compressor/fan humming/buzzing which would be fine and is normal during operation). After contacting Amazon, they can’t take it back because I didn’t have the box and I’m not paying for another box to ship back a defective product, fine this is normal and I don’t give them too much crap for it. But here is the real kicker.I submitted a claim through their website and even talked with someone on the phone about it. They all say this is 100% normal during operation. Which is not. I have had an appliance repair company tell me this is not normal, but the company keeps telling me the same thing “keep it 5 inches away on all sides”, etc… So I did, and the company is not very quick to respond (I understand, pandemic), but telling me it is normal is the bigger issue at hand. Now I’m stuck with a fridge that is not operating normally AND I can not return (since I’m not going to go out and get a box to return it, and Amazon will not provide me the materials to do so). This is 100% the last time I order an important appliance from Amazon, and will be shopping locally for these things from now on.

Modern and bang for your buck!

I love the glass door and the stainless look with the long door handle. The blue light is a nice touch for a modern look. It was easy to setup, but not sure where the drip tray needs to go, looked in the booklet and it was not specified. She does make a few noises here and there, but for the price vs a $1,500 one… she has one job and that’s to keep my drinks cold and that’s all that matters. I’m not independently wealthy so it’s worth it!!!

    Great alternative to 2nd fridge

I needed something to keep beverages in for easy access near the deck. I gave it 4 stars because it is difficult to regulate to temp- had several cans burst as the temp was set too low but then when turned up – the beverages seemed to be just okay temp-no a crisp-cold. It does build up condensation in the bottom tray. Overall, pleased with this purchase for the price point.

Cold drinks, slightly louder than expected

We used this as a temporary refrigerator while we were waiting for repair parts (which were several months on backorder at the time). Now we use it for drinks. It’s a bit louder than I expected for such a small unit, but it’s not bad. Style is good, though I wished it had a door sensor for the interior light (the light is either on all the time, or off all the time). With food, we had some issues with it frosting up behind the lowest shelf and then thawing onto the floor. With drinks, that hasn’t been an issue. That may have to do with the number of times we were opening and closing it.

Nice fridge, but spacing for the racks is a little goofy

It’s a nice fridge, and looks really cool. But, if you’re like me and drink beer that comes in various sizes, the spacing of the racks is a little goofy and makes for a lot of wasted space. It comes with 5 racks, but with the spacing you can really only use 3 if you want the bottles/cans vertically. If you want bottled beer it can really only fit on the top shelf which kind of throws off the other shelving. Unless you lay the beer on its side, then obviously you have no issues, but if you want the beer “displayed” vertically you can really only set up the racks like I have them in the picture.

First of let me start off with how nice this Beveridge Cooler looks. We searched multiple stores and this is one of the best looking we found in the price range. It also seems to do a great job keeping drinks at the desired temperature. Now on to the dislikes1) It is fairly loud. Has a constant low humming sound. Not a big deal for my installation in a bar next to a home theater that will drawn out any small noise. But I could see it being an issue in a living room or being placed next to a seating area.2) The inside lighting is great, illuminates the interior well and looks cool from the outside. However, it’s turned on or off by the button not by opening the door. I’d like to not have it on constantly, but would also like to be able to see inside the fridge when I’m grabbing a drink. There should be a setting for only on when the door is open.

    Massive soda capacity!

What impressed me most about this fridge is just how many sodas you can cram into it. I put in two cases of soda and had room for at least two more. It can quickly chill the sodas too. In fact, the cooling can be so fast, that I had to monitor the temperature the first few times I loaded it up.A couple of small concerns:1. The air flow seems to cool sodas on the bottom half of the fridge faster than sodas in the top half.2. The shelves have a tiny bit of give to them. If you’re loading up sodas to the edge of the shelf, be prepared for some to fall out.3. The fridge light kinda blocks out the temperature setting. I found myself looking for flashlight just to see the setting.I’d recommend monitoring the temperature with a gauge until you get used to this fridge.Overall, I’m a happy camper. Any fridge that can take on two, three, or four cases of soda is alright!

A Decent Product for the Price; Reasonable Customer Service and Warranty Replacement

The first unit we had lasted from May 2021 until October 2021 with no problems then in November 2021 it slowly stopped cooling. I ran through the manual troubleshooting without any improvement. I then I contacted the manufacturer for the warranty. After several back-and-forth messages and delays due to setting up the return shipping and missed emails (they got sent to my spam folder) a new unit was shipped a few months later. Allie with Whynter was helpful. We’ve had the replacement running fine from March 2022 until December of 2022 without any significant problems. If you fill the fridge to capacity there is a tendency for drinks setting on the lowest shelf to freeze in the back. We avoid that by taking out the lowest shelf, which is shortened by the compressor, and only putting tall beverages in the bottom front. My teenager was able to jimmy the lock open, but otherwise, we are satisfied.

    Honest Broker

The media could not be loaded.

After reading reviews after reviews I was sitting at around a 30% chance of purchasing this refrigerator. There were many more negative reviews than positive ones, and I wasn’t too sure what I should do, listening to the masses about the “loud noise”, the temperament of the cooling system, or the glass fogging I didn’t want to purchase this item. The one thing that pushed me to place the order was FOMO, the price was to good to pass up and paying double the price elsewhere didn’t sit right. I’m glad I purchased this item because it looks great, is extremely cold- even at mid temperature, the glass does not fog and the so-called noise, I hardly hear it. Also, the item came sooner than I expected in three days, properly secured in a sturdy and secured box, with no damage or scratches. I’m glad I didn’t listen to the nay-sayers and went with my gut!

    This is the one!

Full disclosure; I bought mine after someone else returned it, not sure why they did, don’t care, but it saved me a few bucks and any irritation I had because I had to buy my own screws for the door handle–is long gone after experiencing this fridge’s performance. This mini-fridge is upscale in appearance, but more importantly (and my bottom line)–cools to right at freezing at its highest setting (7), and yes, if you want your cans and bottles frosty, even to the point of a bit of ice in your liquid, this one gets it there! If you want it “less cool”, there’s plenty of room for adjustment, but for me–ice cold is the goal and this one delivers. Many other beverage coolers (freezerless) in here were probably originally for wine, cooling only to around 40° and those companies just changed up the shelves and called it “beverage cooler”. Not this one! It holds A LOT of bottles and/or cans and the adjustable wire shelves arrage easily for whatever you want, and goes below just “chilled”–to right about freezing, without actually freezing solid. It’s quiet enough for bedside too (5-stars on my particular unit in that and every category). In a word, I call this one PERFECT. No need to choose another.

    Bar fridge

I needed a refrigerator with a reversible door becouse of the location in my home bar. Door is reversible, only issue is that manufacturers emblem winds up upside down which is easily moved because its stuck on with double sided adhesive. Door seals like it should after reversing door. Put refrigerator on it’s back and center door before tightening hinge bolts and you will have no problem with door seal. Only con is that it will make a little noise at times, but nothing disturbing. Other than that it gets cold quick, almost too cold I had to dial it back becouse it was to cold. The racks for the cans are sturdy, and dont sag when loaded, also the handle on the door, not only looks good but is handy when opening the door becouse it seals quite well. Overall I’m happy with my purchase and would buy again.

Rather disappointing- even at a low price point

This fridge is rather disappointing. It doesn’t really hold temperature consistently, and it builds up a ton of humidity on the inside and outside. When I turn the temperature all the way cold (which is required for a decent temperature) it fogs up the entire inside of the fridge. Also wish i had bought one with an automatic light.

    Nice beer coolers!

These units work great. I installed two side by side and built into a bar unit by flipping a door on one of the units. They look like one larger cooler and much more expensive unit. They do great job in keeping beer and soda cold for the bar. I would recommend this unit. It does hold a lot of beverages and keeps them all as cold as you want. I found that if you put cans on top shelf, be sure to leave room in center of all of the shelves so the fan can circulate the cold air from top to bottom of unit. I tried several different loading options to find the one that let the air flow evenly. I found that if you pack the top shelf without leaving any room for air flow, the top cans were very cold and leaving a bit of air space helps cool the lower shelves. The cooling elements are behind the plastic in the bottom of the unit, and if you pack the cans against each other tightly on the bottom, they transmit the cold much better than leaving room between the element and cans. Overall, the units do a great job in keeping everything cold. I ordered two separate units as I can adjust temperatures to suit what is in them. Wine can be a little warmer than say beer and water- so I just load and adjust temperature to suit what is in it. The units have a heavy glass door that does a good job in keeping the cold in. The led lighting adds a nice look when lit. They are on switches and do not automatically turn on when opening the door. You must manually turn them on or off. So far, the units have performed flawlessly, and are fairly quiet. They were packaged well, with very heavy cardboard boxes and arrived free of any damage. These seem to be of good quality and we will see how they hold up. Doors very easy to change direction, and handles are heavy and of good quality. I have received many complements on these coolers. I believe it is a better solution to have the two units as you can better control the temperatures. When mounted in a cabinet, they look like one large unit. Can not beat the price for what you get. I will update if any issues crop up. So far very nice!

For those who want to dry age beef

After extensive online research trying to find the perfect beverage refrigerator for dry aging beef, this one appears to work really well. Most glass door beverage refrigerators do not get cold enough or hold temperature steady enough to dry-age beef successfully. This one will hold temperature in the low-to-mid 30s, with the exception of its defrost cycle that it runs automatically every few days. During the defrost cycle, I have not seen the temperature rise above 40°.You do need to add a thermoworks refrigerator / freezer thermometer with a wired probe so you can accurately measure the temperature, and record highs and lows. I think the best temperature range for dry aging beef seems to be between 34 and 36 degrees average temperature. I recommend placing the thermoworks temperature probe into a glass of water covered with cling wrap so you don’t get rapid fluctuations in temperature, but rather track the temperature of something with more thermal mass, much like having a thermometer probe in the center of your dry aging meat. Tracking air temperature in a refrigerator will not give you as accurate of a picture of the average temperature. The thermoworks model that I’m speaking of can be purchased on their website for approximately $25, and the probe wire is so thin / low profile that it can be ran under the door seal without creating an air gap. This refrigerator can be a bit noisy when the compressor is running, but I was able to quiet it down by finding one of the copper cooling lines near the compressor that when firmly gripped resulted in decreased noise. I wrapped this line with a large mass of plumber’s putty, which acts as a nice noise damper. When you are dry aging meat, and I’ve been able to fit approximately 50 lb of bone in ribeye on the provided racks, there is a substantial amount of moisture that you are removing from the meat, which condenses and freezes on the cooling mat in the back of the refrigerator. This refrigerator does an excellent job of defrosting itself every couple of days, and the water from the melted ice runs through a tiny drain into a reservoir that sits immediately above the compressor. I modified mine with a small length of flexible clear plastic tubing, cut a notch in the side of the reservoir’s built in corner overflow spout so that the water level would start spilling over earlier, and glued the plastic tubing into the bottom of the overflow spout and ran the other end into a small plastic container to catch the excess water. It works like a charm. I am certain that if you don’t do this modification, and dry age substantial amounts of meat, the amount of ice that will form on the cooling mat and ultimately melt during the defrost cycle will overwhelm the small reservoir, and you will end up with water on the floor. It is an easily fixed problem, but I don’t consider it a flaw given that I’m using this fridge for something other than its intended purpose. If you were just refrigerating beverages, there would be nowhere near as much ice build up, and the reservoir would suffice. The other necessary modification is to add a small electronics / PC cooling fan that sits on the back of the top rack and runs continuously to provide air circulation and appropriate drying of the meat. All I did was find one on Amazon for about $25, cut the power cord near the plug end, and ran the power cord through the small defrost drain in the back of the fridge, which exits immediately above the reservoir previously mentioned. The wire runs laterally over the side of this reservoir, and does not interfere with the function of the drain. I then simply rewired the plug to the cord once it was passed through the drain, using wire nuts and electrical tape. This fan runs continuously and provides the necessary air movement for dry aging. While the refrigerator does have a built-in fan near the light, I don’t believe it runs continuously, and likely does not provide enough airflow on its own.Considering that the most basic purpose-built dry aging fridges cost around $1500, this is a much more cost effective method for small scale home use. I personally do not think that built in humidity control or a UV light will make any substantial difference in the quality of dry aged meat in the 30 to 60 day range, and are mainly gimmicks that are used to make you think that the purpose built units are worth exorbitant prices. Salt blocks are also essentially pointless, but they won’t hurt, so go for it if it makes you feel better. I am a physician with a background in microbiology before I went to medical school, so I’m not just making uninformed statements.Dry aging can be done successfully at home with great results. Buy choice or prime grade ribeye primals, preferably bone-in with lots of remaining outer fat, at least 10 pounds each, place directly on the wire racks in this dedicated fridge, monitor the temperature, provide constant air flow, and be patient. 45 days is the sweet spot. Anything less than 30 days will not be worth your time. Over 60 gets too strong of a flavor for most people. Trim off the dried outer pellicle and enjoy.Cheers!

Updated, Looks great but is a little noisy

Plusses are 1. Front handle ( this was a must for me and hard to find) 2. 34° temp I like my beer and drinks cold 3. AffordableMinuses are only 1. The noise I have 3 beverage coolers and they all make a little noise and this one is similar except in addition to the normal cooling and defrosting noise this one makes a whistling wind noise that would remind you of having a door cracked during high winds. I seen the reviews that said noise was a problem but thought they were exaggerated. Besides the noise it looks great and functions just like advertised ( is truly 34° ) I chose this one for 3 reasons the handle, the coldness, and the affordability. It does not disappoint on those features. Note : as you can see I am using this as a built in when it is designed to be a stand alone. I’ve done this before in my basement bar with no problems. As you can see in the picture I have wine racks on the side that are open in the back that act as venting and there is 8″ clearance at rear of cooler. This of course voids the warranty but but if you want a 34° cooler and the built in look at 1/3 the price it’s not a bad option After 3 months of being used the unit started making a really loud noise and felt warmer than normal on the sides. We shut down the unit and let it cool. Once it was cool I plugged it back in and noticed the loud noise was coming from the top of the unit where a fan is that circulates the cold air. It sounded like the fan blades were coming in contact with something. Before I took off the fan housing I just wacked the top of the unit with my hand and it suddenly quit making the noise. The unit is now much quieter than before and comparable to the noise made by different brands ( I have 2 other brands)

Product is good, proper customer support (drip tray was broken, they sent me a new part)

Full disclosure: I’m a mechanical engineer and I used to work at a refrigerator compressor manufacturing plant around 13 years ago. That doesn’t make me an expert, but I won’t address anything I don’t have enough understanding of here.Construction/quality:The fridge itself is good. The handle is firm once installed, and I didn’t notice any wobbles or anything unusual after I put it on the floor and adjusted its feet. Insulation could be a bit better, as you’re able to notice the top and sides are colder after the unit has been on for a few hours. This is, however, a common difficulty with small refrigerators: to improve insulation you need to make the walls thicker, either losing internal space or making the unit larger, so there’s an optimal point between insulation/wall thickness and heat losses. If you look at your kitchen refrigerator you’ll notice its walls are quite thicker. Finally, the manual mentions that the control panel would lock itself after 2 minutes of inactivity, after which you’d need to press both temperature up & down buttons for 5 seconds to unlock it – well, that hasn’t happened, and I don’t know if there’s a way to lock the controls (which are on the outside of the glass door), so I guess I’ll just have to hope my kids don’t mess around with it…Temperature:When the unit was plugged in for the first time it didn’t take long for it to reach its lowest setpoint (34F) empty. A few hours after that, I loaded it with around 45 soda cans at room temperature, and it worked overnight and the good part of the following morning to cool those down to its lowest setpoint, which is expected given that it uses a small compressor. If you want it to work faster it’s definitely best to put cans in the kitchen fridge overnight before moving them to this unit already cold. Another point worth mentioning is that the condenser (which is what dumps the heat from inside the fridge into the room it’s located in) sits just beneath the external side walls (noticeable because those get warm when the compressor is running), so if you mount the unit where air flow is restricted, it will not operate as efficiently or get as cold as it’s designed to.I’ve had some time to run a couple of thermometers in the unit. Unfortunately, their accuracy is abysmal and I cannot trust the actual temperature they’re displaying. One is showing 12F right now, which is simply absurd, the other is much closer to reality – more on that below. However, for measuring the temperature variation, this second one is good enough. It’s measuring a 6F min/max variation over the course of several days. Honestly, that’s not bad for a beverage refrigerator. It doesn’t mean the items you put in there will have their actual temperature vary by that much, it just means that the air inside the fridge is varying 6F – and take that with a grain of salt also, because there are several other variables to be taken into account here. Remember that it takes a while to cool something down, but it also takes a while for it to warm back up again, so you can expect the temperature of, say, a soda can to vary by approximately 2F. That’s quite good! To check how cold my beverages actually got, I allowed everything to stabilize over the course of a few days, and then I took a water bottle, opened it, and measured the temperature using a meat thermometer that had just been calibrated with ice water – meaning it can measure things at or close to 32F very well. It measured 34F.Noise:I saw some reviewers complaining about noise, so I was concerned about that. Noise is subjective, so your mileage may vary. I have it in my office about 5 feet away from me, and while it doesn’t bother me during my work day, I would definitely not have this unit in or near my bedroom at night, because it would bother me a lot. For reference, my bedroom sits next to the kitchen, and I don’t hear my kitchen fridge because that one is actually silent. One thing to note is that I saw some reviewers mention that the internal fan made noise, but mine is truly silent; it seems to operate all the time and I don’t hear it at all. The compressor and associated coolant flow are the main sources of noise, and if you want those to be more silent while also having a fridge that gets very close to 34F, you need to look for a name brand and pay maybe 3 times more than this, while still having the risk that it’ll use a similar (likely cheap) compressor.Drip tray:The only issue I had so far is that the drip tray came broken and completely loose from the unit, which is why I initially rated the unit with 3 stars, but later changed it to 5 once they sent me a new drip tray. Further below I’ll describe what a drip tray is, but for now what matters is that I opened a support ticket directly with Whynter using their website and they sent me a new drip tray. Interestingly, the new drip tray had a different shape, which seemed to match my compressor a bit better…so perhaps the original (broken) drip tray was an incorrect part? I don’t know. It’s fixed, they sent me a new drip tray fast, and that’s what matters. Here’s what a drip tray is: remember when you had to periodically remove all the stuff from your refrigerator and allow the internal evaporator (the thing at the back with all the tubes) to defrost? Well, a lot of people today don’t even know that this used to be a thing because they came up with “frost-free” refrigerators. What almost no one knows, however, is that frost-free refrigerators still accumulate ice on their evaporators (which are now hidden away in large refrigerators), but there’s normally a mechanism to melt the ice every so often, which will then drip out of the fridge and onto the drip tray. This drip tray stays right on top of the compressor because it takes advantage of the fact that the compressor gets hot when it’s running, so it allows the water to evaporate away quite fast. The automatic defrosting method varies a lot, from a dedicated heating element, to allowing the evaporator to get a bit warmer (or less cold) from time to time so that ice can melt away on its own, to not doing anything and allowing some ice to still form depending on the temperature setpoint. I don’t know which method, if any, this unit uses, so I won’t be surprised if I see some minor ice buildup over the next few months, because I’m running it at its lowest temperature setpoint. Easiest way to deal with that is to raise the temperature setpoint for a few days (i.e., when going on vacation), which won’t be an issue for a beverage refrigerator.Well, that’s all I had. Quite a long one, but I hope it helps someone.

Do not buy this refrigerator. The middle rows freeze and are unusable.

Unfortunately I did not realize until it was too late to return that this refrigerator does not circulate temperatures well and the 2-3 rows in the middle freeze everything. At first I had the temperature as cold as possible but no matter how low I put it, the freezing of items still persists because the unit is a terrible design. Absolutely do not purchase this product even though the price point is attractive.

Great little fridge except for one thing…

Overall, the value for this fridge is great. Got it on Prime and the finish is nice. This would easily be a 5 star based on value, but one minor thing that has me wondering if I purchased a product that was too good to be true (price wise).I let it sit for 48hrs before plugging it in and when I did populate it with my drinks, I would hear some weird motor noise when the fridge/compressor running. Now, it’s not a loud noise, but I have this set up in my family room and I watch TV late at night with the volume low. I can hear it and it’s kid of annoying. Granted that if you have a normal sound level in the room, no one will notice but when alone and watching TV on low volume, the sound is enough to make you want to turn the fridge off. That’s my only gripe but otherwise, it’s been good so far (have had it for 2 weeks since this review)

    Outstanding experience with customer service

A little over a year after I bought this fridge, it began to leak oil from the compressor. I contacted customer support and explained the situation. Rowena with Whynter was incredibly helpful and great at maintaining communication with me throughout the claim process. She was able to resolve the issue and I was sent a replacement unit. The new fridge works well (like it did the first time around) and I’m hopeful my first experience was a one off manufacturing defect, and that this one will last. Overall, I’m super content with the customer help I received and happy with the new unit.

Solid Option for Dry Aging Beef

I use this sucker to dry age beef. Rather than spend $5K on a dedicated “Dry Ager” I just got this guy, a small fan, and a temp/humidifier reader.Temp does move around a bit, and/but has generally stayed between the range of 34 and 39. It has gone above that only once due to a defrost cycle I assume. But I’ve got it stabilized at 35-36 about 80% of the time.Humidity is LOW, people. That generally doesn’t affect the quality of the dry aging, you just lose more meat. Welp, humidity ranges from 0 to 60%. And one wants it to be 50 to 75 for dry aging. Is seems to hover between 20 and 40% most of the time, and I’d only know bc I bought a freestanding humidity reader.Looks pretty snazzy and is quiet.Good deal, and dry ages tenderly.

    Great small beverage cooler

I took risk to buy this as “opened box” item from Amazon for really good price under $200. Item arrived while I was on vacation but my son brought it sit in the garage. I came back and checked on the unit, it is brand new and not make loud noise like other comments. I have it for a week already the only few things I do not like is a tray for dripping water on the of the motor is not stay in place and the temperature control is not digital and look cheap. Overall is perfect!UPDATED 4/11/23 – A cooler still working great except it is too cold to have ice freeze build up on the shelf that has a drain hole. I need to remove ices out one or twice a week, other than that; everything is still perfect!

    Awesome unit with great service

First, I want to express that although there were issues with the unit that Amazon did not want to address, Whynter customer service (Chenie) handled it exceptionally well. The unit came from Amazon with severe damage and the door would not shut. There were also extensive dents all along the unit. After a short communication run with Chenie, approximately two weeks later a brand new unit was sitting at my home!!The unit itself is flawless and has been a great addition to our needs. If you’re reading this and unsure how cold it gets, be careful with the adjustments because this unit will freeze cans and they will explode inside it (ask me how I know ;))

    POORLY DESIGNED!!!!!!!!!!!!

The light does NOT come on when you open the door (you have to turn it on via the interior switch). Take a good look at the PICTURE before you buy!!!! The picture shows exactly how you have to install the shelves to get maximum storage. This is the first fridge I have had that has very few shelves to fit 12oz. cans standing up. Again, look at the picture and make sure you are okay with stacking the cans like that because they will NOT stand up on most of the shelves ( the shelves where they will stand up waste valuable space). I would NOT buy this again. I have purchased mini fridges with better stand up 12oz. storage for much less.GOOD LUCK

    Best bang for your buck!

I love the cool blue LED light, circulating fan, The digital controls. The best feature is the digital temperature control is easy to set and once you said it it toggles to actual temperature reading & seems very accurate. We have a Home bar & I purchase this for beer and want it cold. I purchased my first unit at Sam’s Club got it back and realized it only keeps the beverages at around 40° I purchase this one second and love it. The controls are easily reached and readable. Made the mistake of ordering a other brand unit trying to save a little bit of money (yes I have three beverage coolers ) it claim to chill to 34° also but not nothing like as nice as this Whynter. Their controls are recessed hard to reach you can’t read the settings and it doesn’t give you real time temperature. This Whynter unit compares to some $800-$1000 units as far as features, very pleased with the Whynter!

We’ve been using this under our kitchen island as a drink fridge for a while, and overall it’s great. Fits so much and is quiet!

We have one for us and we just gifted one to family! So handy for converting a trash compactor into something handy in your kitchen to hold all fun beverages, keeping your main fridge more spacious! Also great for a basement or living room where you hang out a lot for friends or teens! Over time (2 years) the temp has increased from 39 degrees to 43 degrees but that is still keeping all fun drinks fun and cold. Can’t emphasize enough how spacious this is! We have it set up for cans on top shelf, cans on middle shelf and individual water bottles laying down on the bottom all stacked up. It holds 18 water bottles just on the bottom and the shelves hold so much. Very deep!!! Love the blue lighting at night too (which I believe you can turn off if you don’t want additional illumination in a space). Highly recommend!!

    Loud, noisy, annoying, loud

Loudest fridge I have ever heard. Makes so many weird noises. I have pulled the thing out like five times to make sure it isnt leaking because it sounds like a babbling brook back there. If you dont care about the noise, it looks cool and stuff fits in it well. Easy to view everything. Did I mention it is noisy?
