Strong cutters
I use these for pruning but also for cutting through joints of poultry when dismembering a chicken or turkey or duck. They are great bone crackers as well as garden shears. As someone else noted, they get dull too quickly, this is my third pair in 4 years.

Always worth the money – just wish it was easier to re-sharpen them. I use them on larger limbs I probably shouldn’t… my fault, not theirs! Great product line overall.

Fiskars
This is the time to get a brand name. Fiskars is great because you know that whatever the tool is, it’s going to be top quality and work well. Very sturdy and makes pruning easier on your hands. I am glad I didn’t cheap out on these pruners and the Fiskars were not that much of a premium. Well worth it.

Easy not to lose
My main problem is that I lose my clippers all the time. I have been looking for some that are sturdy enough to cut branches yet comfortable to use and do the job without having to put any efforts. These clippers fit right into my hand, are easy to manipulate and do a GREAT job at cutting branches. A great buy!

Good for the appropriate width of branches etc.
Perfect for smaller hedges and branches, don’t try to overdo it and cut larger than these are meant to handle. But these are great quality for trimming and maintenance. We use them for trees, hedges and cutting up tomato vines and corn stocks when the harvest is over.

Caveat Emptor
For the most part, Fiskars products do what they advertise – IF one is fortunate to get a tool that is made correctly (see others’ reviews) – but they are in no means a substitute for, neither are they comparable to, higher end pruners, which I also own. To my knowledge Fiskars does not proport themselves to be in the same echelon as someone like Felco, but as a company who also manufactures hand pruners, they are still in competition with them and thus deserve to be judged in likeness. For those who do not wish to spend so much for a pruner, Fiskars is as good as any other cheap hand pruner on the market and performs in much the same way. If it works for you and you’re happy with it, then that’s all that matters. If you do the amount of gardening and yard work I do, then you can understand the need for higher quality tools than Fiskars has unfortunately become.I got this Fiskars pruner out of desperation. I’ve had my uses with it and still have it in my possession although I do not use it like I use my expensive pruners. I keep the Fiskars around only for occasional pruning of anything I see growing in my yard where I’m uncertain if it carries a disease and don’t want to inadvertently contaminate my higher end tools. So for that alone this pruner earns its place in my collection, though Fiskars are not my preference to buy when it comes to hand pruners for the simple fact they’re o.k. but not the best either. They are sufficient for doing light to medium, infrequent pruning jobs but lack the ergonomics and durability to support heavier, long term usage. This Fiskars pruner is a spring loaded type and locks closed with an “easy lock” mechanism. Thus far mine has worked but it is made of plastic and as most of us know it will fail at some point rendering this pruner unsafe to use. The blade has handled cutting small twigs, branches, and green or woody stems up to 5/8″ thick, though I’ve succeeded in cutting things up to 1″ with no issues. This is where this pruner earns its stars. Cuts are predominantly clean but some can also be ragged most likely due to technique, the hardness/softness of the stem/branch being cut, or the blade needing to be sharpened. Tool is very easy to clean & nothing has stuck to the blade. No rust nor nicks on the blade yet but there is some starting on the body despite being well maintained like my other tools. Pruner is light and compact enough to carry but is a bit too small for my preference. It feels “off” in my hand. I have to grip my hand tighter than normal around the handle because it is unusually square shaped towards the ends, not the ubiquitous round or concave shape, and covered with a surprisingly thin, cheap feeling sandy rubber coating which makes it feel hard and awkward in my hand, not ergonomic at all – issues that make using this pruner uncomfortable after awhile even with gloves on.I’ve bought a lot of gardening implements from Amazon over the years but did not leave reviews for such as I always put each tool/item into practice first before commenting. Sometimes that can take months/years before I can garner an accurate synopsis as not every tool/item gets used frquently enough by me to be able to offer a fair assessment. I craft my reviews based on the criteria I look for when evaluating whether to purchase something or not and try to convey the points I feel are important to others when making such decisions.I am not employed by, nor am I a schill, neither did I receive compensation from any company mentioned. I’m merely another consumer who has been gardening for almost 50 years & am trying to help others make educated decisions in their purchases. There have been many complaints against Fiskars’ garden hand tools over the years but also many accolades as well. Exercise due diligence and choose what’s best for you and your needs.

Strong and easy to use
Having a good pair of pocket size pruners is imperative while performing annual trimming. I like these pruners as they are affordable and well made. I seem to have a talent for losing pruners. I prefer not to buy the more expensive models for that reason. These work well, and can be replaced easily.

Very good pruners
The Fiskars pruners work very well and are easy on the hand, although the lock is a little clumsy to use it does lock the blades. So far the pruner cuts very well without applying too much pressure.

Clean smooth precise cuts, sharp!
This is one amazing little pruning shear. It is sharp, easy to lock/open and maneuver and makes pruning small branches a joy. I own several Fiskars shears, and this design is by far the best. I highly recommend this product.

Great Quality – Can Cut Through Christmas Tree Branches!
Bought these last minute to trim some branches on my christmas tree since they did such a horrible job at Home Depot. I was a bit skeptical about these little shears being able to cut through the thicker branches, but they did the job. I was able to cut off branches up to about 1/3 of an inch thick. I love that they lock for safety as well.

> DOES THE JOB
> Just about the perfect pruning shears.> Cuts cleanly through branches up to about 1/2″, albeit that takes a strong grip.> If your grip is weak, or you want to cut thicker branches I suggest short loppers such as
Fiskars 15 Inch PowerGear Super Pruner/Lopper (7972)
or ratcheting pruning shears such as
Power Drive Ratchet Pruning Shears – Ideal Garden Hedge & Tree Clippers – Ratcheting Hand Secateurs and Tree Pruners Provide More Cutting Power Than Conventional Anvil Pruning Hand Tools and Garden Scissors
> For easiest and longest use, keep the blades dry and oiled. WD-40 spray is the easiest method — it not only oils the shears, it also displaces any moisture.> Eventually (years or hundreds of uses) the (top) blade will get loose and the pruner will not cut so well. Just tighten the upper bolt, test, tighten some more, etc. until the blades close tightly, but the blades will still open when you release your grip> CONS: I find only one shortcoming I can find is that there is no easy way to attach a lanyard—so, no easy way to hang the pruning shears from a hook—or with a carabineer from a belt loop.PRUNERS vs LOPPERS> Normally, pruners are best for stems and branches up to ⅜” diameter, and loppers are best for branches greater than ¾” diameter. In between, other consideration come into play.> Pruners are used 1-handed, loppers are used 2-handed. If you need to hold a stem or branch while you cut, or you want to collect the cut stems as you work, a pruner is your best choice. Loppers are less tiring if you are cutting alot of thick stems, particularly if you have a weak grip for some reason. Loppers (particularly extendable handle loppers) give you far more reach, so that you don’t have to bend over, or resort to a ladder. The reach can also help protect you from the thorns of roses, etc.OTHER DESIGN OPTIONS: Unless you have a specific reason to choose another design, pruning shears should be simple and bypass in design. The choices are more complex for loppers.BYPASS vs ANVIL: Bypass pruners are analogous to scissors, with two blades which move past one another. Anvil pruners are analogous to a cleaver and cutting board, with 1 blade and an anvil to which the blade cuts. Bypass pruners usually cut more cleanly with less crushing, which is usually better for the plant. Anvil loppers may not easily cut completely through very fibrous stems. Anvil pruners are less likely to jam and flex, and do not require adjustment.SIMPLE vs COMPOUND, GEARED, or RACHET: Geared, compound, and rachet designs give you more leverage, but that usually is not desirable in pruning shears—but either requiring you to open the shears wider, or squeeze them multiple times to cut through a stem. For small or easily-cut stems, simple pruning shears are easier and less tiring to use.Click on “Stoney” just below the product title to see my reviews of loppers for details on how to choose among lopper designs.

Pretty good, fine for my use, but don’t expect miracles!
I bought these based on the reviews. Fiskars products have almost always pleased me. No exception here – the product works well, and does what it should. However, some of the reviewers I think went a little overboard. I’m a big guy and can easily cut 1/2″ to 5/8″ branches with this. But going larger takes some real effort. So people that talk about 3/4″ cuts are either dreaming, or using two hands with lots of effort. All in all, I think these shears will last longer than I will, and they are easy to clean if you are cutting wood with a lot of sap. Good product!

Fiskars is my ride or die
Fiskars brand of tools are amazing!! I love their brand. I have their rotary cutter, cutting Matt, small hand scissors, their small thread scissors, normal right handed scissors, sewing kit, scissor sharpener, etc. I swear this brand is the best I have never had an issue. So getting this for my fiancé’s mom for Christmas was a WIN because she is also a Fiskars enthusiast.
