Very pleasantly surprised
I was skeptical of this product based on its price, but after using it twice am very happy I did purchase it. I’ve used both duck fat and canola, and both times the unit kept the oil at setpoint with no variation or overshoot, and the oil never smoked. It also produces uniform color and consistency of cook. The frites I cooked at 300° and 375° were perfect—fluffy on the inside and crisp on the outside. I also made chicken katsu, and it does what a fryer should do—create an instant and effective layer of cooked meat that traps moisture and keeps the chicken juicy while completely cooking it.Because the unit does a great job of consistent heating with no overshoot, I was able to filter and reuse the oil (which is great with duck fat as it’s really expensive) with no discoloration or burnt odor. The one thing to be aware of is it takes more than one gallon of oil/fat to fill the vat, but it also heats it quickly. Buy a gallon of canola or peanut oil, and you’ll get several uses before the oil degrades, provided you filter it first.Cleanup is also easy. The basket, vat, and lid are dishwasher safe, and the heating element/control unit has to be hand washed to protect the electronics.

Works well, large basket
Works well, large basket, heats oil quickly, maintains heat well. Only complaint is that I wish the lid would just flip up for ease of use, instead you have to remove the lid completely and set it aside to remove the basket, but that’s just a preference. Otherwise it works well. I can fry up to 15 eggrolls at a time.

I can’t fry anything but I can now
I just couldn’t keep the temp right whenever I fried food. I ordered this because it has the temp setting and I knew it would keep the temp where it needed to be. and I was right. fried Chicken wings and they turned out so juicy and tender and the crispiness of it was define. I’m glad I purchased this. Now I have prefect fried foods whenever I want.

Fragile, but frys well and it’s big
Update:So Amazon sent me another one quickly and this time everything was in good shape. I had chance to use it last weekend. If you usually fry a large quantity at once, this is good. But if you only need to fry a few pieces, it does require a lot for minimum oil. I put a gallon of oil and was able to fry 36 pieces of drumlets. 36 pieces were bit too tight to fit though. I had to place each piece vertically thus needing to put little more oil than the max to cover the top portion. Cleaning takes time, but that’s common. I still feel the outter materials are bit fragile, but it fried well. I just hope it will last long.——–Once I get a working product, I may upgrade the rating, but for now, I received a damaged product. It looks like it was hit right in the middle of the bottom plastic piece that there’s a big dent and plastic piece is broken. If it was just a dent, I may have kept it, but with broken plastic piece, no. I just received like 30 minutes ago, and printed my return slip. Hopefully I get back a non-dented and non-broken one. The outside aluminum and plastic piece as you can see are very fragile. But I am hoping it fries well once I get the good working product.

So much better than frying in a pan!
Exactly 1 gallon of vegetable oil will fill it. I save the oil container and pour the oil back in with a funnel, when I’m done. I used it for chili rellenos and disposed of the oil afterward. (sometimes the cheese seeps out and makes a mess of the oil if you are doing a lot of them. The lid, with the window is a nice feature and it’s great not to have a splattered mess all over my stove.

Bigger Than What I Need
I needed another deep fryer as my old one finally gave up. I ordered this because of the features and the deal price. It does have about every feature you could want in a deep fryer but unfortunately it’s too big for my needs. It holds a little over a gallon of oil. I wanted one a bit bigger than the average fryer and I didn’t realize how big it really was. I don’t have room for it in my cupboards. If you deep fry for a large party such as a football party, it’s great for that. For a single person like me it’s overkill.

It’s pretty light weight. The element lifts out easily so it can be cleaned. You lift out the oil pan to empty it which can be awkward. It’s an okay fryer. A little small for the price so get it on sale.

Ok but awkward to use
Yes this is a double but it really is big! It takes up a lot of counter space. Awkward: 1) when things are done, gotta find someplace to set the hot top down vs just flip it up; 2) always have to set the timer or it won’t heat; 3) the cooking/steam goes high & cam warp your upper cabinets. I would return by Hubby wants to keep it UGH.

Only OK. Timer Knob Broke on the Second Use
I wanted to like this fryer more than I do. I like the idea of a larger basket, which this has. But the downside is you need a gallon of oil each time. Great for larger families. Not so good for single servings. I strained the oil through a fine mesh strainer and cheese clothe each time, but on the third use, the oil left a not so great taste. Better to only reuse the oil once.It heats fairly slow, but this may be on par with most home fryers. To turn it on, you have to set the timer, which is a knob much like an old-school kitchen timer. When it ticks down, it will shut off, so you will need to keep adding time if you are using it a lot. The timer goes to an hour. The top temperature is 375. Good for most recipes. Although some call for 400.Cleaning isn’t bad as it breaks down into the shell, the oil container, the heating element, and the basket. The heating element is the most difficult to clean but overall, not bad.Unfortunately for me, the timer knob broke on the second use. I didn’t notice until I tried to use it a third time, and by then the return window had closed. So I guess I’ll come up with a fix.Like I said, I wanted to like this more than I do.

Needs Instructions
The reason I gave this 4 stars is because I had to look up on Youtube how to turn the fryer on. There is no instructions or anything on the box letting you know how to turn it on. To turn it on you set what temperature you want and then turn the “TIMER” knob. The timer knob turns the fryer on. So simple but print it on something! We fried onion rings and shrimp and it was goooooooooood. The mess was mostly contained with the lid and a simple clean up took no time.

Works, but…temp?
What I like most is that I can use this indoors without my whole house smelling like grease. The filter in the lid seems to work very well! The oil temperature, though, is questionable for the highest 375 degrees. It takes a really long time to get fully heated, and the temperature light doesn’t seem to work correctly when at range. So far, my handheld temperature probe has not shown it to reach the top temperature at all. It does get hot enough, however, for the foods I have tried so far: chicken, chimichangas, poppers, and sopapillas. I like the size of the basket, as it provides plenty of room to use tools for turning items over. I limited my larger foods to a count of three and smaller foods to eight/ten. Fried foods are a treat, but not something we would eat daily, so it will take time to try more things. I think it is worth its cost so far. It is easy to take apart and clean. I would be more impressed if the temperature was more precise and the “ready” light worked better.

Set the timer
I thought it was a dividend pan and had 2 baskets doesn’t my fault didn’t look close enough. Seems to work well. What I really dislike is the timer that has to be set in order for the oil to heat. Then after the timer zeroes out the unit shuts down.

Does what it’s gotta do
This fryer definitely frys you gotta keep your eye on because it cooks good and quick. One thing i had to figure out though was that the timer has to be on for the temp to come on, which is a good safety feature for those of us who are forgetful.

Works great
Fried wing dings were on the menu for this years Christmas eve celebration. I was cooking for 20 and was looking for an easier method to fry my wings. I bought a warehouse size bag of wings and it only took 4 session to cook all of them. They came out similar to my favorite wing restaurant. Using this fryer worked out better than pan frying, when I fry them they have a tendency to stick to my frying pan. This fryer heated up well, maintained its temperature and cooked the wings evenly. It was easy to disassemble which made clean up a breeze. I was a able to wash everything in the dishwasher but the heating element. It takes up about as much space as an air fryer so I store it in the pantry. The only negative is that it uses a lot of oil ( about a gallon) which seems like a waste if Im not frying a lot of food. Overall it fits my needs and I will be pulling it out for Super bowl sunday.

Makes the best Fench Fries you’ve ever tasted. Trust me, save time and money. Use Peanut Oil.
I have only two problems with this unit.1- You can not heat the oil unless the timeris turned on for actually cooking. If the timerhits ZERO before the oil is at temperature, theheating coil will shut down. SO, you have no choice but to keep walking in and put of the kitchen to see what’s going on.2- The unit does not have an alarm of any kind to let you know that it has reached the desired temperature, period. Again, you have to keep walking in and out of the kitchen to see if the Heating Light has literally turned off….

Works Well Easy To Use
Temp control works well. Used canola oil, never had the oil pop from over temp.1 gallon of oil is the max fill line.A very large amount of steam comes out of this when you first put in potatos to make French fries. Be warned, do not reach across the lid to change the temperature with your right hand when that steam is coming out. There is a small opening on the back of the lid for the heating elements. I never really ever saw the steam because it’s a small amount but its enough to instantly burn your hand. So wear an oven glove when messing with the lid or reach around the lid when this is frying something. The filter on the top of the lid was a waste of time for me. Drains too slowly, fills up too fast, and got oil all over everything. Use something else for an entire gallon of oil. Ended up just taking the filters out so there was another path for steam to escape.I found that near the end of making French fries like when they just are starting to brown and float to the top that it’s best to take the lid off because it’ll start to condensate and drip water into the oil, which makes it pop violently.

MIXED FEELINGS
I really wanted to love this fryer. I took a long time picking one out, read reviews and thought this would be a really good replacement for my old fryer that bit the dust after years of use with no issues. First, this is a BIG fryer as far as oil surface goes. It takes a LOT of oil to get it to the max line so you’ll need to either consider straining your oil for reuse or spending alot of money on new oil. I honestly don’t even see how you could fry anything if you bring the oil only to the minimum line because it barely covers the base of the basket. Even when the oil comes to the max fill line, it really isn’t very deep (unlike my old fryer that had a smaller surface area, but a much deeper fill line. I’m not sure how this fryer would work for fried chicken or larger pieces of fish, etc. Also, this fryer doesn’t have a “ready” light to indicate the temperature has reached what you set it at, AND you HAVE TO set the timer on the fryer for it to work. BEWARE that your timer doesn’t run out and you’re not watching it, as it will shut the fryer off while you’re cooking if you don’t reset it. On the positive side, I made homemade onion rings in this and you can do quite a few at a time thanks to the large oil surface area. They turned out beautifully; crispy and brown. Overall I’M NOT HAPPY WITH THIS PURCHASE, however I had already put oil in it before I discovered all these issues so I didn’t feel I could send it back. Now that I “understand” the fryer I think I can work with it but I’m sure there are other fryers out there with a better oil depth and without these somewhat weird features.

Pros and Cons
The media could not be loaded.
What I like: 1.The size of this deep fryer so I could fry alot at one time 2.The handle/ drop handle option for the fryer tray. 3.The timer, temperature control. 4.The Metal bar that allows me hold/ hover the fry tray over the oil. 5. The cover with the “peek” window so you can monitor your food without worrying about oil splashing.Dislike: 1.The min/ max lines in the fryer. The minimum line that you need for oil to cook does not cover your food as shown in one of the pictures I uploaded. I constantly had to flip the food to make sure both sides were cooked. 2.You need close to 3 gallons of oil to DEEP FRY your food. If you okay with flipping your food with the oil popping out the fryer then it’s okay BUT when I brought it, I was under the impression my food would be submerged. Unless you go above the max line ( which is stated as dangerous in the instruction booklet, your food might be uncooked on one side. 3. The frying tray is NOT NONSTICK. Your food will get stuck to the frying bin. You will need tongs or bravery to get your food off the drop bin because the food really STICKS. 4. You need oil on standby depending on how much you’re frying: 5.The heating poles in the the frying station is removable so you can safely clean the fryer and the electrical part separately. With the heating poles, the removable bin, frying tray and frying oil and food sometimes the tray can get lopsided in the fly you have to balance your food out on the frying tray or you have to move your food toward the side that is more submerged in oil.Overall: It’s not the best product in the world and not the worst. It ultimately does the job. I was more annoyed with the price of it and then all the little annoyance. For sixty dollars you could find something a lil better or wait until they drop the price.

Great Replacement for my Old Fryer
I bought this XL fryer as a replacement for an old fryer that I’ve had for years. I love this one. It’s big enough to fry four or five full pieces of fish at a time or an 8 piece chicken wing serving. It’s easy to clean, has great temperature control, and a timer that helps food cook to perfection without over cooking.THINGS TO KNOW:When the timer reaches zero the heating element turns off so be sure you’re paying attention to that.Easy to clean with a removable insertComes with an extra grease filter

XL Chefman deep fryer makes frying simple!
My deep fryer came in 2 days with prime. It felt pretty light in the box, was hoping there were no missing pieces. No missing pieces. I didn’t read the booklet that came in the box, so I couldn’t figure out how to turn it on once plugged in. Grabbed the booklet and it tells you, as a safety feature it will cut on and light up once you cut the timer on. Made my first batch and it came out GREAT! Not sure about the ease of cleanup because I haven’t done so yet. Would definitely purchase it again and recommend it to friends and family.
