Ok size
I like the rice cooker over all. It serves it’s purpose but it is a little smaller than what I actually prefer. I did also find out that you should add a little more water than recommended in order to get softer rice. The cooking time is perfect though. No complaints. Nice gift for college students in a dorm or a two person household.

Great rice cooker. Lasted me 10 years before it finally stopped working. Buying another one. No stick inside, easy to clean, steamer works, and good for all kinds of grains, though I mostly cook rice.

Smaller than expected
For some reason I thought this ricer would be bigger, however it turned out to be smaller than expected but it was pleasant to see that it actually does cook 6 cups and it was enough rice for the whole family (4) – The steamer works perfectly, I steamed some broccoli and carrots and they were perfectly cooked, not too soft and not too firm.

fits nicely in the cupboard with the rest of the pots …
I probably will be able to come back and give this little gem an extra star after I have learned its ways. This is my first (EVER) experience with a rice cooker and with my brother’s help (on the phone guiding me all the way) I chose this one as being about the right size for our needs and close enough to his 15 year old “National” (Panasonic) in looks, features, and response of reviewers. It is a darling size. It fits nicely in the cupboard with the rest of the pots and pans (which is a plus as we have way too many electrical appliances on the counters.) I suspect, though, that I may find it is a little small for our needs, but for the oddest of reasons. It actually makes plenty of rice for our needs, and in the end, it came out beautifully. But what a MESS getting there. It boiled over and some of its water/moisture ended up on the counter and on the lid. Some splashed all over other appliances on the counter. Since I got this in the hopes that it would be not only less mess, but, a set-it-and-leave-it arrangement, this was distressing to me. After it’s little tantrum it was harder to clean up than having to stand over my gas stove to keep my rice from boiling over LOL.This little rice cooker is a 3 cup UNCOOKED (6 cup cooked) unit and I started ONLY with 1.5 Cups of uncooked rice. By my calculations I should have had NO problems! … HOWEVER … Let’s rephrase this a little, because, to my ASTONISHMENT people don’t seem to even NOTICE (let alone feel entirely miss-lead) that 1 cup (to the rice cooker) does not equal 1 cup… •••• 1 Cup = 3/4 Cup •••• Yes, that is right, the little measuring device which comes with it, is NOT a WHOLE CUP, but 3/4 of a cup. Still, I used their little cup and placed its contents in a larger glass measuring cup so that I could rinse off the rice, and thus, I know that I started with 1.5 Cups of rinsed rice 🙂 Well below the (max) 2.25 cups that the cooker will accommodate.OK, now that we have the measurements understood, here it is “rephrased:”The MAXIMUM amount of (UNCOOKED) rice the the rice cooker holds is:… 2 1/4 Cups (2.25 Cups)•••• The amount of uncooked (rinsed) basmati rice I placed in the cooker: … 1 1/2 Cups (1.50 Cups)•••• The amount of water I added to the uncooked rice in the rice cooker … 2 1/2 Cups (2.50 Cups) (This is less than 2 x the water and slightly more than 1.5 x)There SHOULD have been PLENTY of room for the expansion of the rice (which there was) but the boiling process made the water escape the pot which would indicate that there was too much water for the size of the pot. Since there was fully 3/4 of a cup LESS (uncooked) RICE than the rice cooker could potentially handle, I dread to think what my kitchen would have looked like had I decided to cook a greater amount of rice!! LOLOn the OTHER HAND… even though about 1/4 cup of water escaped, the rice seemed not to suffer for it. So, NEXT time, I will try a little less rice, and a ratio of water that is closer to the 1.5 x rule of thumb that I have always used until these newer pots with the thick bottoms required more water so as not to burn the rice… 🙂 Hence my statement above that I might be able to come back and adjust the number of stars… :)The rice was AWESOME; was not sticky; nice an fluffy. The pot cleaned up well (except the lid was a little difficult, but I waited too long before trying… I should have soaked it right away.)I would recommend this little unit, but only if you are a one cup of rice at a time cooker 🙂 (for two people, maybe.) If I figure out what the water ratio is for different rices, I will come back and amend this.

Cute little thing
I got the smaller one by mistake on my part. It works fine and says it will do 3 cups of rice (uncooked) but I did 2 cups for the first cook and when it was finished cooking the rice cooker was Completely full. No way will this do 3 cups, going to buy a bigger one and use this one for the camper.

6 cups cooked rice, but it’s a 3 cup pot. Really small.
Works, but the description is deceptive. It hold 6 “cups” if using the little cup provided with the pot. In actuality it yields 3, standard measuring cups of rice.

Best $17 I’ve ever spent
My only regret is that I didn’t know of this product sooner.Pros:It’s difficult to eat healthy while making time for work, leisure and rest. Eating out a few nights a week gets expensive very fast. This little, red angel will put those worries behind. I was hesitant on purchasing this product. As the old saying goes, “you get what you pay for.” This rice cooker will possibly save you hundreds of dollars through out the year with quick, healthy, inexpensive dinners you can make. If you’re single, this is the answer to all of your cooking woes.Size – The cooker has a small footprint that you can set on any counter top, or table. You can leave it there without worry of taking up too much space, or burning what’s underneath. For it’s size it can make an amazingly large amount of food for one person.Cooking – The food is cooked quickly with little effort. Due to only water being used, the lean meats and vegetables are cooked with no worries of needing to add oils or cooking grease. With the cup the cooker comes with, one cup of brown rice serves me two meals. My meals consist of rice mixed in with vegetables such as squash to give it flavor, and 3-4 chicken thighs that I place on the cooking pan. I prefer to mix in the rice with the vegetables so I can have more space to cook more meat. The meat is steam cooked, so it’s healthy and when you mix it in with the rice and squash it gives it a bit of flavor without needing spices. Both the rice and meat are cooked simultaneously with no issues. Everything is done in over an hour, and I stir it once or twice.Hardware and maintenance – The steamer itself is sturdy, and cools down quickly. With one button to push makes it feel like I’m cheating when it’s cooking. No food or water should spill on it, so keeping it clean is an after thought. Cleaning the cooking pot, pan, lid and spoon takes about five minutes with soap and water. No need to put it in a dish washer since it’s almost trivial to clean. Again, because I don’t use oils to cook it’s incredibly simple to maintain. The build quality is sturdy and thick.Cons:The only two cons I’ve found are so trivial that they’re barely worth mentioning due to the price and performance this little beast puts out. The aluminum pan that cooks the meat has flimsy handles (this is a common problem with a lot of cook ware). You can feel the screws used were too short and will sooner or later break from the pan. Nothing that two screws and a small handle from an old pot won’t fix. The power cord is quite short (about a foot long) and you will need an outlet that’s nearby if you prefer a clean station without extension cords. Again, for the price and performance these two cons are barely worth mentioning and I think the product deserves the 5 stars.Note: The aluminum pan is very thin. Be careful if you use any acid based flavoring such as lemon juice. It will eat through the pan, but it’s acidic, so you can’t put blame on the pan.Summary: I’m extremely happy with this product, and the fact that it’s under $20 makes it feel like I made out like a bandit. Easy to make, healthy food for single workaholics and college kids. Enjoy!

Great little rice cooker
I have a regular Asian rice cooker and I love it but since it’s only myself and my son I don’t want to use it all the time so I read the reviews and found this little rice cooker and ordered it. This little rice cooker makes the best rice just like I like it and that was a wonderful surprise I seriously was not thinking that it would make rice this good but it does! And it’s simple to use and the smaller size makes perfectly 2 servings with no leftovers or maybe a little bit of leftovers. Plus the price was on point also. So glad I chose this one and if your hesitant don’t be order it you will be glad that you did.

Perfect Rice Cooker and Steamer–Best I have ever used! A detailed review follows…
First of all, this combo Rice Cooker and Steamer is just perfect for myself or when I cook for a guest. However, for testing purposes, I cooked a couple of meals for myself and a hungry guest! The results is that it does a excellent job preparing meals for two people and in about 25 minutes to 30 minutes time depending on what you are cooking in this combo pot.*The steamer part is enough for two people. The rice part makes enough for up to six people for the rice however. I make plenty of rice for me (one person) and place the leftover rice in tightly zipped zip-locked bags and the leftover rice lasts me up to six days in the fridge (I eat one of these packages of rice at night and pour gravy over it, a sauce or even stir fry etc).***PROS:+ Cooking RICE and STEAMING Veggies at the same time–This unit is made to steam UP TO 6 cups of cooked rice. The amount of rice that I placed into the bottom cooker section was 2 cups of uncooked (rinsed) white rice, which resulted in 4 cups of cooked rice which was plenty for the meal I prepared for myself and my guest. After our meal, I still had 2 cups of rice the next day in which to prepare yummy Fried Rice with veggies (one of my favorite dishes).***To steam fluffy and tender BROWN (Whole grain) RICE – I added just 1/4 cup more water to the pan and added the measured brown rice. I let it cook for a full 45 minutes. Because I added the extra water, the rice came out fully cooked, very fluffy and did not clump! The taste was great, so now I will be cooking MORE brown rice!+ How to steam both RICE and VEGGIES at the same time to be done at the same time for TWO people:1) I measured the rice into the bottom section and the water as shown on page 9 of this book.2) I steamed these veggies in the top section as shown on page 15 these vegetables — ½ Cup of Spinach, 1 sliced Roma tomato (medium), 1 small whole onion sliced in thin slices, ¾ cup of baby carrots, ¼ cup of thinly sliced celery, 1/8 cup of chopped garlic.(I had prepared a very light white sauce before this) and at the end of the cooking, I added the sauce to the steamed veggies and this made a wonderful vegetable and rice dish (with sauce) meal and it was quite filling!+ Water – I added the amount of water that the cooker called for with the rice, however, I added good quality bottled water in place of the tap water.+ Time to cook both the rice and the vegetable – The rice that I cooked was done in 26 minutes and the veggies also in 26 minutes (I like the veggies tender). So for me, both were done at the same time. I do not like gummy rice or overcooked rice, and this rice came out fluffy!+ Making SOUPS, CHILIS, or STEWS (this will serve two people depending on how big the bowls are in each serving) – The night before I made Chili or Stew, I had already cooked my meat and it sat in the fridge until I was ready to make my Chili or Stew. So I then added all of my ingredients to make one of these. Note, it DOES not make much Stew or Chili however, if I make this just for me or if making lots of Chili or stew, I prefer to make it in a large 5 Quart dutch oven on my stove cook-top so there are more servings for others.*Update: Sept 19, 2014 – I spilled water on the instruction manual that came with the cooker and called the Aroma customer service and they are mailing me the same manual to my home to replace the one I spilled the water on at no charge! Also, I went to Google and did a search for Aroma ARC-743 PDF and found the full color manual in PDF!This is the best combo rice cooker/steamer that I have ever owned.

Cheap rice cooker does the job
I bought this product for $17 in August 2022 so that I could easily make rice dinners in college (usually rice with some vegetables that I steam above). It has been a worthwhile investment that lasts me to this day. Here are some pros and cons of this product:Pros:-$17 for a rice cooker is really cheap for the utility I’m getting out of it.-It’s quick and easy to use. Just add rice and water (and optionally the steamer with other food you want to steam), push the lever, and wait for ~15-20 minutes.-It’s compact, yet makes more than enough rice to last a few meals. 6 cups is a lot of rice for an individual college student like me. And storing the rice cooker somewhere else when I’m not using it is easy since it is fairly lightweight.-It has lasted me for almost a year with regular usage, and I believe that it will last me at least a few more.-Unlike another review complaining about the stability caused by the three legs, I felt that this rice cooker’s stability was fine. However, I make simple rice dinners that only involve me preparing vegetables and adding them to the steamer, rather than actually breaking frozen food in the steamer like the reviewer did. Interpret this based on how you plan to use the rice cooker.-This rice cooker is easy to clean.Cons:-I wish there was a bit more feedback to indicate that the rice is done cooking. More expensive rice cookers play some sort of audio, while this one just changes the indicator light and makes a click when the lever is moved back to the non-cooking position. I find myself often going back and forth to check when the rice cooker is done cooking.-The cooked rice tends to become “webbed” at the bottom if you don’t rinse out the starch well enough, and it has mildly burned at times.-It’s easy to forget to unplug the rice cooker when you’re done. Even if the metal pot is no longer in the rice cooker, it will keep “warming” if you don’t do anything. This seems like a safety hazard that is easily fixable with some audio feedback or an auto-shutoff mechanism.Overall, this won’t cook your rice as well as an expensive Japanese rice cooker can, but if all you need is a few cups of well-cooked rice regularly, this is the product for you. I took off a star because of the lack of feedback that is an inconvenience at best and a safety hazard at worst, but this rice cooker will otherwise be able to meet your rice-cooking needs.

Four years of use every other day, and it still works perfectly.
As my title says, I’ve had this rice cooker for four years. I eat whole-grain brown rice or farro virtually every single day, usually cooking a new pot every other day. It still works absolutely perfectly. If you look at reviews reviews, you’ll see that whole-grain rice can be a challenge for rice cookers 10+ times the price of this one, and will often take upwards of an hour to cook it, yet this $20 rice cooker makes better brown rice than most restaurants in 40 minutes or less.I almost never write Amazon reviews, but this is a truly miraculous appliance.

This is a great buy
The directions couldn’t be more easier. No more burning the bottom of my pots. I wish I purchased this sooner. The rice comes out perfectly. Keep in mind that the maximum amount of rice it can cook is 2 cups (US). 2 cups of rice with 4 cups of water and you’re all set!

Great size for cooking portions for a single meal for 3 or fewer people
The products(we bought one for each of our sons) arrived at each destination on time, in perfect condition, had all parts and were easy to assemble/use. The rice cooker part works as expected. Rice cookers do tend to get sticky and are not particularly easy to clean in general, but this product is no more difficult to clean than most other steamers I’ve used.-The steamer part is a little small for steaming broccoli. I wish it were a bit deeper. As such I usually cut a bit off the broccoli stem, for instance, or cut the floret in half in order for them to fit in.-The device is designed to operate both functions simultaneously. However, when cooking rice and steaming veggies, the rice typically seems to finish first. I’ve found I then need to remove the rice, add more water and finish the veggies. I would have expected carrots to take longer than rice, but I didn’t realize broccoli & cauliflower would take longer to steam than rice.-The only thing I don’t really like about the product is the 3 feet it sits on. This arrangement of feet causes the product to be unnecessarily wobbly. I’m not an uncareful person, and yet I’ve managed to tip the steamer over a few times by accident. Having 4 feet would help correct this problem.

Easiest way to dinner for one!
I am so pleased with this cooker that does exactly what I want and need every time. I add two cups dry rice, usually brown but sometimes jasmine or basmati, and it cooks up as 4 cups perfectly every time. I bought this especially to replace a 3-cup Black & Decker which was great for rice only but the steamer basket was small and shallow. This basket allows me to add enough vegetables for a full dinner with rice. I add it in the last 10-20 minutes (depending on cooking time needed for veggies) on top of the rice so they are done at the same time. All I do is dish out the rice, scoop the veggies on top and add a sauce. Spicy Thai peanut sauce takes just a few minutes to make, keeps 5 days in the fridge in a mason jar. Easy meals, almost no prep work. It also leaves me two cups of rice that next day is cold and ready to make Chinese fried rice in a skillet. I use frozen mixed of stir fry veggies, scramble in two eggs, and this makes two more meals. So this little red 6-cup cooker saves me loads of time, washes easily and quickly by hand, and saves me a significant amount of my food budget, plus I am eating very healthy food. Win win win!!!

AROMA HOUSEWARED ARC-743-6 CUP POT WITH STEAMER… SO GREAT!
I just bought this cooker/steamer pot earlier in November 2023 and couldn’t be happier–yet after having used it twice only. I rated all the features five (easy to clean; easy to use; versatility) because those are some of the features I was looking for–and it excelled. I have the Dash mini rice makers which I love for small portions but this one handled larger ones, something I was looking for. Another important feature is the fact that it times itself and turns into the warmer when finished, making an audible click noise. During the cooking process which could be around twenty minutes I do check and stir if necessary; however, the fact that it turns into warm when done is a plus. If it needs more time, just turn it on again… This time, however, it might need less thus–as I did yesterday with a packaged macaroni meal–I was keeping an eye on it and stirring as necessary. I had placed additional veggies in the steamer and it all worked well. I first added oil to the pot to saute with added spices the chicken chunks I had individually removed from the package (usually they have no flavor); then added the separate sauce, followed by the macaroni and veggies; added a bit of water and let it cook by itself. After adding the additional steamed peas, I was able to quickly enjoy my meal. I know I can now try using just one easy-to-clean pot for many dishes. Will update.

A great value for a necessary appliance!
If you’re like me and cook a lot of rice dishes, a rice cooker is a must-have appliance. I’m so tired of baby-sitting rice on the stove, making sure it doesn’t burn. This cooks perfect rice in about 15 minutes, and doesn’t need to be baby-sat.I have a couple of issues to note, however. First, the build quality feels very cheap. The bulk of the materials are aluminum and plastic, and the no-stick surface is very thin. I haven’t had any issues yet, but but for the build quality and the price point, this is a disposable appliance; I’m not going to grow old with it.Second, the bottom is spring-loaded so that the burner will not turn on if the pot is not filled with water. I suppose that’s a good safety feature if you have kids. But it also means that you can’t use this cooker to toast your rice before cooking (toasting adds a nutty flavor to brown rice), because the rice isn’t heavy enough to compress the spring. One major design flaw of this appliance is the three point base it sits on. It’s stable while cooking. But try to scoop cooked rice out of it and it will easily tip over. Use oven mitts and lift the cooking pot out to set it on the counter before scooping out the rice.

Favorite rice cooker I have used to date
I love this rice cooker so much I would immediately reccomend it for ANYONE needed a rice cooker/ quick meal prepping.I have a feel for how much water to put in the machine after using it for a while, and it is easy to use better than bou to tailor the end taste in the way that I want it to taste. That being said, if I have anything frozen that I want to eat with the rice, I would let it defrost above the rice or grain, and then if it is not at the internal temp I want it to be, I just take it off and finish it off when I am ready to eat it.1000% the best rice cooking experience I have had far in regards to quick, simple meals with low thinking requires. probably great even for office cooking and meal prep as i am sure fresh steamed veggies will keep you going in ways you may not even realize you needed.get this as soon as you can, it may change your life. hahthis is coming from someone who has a kitchen aid with all the attachments, and an instapot with all of the inserts.

Average Rice Cooker
It cooks rice nicely. And you can steam small portions of vegetables and stuff. It’s very basic and works quite well. Perfect for the single person. It cooks for about 20 minutes and then automatically switches to the ‘warm’ setting. The only thing that concerns me is that there is no On/Off switch. Plug it in to cook – unplug it to turn it off. It’s really not bad for $20 bucks…..or less if you get it on sale.

My husband loves rice with many meals. I hate cooking rice, timing it, and keeping it from sticking. This cooker eliminates all the negative reasons listed. So easy to use, and very easy to clean. We also use it for oatmeal! Wish I had bought this years ago!

Great for easy meals for a single person
I really like this little thing. You do need to leave the vegetable steamer on, or it will splash water all over your counter – but overall it’s a great little cooker for the price. It’s easy to use – it only has 2 settings: cook and warm. Add your ingredients, plug it in, flip the switch, set a timer on your phone, and forget it.

The color is spot on with other appliances that I have. The size is just right as I am an empty nester now. Can’t wait to try it out tomorrow.

Needs a box to hide the actual box it came in
I got this for my mom as a christmas gift and luckily she didn’t get the packages on the porch yet but right there was the picture big as can be displaying what I got her I feel like this should go for all products not just this particular item. I’m sure it is great I just wrapped it up and put it under the tree for her but I feel like it needs to have a box to cover up the huge image of the item on it

Very happy
Great value. This little machine creates a lot (4cups) of rice fast. I think it was 20mins. A nice hack is to boil water in the electric kettle (takes less than 5min) and pour it in the uncooked rice. Takes roughly 10-15mins and if you have spices in there, the boiled water dissolves it well into the rice. I bought several as gifts

Good Product
Good Product – works fine with the rice and water however, it would have been even better if the rice bowl is a bit more heavier grade so that it doesn’t move too much while it’s empty

water boils over
I have not tried the steamer yet. I made the first batch of white rice, Measured according to manual. water kept bubbling over. I used 1c water. i had to keep going over to lift the lid 3x. i set a timer it took over 15 min. to cook. Rice was hard. Added more water. Stirred. Turned it back on. 10 minutes. Better not perfect. Tried again. 1c rice to 1c water. Hard. Stirred & added 3 oz. water turned it back on. Perfect. Heated up canned soup. Faster than my 750watt microwave. Just made boxed stuffing. Added all ingredients including dried cranberries & chicken. Not done -light turned to warm. Still dry bread. Stirred, added 1/3 c chicken broth. turned it on. Done. Fast. easy to clean.

Easy to use and easy to clean
My teenage son loves rice. So for his bday I bought this for him and he loves it. Uses it all the time. He even steams his veggies on the top. Total game changer for me on the nights I work late and don’t want to cook after a long day. He always gets a healthy meal.

Does the job if a little messy
I’ve made only enough rice in this thing for two dishes at a time. Even then, it foams up and out the hole in the lid enough to make a slight mess most times. It’s usually just the lid that needs extra cleaning, but I imagine if I were making more rice this thing would make a bigger mess as I saw mentioned in other reviews.

Works great, cooks veggies and rice at the same time!!
I waa looking for a small and inexpensive rice maker that would also make veggies at the same time. Well, this one does just that! I can make a full and healthy meal now in 30 min with minimal effort. Such a good deal for $18. The veggies and rice both came out perfectly. I’ll also be trying steamed salmon at some point. Mine arrived undamaged and worked great right out of the box. Just make sure you follow their weird instructions for water:rice addition/ratio. It’s not really sensual but if you do it there way, it does come out great.

Love this thing
For most of my life, my experience with rice has been of the minute rice variety. But I decided if I was going to start buying the less expensive “regular” rice I might as well go ahead and buy a rice cooker. I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on something that was as of yet unproven to me and this one had a pretty fair amount of reviews and it was definitely inexpensive. So far I have cooked white rice, brown rice, and quinoa. I would have to say that it’s been a resounding success. I still have to play with the water levels a little bit with a quinoa because it is a little bit different than rice, but I’m still very pleased with how it turned out. With people that have trouble with the stuff coming out of the cooker and making a mess, all I can figure is that they’re using way too much. The first thing is to only use that little cup that comes with it. They’re one cup is actually equal to about 3/4 of one of our “normal”cups. and is big and fluffy is the quinoa cooked up, I could very easily see how if you were to load up three even if the proper size cups in that unit that it would definitely blow all over the place. I added one of the cups that came with the machine and it easily filled the container halfway up. And something else that I do besides just cooking rice, is I will add vegetables into the steamer tray and I will mix those with a rice or the quinoa. Is this cooker the best that’s available? No I’m sure that it’s not. However I can say that it does exactly what I want to do and is easy to clean up. Is it going to last me 20 years? No probably not. But I’m happy enough with this unit that even if I have to replace it in 6 months I would not hesitate to do so.*Update*Still the best money I have spent in ages.I have added split peas and lentils to the list of things I have cooked in this. No soaking, etc. Just dump in a cup (the supplied one) and 2X that amount of water. That works very well for about everything except white rice. You might get some scorching in the bottom, but it comes out so easy.I have been using this at work, both to save money and eat healthier. Brown rice and either lentils or split peas have been my preference the last week. Then I put a 12oz bag of frozen vegetables in the steamer tray (green beans, peas and carrots, or mixed vegetables are my preference in that order) then a diced up onion, then a diced jalapeno pepper. The final thing that makes it so good is a tsp of chicken base to the water in the lower rice cooker bowl. Better than bouillon low sodium is my choice. It’s so good mixed together and seasoned with hidden valley spicy ranch dressing powder. I did the math and figured that I’m eating a healthy and delicious lunch for less than $9 a week. Can’t beat it.I’m eagerly awaiting a container of low sodium ham base I ordered online. I think that will be amazing if I use it to cook split peas and mix that with green beans and onions.I will know in about a week.

Perfect
I saw a lot of reviews saying it bubbled out, but i did not have that experience. I think the trick is to thoroughly wash the rice. I have made white rice and brown rice and there has been no mess and both were cooked perfectly. This is great for a single or two person household.
