Update 11/28/2021: The monitor mysteriously stopped working when my Mac updated to OS Catalina. At first, I thought it was an OS compatibility issue.The problem is the USB C cable. The new OS requires a Thunderbolt 3 cable for the monitor to work. I swapped out the cable with a Thunderbolt 3 cable and we’re back in business! I suspect upgrading the USB C cable will resolve the Windows issue too.—— Previous Review —–I’ve been using this monitor for the past few days. Initial impression: very happy with this monitor.A little background. I’m a software designer working from the road (random AirBNB’s, hotels, public spaces & co-working spaces). My regular work setup consists of a powered standing desk, two 24in external monitors in addition to the 3rd monitor from my 15in MBP. I find that losing the additional monitors significantly lowered my productivity.My requirements for a portable monitor were:1) Portability. I carry a 20L backpack by Peak Design. My whole workstation setup needed to fit in that pack.2) Minimal additional gear. I didn’t want to carry more stuff with me. I already had too much as it.3) Seamless performance. The monitor needed to make my user experience better; not detract from it. In the past, I’ve tried using my iPad Pro as a second monitor. Even with a wired connection, it had too much lag.Pros:1) Portability: It’s very light with a footprint that is slightly larger than my 15in MBP. It fit snugly into the laptop slot of my pack. Barely notice the addition.2) Minimal additional gear: The only cable needed for this monitor is a USB-C cable. Power and video flow through this one cable.3) Ease of setup: For my MBP, it was plug and play. No dongle. No additional software to install. Super simple.4) Excellent design: The cover/stand is ingenious. The cover becomes the stand (one less thing to carry) and attaches to the monitor magnetically producing flexible viewing angle choices.5) Performance: No lag. Good picture (I’m comparing it to the retina screen on MBP). The color reproduction is acceptable. I plan to use it as my secondary monitor.Cons:None yet.Final verdict: I would buy again.

no physical buttons proves to be more of a hassle than anything
Pros – picture quality is good. viewing angle is good. IPS panels generally have decent picture quality. Installed and turns on no problem. Has vesa mount !Cons – So…..i knew there was no physical button to adjust the picture settings. You need AOC software to do adjust brightness etc. This wouldnt be a problem if the software worked. But the software does not work. It only detects my other monitor (im using this as a second monitor). It does not detect the AOC. So i cant adjust the picture. Default the picture is too dim. Also i started having issues withdisplay blanking out for a split second once in awhile. USB monitor is slightly laggy. If you do not want any delay then you should get a display with a HDMI port instead.I will be returning this monitor because i cant adjust the picture setting.

Estaba un poco indecisa por las malas calificaciones de los comentarios, me arriesgué y bueno es verdad el puerto usb es muy sensible en mi caso desde las primeras horas que comencé a usar el monitor comenzó a prender y apagarse todo el tiempo, lamentablemente lo he devuelto, de cualquier modo el brillo de la pantalla no es agustable y bueno una lástima porque el monitor es muy bonito y la base me gustaba mucho.

No funciona como debe en equipos laptop
Conseguir el driver adecuado fue problemático (Windows 10) no es plug&play y trae un CDROM cuando la mayoría de las laptops con USB-C no traen lector de CD; posteriormente no funcionaba de manera adecuada, el Windows indicaba que reconocía el monitor pero no la podía usar, dos veces logre hacer que muestre algo pero se acababa apagando o dejaba de funcionar quedando la pantalla negra.

Works so well for my portable system, it ought to have a personal name!
I am using the AOC e1659Fwu 16-Inch USB-Powered Portable LCD Monitor (Latest Version) monitor with my ACER ASPIRE ONE 722-0427 net book which has an 11.6″ screen with a native resolution of 1366X768. This computer has three usb 2.0 ports. I loaded the drivers as recommended in the online manual (I recommend you download this manual from AOC before you make a purchase to familiarize yourself with the features and the download process). During the download and installation of the drivers pauses or apparent “final points” in the installation should not distract you. Just make a cup of tea and listen to a recorded book. I did not time it but I would guess the entire process took about 20 minutes so. Do not become anxious or impatient. Just sip tea for half an hour. When you reach a pause or or apparent end point in the process, wait a couple of minutes before taking action.Through a comprehensive menu I was easily able to set the screen up. I wanted to set my system to blank my net book screen and use the AOC monitor as my primary video output. This was quite easy. There are other options, which may be more suitable to your needs, but I have a small work area and consider myself a minimalist so I wanted the cpu off the desk and out of my way. Now I simply have the 15.6″ AOC monitor and a small wireless keyboard and mouse in front of me. For writing this is an absolutely perfect arrangement – No clutter, all workspace.Absolutely everything worked as advertised. One USB 2.0 port did the job. The drivers work perfectly. The image is great and plenty bright for a well-lighted room with an open window next to the desk. According to my research before purchasing the AOC e1659Fwu, some other similar monitors reportedly have less bright/clear screens or seem to have compatibility problems. Compatibility is a path you have to investigate before buying any monitor. My screen resolution was a perfect match. I cannot speak to other computer screen resolutions. Most, I imagine, will be fine.The protective sleeve provided is of high quality although I would have preferred it to close with a zipper or have an envelope-like folding cover for the end. The open end in this case is well-secured with a wide strap that has a Velcro closure…quite adequate but not impervious to spills, dust, fingers reaching into it, etc. It also lacks a carrying handle (most other sleeves lack this feature as well).The design of this monitor is very attractive and the “leg” that supports it is strong. When the leg is folded into its recessed cavity, the monitor makes a perfectly smooth surface to slip into the provided sleeve. As a precaution, I intend to cut a piece of foam board to fit the sleeve and cover it with soft fabric to protect the screen from damage from luggage mishandling and bumps in public places. The device is not fragile by any means, I simply want to protect my investment.Nothing is ever perfect. Few things operate as well as advertised. Some reviews may exaggerate. Many computer peripherals may require professional tweaking…..but not this one. Although I have only used it a short time and have not experimented beyond the things I wish this monitor to do for me, I have put it through its paces as best I can and it works perfectly in my minimalist configuration. Just check your configuration compatibility. That is always the buyer’s responsibility; beyond that, expect stellar performance.

The media could not be loaded.
This screen was so easy to use right out of the box. I simply hooked it into my computer and – BOOM – done! It was ready to mirror my screen in every which.I did not need to hook it up to another energy source. It does not suck the energy life out of my laptop. I did not need another stand for it; the magnetic screen protector did that for me. The screen quality and brightness is fantastic! I love how big it is!The only downside is it’s not touchscreen. But given everything else positive about it, it’s easy to get over. This screen is making online school so much easier.

These are excellent little side monitors for travel or, as in my case, for permanent use with my laptop.I have 2 of these at my office, so a total of 3 monitors set up in a panoramic array.Picture quality is very good, although available resolutions are not as high as the monitor itself.They DO require powered USB ports (and each one requires TWO ports).Very very worthwhile……I want them for home as well as at work.

Great Quality Monitor and very portable for Windows and MacBook computers.
This is a very high quality monitor with a crisp sharp image. It is also very portable and light. To connect to my Windows computer it required me to download the driver from the CD. This was a bit of a problem because I had to borrow a CD drive. My laptop doesn’t have a CD ROM drive. However, once I downloaded the drivers the monitor worked very nicely. I tried to see if there was a driver that could be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website. However, I was not able to find it. I think this model monitor is new and the support files are not on the website yet. When I tried to connect to a MacBook computer I had to do the same, The good news is that it works trouble free on both a Windows computer and MacBook computer.One nice feature is that you can flip the monitor on its long edge and the image flips as well just like a smart phone.

La uso mucho. Sin embargo le falta poco de brillo. La calidad visual digamos que esta bien. Pero al ser extendido de una pantalla macbook pro se ve un poco deficiente en colores. Pero me ayuda mucho a tener dos pantallas ser portable como un ipad grande. Y solo con el usbc energizarse. Vale la pena por lo que se paga. Siempre cargo mo notebook y este. This is not a plug-and-play monitor like what the manufacturer claims it to be. Maybe for some laptops, but not for all laptops. Here is a list of everything wrong with this useless paperweight:1) NOT PLUG-AND PLAY!!!2) You have to download the driver. Except it doesn’t work!!!3) Only works if you have a USB-C port, which not all laptop has. They don’t provide you with a piece to convert it to a regular USB.4) I purchased a USB-C to USB cable and it still did not work. Which could be because I apparently needed something in my next point…5) Apparently you needed cables that either support DisplayPort, Altmode, or Thunderbolt (from some forums I’ve read). So something like a Type-C to HDMI (if you have a HDMI port) may work. Although I don’t have the time or patience to do AOC’s work for them.Here’s a tip for AOC: Give people ample information on how to get your product to work. If you don’t want to spend the money to provide them with compatible parts, at the very least, provide them with information that they need!I am returning this item and have gotten an ASUS monitor instead. That at least is USB to USB and downloading the driver is easy enough that it doesn’t require me to get into a troubleshooting rabbit hole on the internet just to find relevant information!!Finally, please be aware of the shill reviews here. I ignored the 1 star reviews thinking they had an axe to grind but it turns out, they might be legit reviews!!!

This display worked great at the beginning. The USB-C cable protrudes out quite a bit, but as long as you can accommodate the room, it’s fine.I took it out in my backpack during a few outings. I tried to be gentle, as it was between my laptop and the soft padding inside my bag. Well, as the picture shows, it’s broken already. I’ve had it for 2 weeks. Definitely cannot travel, or make sure you take tons of precautions with it. The laptop is just fine and will continue to be for years, I’m sure. I won’t be buying AOC again.

I tried several monitors before this one, and this is by far the best.1. Asus HD Portable USB-Powered Monitor with USB 3.0 (MB168B)This one was a fine monitor. Well built and sturdy. However, it had severe flaws. The first is that it didn’t have an attached stand, you had to use the case, which took up a large portion of my desk. Second, it had high power consumption, making it unusable on my work laptop unless I carried a usb powered hub with me everywhere as well (which to me, makes having a portable monitor worthless)2. AOC E1649FWU (the model before this one)Seemed like a good monitor at first – super cheap ($90!) and decently built. Built out of plastic and kind of bulky for everyday transport though. The major flaw with this one was that the screen would flicker and disconnect/reconnect every 10 minutes or so, making me have to reset my windows. This made it more frustrating then useful, and I finally returned it after a few weeks.3. This model – the AOC e1659FwuExcellent construction. -It comes with a tight fitting sleeve so it fits into my backpack along with my laptop without issue. -No flickering -No excess power consumption. Works with my rather low end work laptop without any issue -Sleek design, so it doesn’t take up much of my desk -No lag for working on normal document processing. I haven’t tried it with games, but I can’t notice any delay in doing normal document workOnly problem I had with it was some static appearance on white backgrounds. However, this was easily fixed by increasing the contrast. Now it works better than the screen attached to my laptop. I highly recommend it.

Best cheesy monitor ever
To start with, I had to return the first one I received due to the display panel inside the frame being 5 degrees skewed and also shifted to the left where I wouldn’t be able to see the left 1/2″ of the screen because it was getting blocked by the frame and the right side had a 1/2″ wide black space. So, this should give you a fair idea of quality control about these monitors.The replacement did not have any of the issues of the original and it is working fine. I love the experience of having this as my second monitor to a large extent. However, the advertised “auto pivot” function which automatically supposed to correct the image to show the right side up if change the monitor from landscape to portrait mode and visa versa. It just isn’t there on this model.There is very limited and spotty documentation available with the product. Let me tell you what it is and what it does.This is a portable monitor as it is advertised and makes its connection over a single USB 3.0 wire as opposed to your regular home/office monitor that requires an AC power connection and a display port or HDMI port connection. So, it is sort of for business on the go as it is advertised. If you have a laptop that does provide video output through the USB-C, then you have a large pool of monitors available to you where every single monitor will provide a working picture by just connecting using a single USB-C to USB-C wire. On the other hand, if you don’t have a video delivery capable USB-C port then your options change drastically if you want a portable monitor that you can connect easily. You will now need to connect the aforementioned HDMI cable and then feed the power to the monitor through its USB-C from an AC adapter. Now you have 2 cables to deal with that going around your limited desk space. Or you can utilize the stepchild of the portable monitor world, USB 3.0 connection (or later like 3.1/3.2). All that can be done through the USB-C port as far as sending the picture to an external monitor can be done through a USB 3.0 port. Your hint here is the blue-colored plastic parts inside the port vs the black.Currently, there are only 2 brands that I was able to identify that are capable of making this connection without additional hardware ASUS and AOC. Asus appears to have a little adapter even that supports both USB-C to USB-C and USB3 to USB-C.As far as AOC I1659FWUX specifics are concerned, it is USB3.0 only. There is no SUB-c or HDMI option on the monitor side. That means, if your computer doesn’t have a USB 3.0 port to utilize, you are either out of luck or you need to look for alternatives for some adapter. Most other monitors typically have two USB-C ports and an HDMI port on them for connectivity. In my specific case, the USB-C port on my laptop did not have the ability to deliver video, so I am limited to USB 3.0 or HDMI for the video feed. Since I work off a coffee table rather than a computer desk, unlike the rest of the civilized world, I certainly don’t want to run multiple wires. So, single SUB 3.0 cable in this case works perfectly for me. The downside here I don’t have the option to connect an HDMI source ever, like a portable DVD player, etc to this monitor since it doesn’t have the port. So, in summary, no point of getting this monitor, if you don’t have this limitation with your USB-C port.Then there is the stand issue which is a common problem for portable monitors. Most stands that come with portable monitors are fancy profiled vinyl, requiring you to be an expert on origami. Generally speaking, they are terrible ideas for holding your fragile monitor that doesn’t react to falls that well. AOC uses a built-in metal leg installed with an angle to address the stand issue and I must admit it works. Not only for landscape but also for portrait mode. The stand option on this AOC model bar none is the best portable monitor support option that exists out there that I was able to locate.In conclusion, while I am not confident with the long-term reliability of this monitor due to the feedback from others and my experience from the earlier purchase which doesn’t look good for the quality control of AOC, I am at the moment quite happy with it. If you are in the same niche market as I am and a heavy portrait mode user then this is the monitor for you.

Lot of input lag for the USB A version
USB a version has a long delay with input lag. Also it’s too much of a pain to install it to a Linux computer. Of course no regular person would game on it, however you can’t use it as a monitor at all on a computer where you’re playing games because the computer will sync up the monitors so the frames arrive at the same time. That’s a no go.Idk it’s not bad it’s just… Stuck with USB buffer

AOC e1659Fwu and AOC I1659FWUX. Great thin, light, USB monitors. Mild negatives.
The 16″ , 1366 x 768 USB monitor (AOC e1659Fwu) has been great for years now. It is thin, included a neoprene sleeve cover and the stand works well. I HIGHLY recommend these monitors as when I go to site for service or travel for work, I have a second screen to allow active work on one screen, a procedure, email or remote screen on the other…. whatever. This monitor has lower resolution, so I have to shrink some things to fit or move them around. Windows allows reduction on this extended screen too. The AOC monitor displays pictures, text and movies perfectly.So, I purchased the AOC I1659FWUX 15.6″, 1920 x 1080 HD USB monitor to replace it (I use the original on my personal laptop now) and fit more on the screen though slightly smaller physically. My laptop is 15.6″ and both fit in the laptop bag side by side. I never travel for work without the monitor with me. This model has a USB A to USB A 3.0 cable and is not as delicate as the one I described above, though I am adding my hooks to protect it anyway. It works well with a USB A to USB C adapter. Great picture with HD resolution.The negatives.* The neoprene sleeve, though soft, provides NO protection from impact to the screen in transport. Many complaints about that. I use the original cardboard sheet sized the same as the monitor from the original box over the screen in the sleeve. I am creating something a little better abrasion free.I use this in hotels and in computer rooms, so it does get moved around a lot, pulled out and put away.* The USB cable. You can use USB C or USB A (USB 3.0) for laptop/PC end. The included cable is stiff and I replaced it with more flexible and shorter (2ft) fabric sleeved cables to carry (USB A and USB C ends for laptop). Amazon has tons of options here. I posted a pic of the micro USB male charging cable used for the monitor interface on the 16″ model. The 15.6″ model uses a standard USB A male connecter at the back.* The connector on the monitor. Everyone’s biggest complaint as there is no protection from pulling the cable out sideways and damaging the interface connector. I posted pics of a simple solution I created using small 3M Command stick-on hooks. I can weave the cable around the three hooks, then slide it into the connector. Removes ALL of the stress from side movement and saves the monitor from the recycler or trash. Easy to remove. Allows movement without worry. Anything like a velcro strap or a clip fastened to the back to prevent pulling out will work.The negatives are easy and inexpensive to fix to prevent damage.Do NOT let these issues prevent considering the purchase of these monitors. The cardboard comes with the package, the 3M hooks cheap and the flexible, shorter cable, under $8 from Amazon and years of trouble-free use. An excellent option with AOC reliability.I gave 4 stars instead of 5 ONLY for having to do things to prevent damage that should have been considered in the design and testing of these really great monitors.11/7/22. I had to update to 5 stars as I just can’t get around using either of the monitors and have been undeniably reliable despite the negatives. Take the precautions I outlined and a long useful life is expected. I have one for each personal and work use and don’t go anywhere without them. Recommended to friends who have purchased too. The newest one in HD has been OUTSTANDING.

Instant dual or triple monitor setup
Install the drivers, plug in the USB cable and Voilà! instant dual or triple monitor setup. The USB3 cable has a secondary plug on the computer end in case your USB outlet doesn’t provide enough power, I didn’t have to use this feature. The image looks great in landscape mode but has a strange effect in portrait mode, no big deal. If you turn the monitor on it’s side, it is immediately recognizes by the computer and everything is adjusted accordingly. There are little rubber pads at the bottom and on the side to keep it from sliding. It is light and comes with a nice carrying sleeve that closes with a Velcro . Looks great next to my laptop. Has screw holes in the back so that it can be attached to an arm or wallmount. Dimensions: 9-1/4 inch high, 14-3/4 inch wide. This model is USB3 but works fine in a USB2 connection. There are no buttons on this unit, it just turns on by itself when it is pluged in. To adjust brightness and contrast you have to click on the icon in your tray and choose the Settings option. I bought 3 of those, all work fine.

What a terrible display
It took a bit of work to get it going – the software was on a CD and I haven’t had one of these for years. When I got it going the display was very washed out. I adjusted contrast and brightness and it was tolerable when directly in front….but absolutely terrible as the viewing angle increased.I had planned to use it as a second monitor for my laptop but it wasn’t useable.

Compré este monitor hace un año y es parte de mi oficina móvil. Como apoyo para ofimática es bueno lo uso en general para leer documentos en esa pantalla como apoyo (soy abogado). Para jugar o consumir contenido multimedia no es el ideal, los colores y la definición no son las mejores, ni tampoco el brillo en exterior. El hecho de que con un solo cable funciona es perfecto, realmente lo convierte en un dispositivo portátil. Lo uso en una macbook pro M1.

BEWARE! DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS 10!
I was super excited about this monitor from the looks of it online, but was extremely disappointed upon receiving it. The monitor would simply turn on and say “no signal.” After about 3 hours of troubleshooting and searching online forums for solutions, I finally found the explanation. Someone in one of the forums where they were having this very problem said that they called into to AOC technical support and they were told that the monitor was meant more to be used with MACs, and was only usable for usb-c ports that are thunderbolt enabled (which virtually no windows laptops under $1000 are). And that was only the first issue. They really haven’t updated the drivers for this these monitors since windows 8, and if you search online you can see that most people who had these have had nightmares with them after switching to windows 10. I wasn’t able to find a single one of them who got the usb-c connector one to work. If you have a MAC, you might get it to work (can’t guarantee it though), but if you have a windows 10 laptop of any price or quality you are better off not spending your time or money on this one, cuz you will be returning it after 1 day of frustration as I have.I think AOC is guilty of some deceptive advertising here to be quite frank. Their website is a nonsensical jumble two, and I had to jump through hoops for 10 minutes on there just to find where to download it. On top of that, they compressed the drivers as .rar files, which meant that I had to find and download another program to even get the files downloaded, and even when I finished all that, they didn’t work. Their website, support, and promises have all been garbage so far.I would recommend a portable monitor that actually has an hdmi or display port input. These usb monitors always have issues with drivers and updates. Even if it means one more cord, at least it actually works simply.

Excelente monitor portatil!
El monitor funciona a base de USB 3 e incluye cable y funda de viaje. El Monitor tiene muy buena calidad de imagen, tiene buen tamaño, es un poco grueso, pero es muy ligero. No hay problema para transportarlo, pero es más grueso que una laptop, y un poco más largo que una laptop de 15 pulgadas de pantalla. La relación de precio calidad es muy bueno. La calidad del plástico es buena, pero no lo dejaría caer de alguna mesa muy alta. En general el producto cumplió con las expectativas, la calidad de imagen valen mucho la pena, y la portabilidad. 100% recomendado.

なんといっても、手軽で接続や持ち運びに便利でとても重宝しています。USBケーブルも付属されているのでPCとつなぐだけで簡単です。以前、同じメーカのTNパネルタイプのものを使用していて気に入っていたのですが、紛失してしまい新たにこちらの製品の購入に至りました。この商品はIPSパネルなので以前使用していたTNタイプよりかなり画質が綺麗になりました。また、広視野角なのでいろいろな角度から画面を見ても綺麗に見えるので人に画面を見せながら説明をするのにも向いていると思います。画質が気にならない方はTNパネルでも十分かと思いますが、個人的にはIPSの方が高画質、広視野角なので使用用途の幅も広がりおすすめ。とにかく、いつものパソコン作業の効率が格段にUPしストレスなく仕事も進みとても満足しています。

Light and good value for money
Before buying this monitor, I spent quite a long while looking at different portable monitors but am very pleased with my choice. It is very light and portable – I sometimes work at home and sometimes in my office, and it’s great for being really easy to bring between the two, even though I walk everywhere. (I would love to take it to a cafe when I work there, too, but I feel like that might be a bit much!) It worked easily and without needing to set anything up as soon as I plugged it in to my Mac, so that was good too. I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about it – the screen is nice and clear, too, and it is good to work from.

I purchased this to use with a Razor Blade 15 laptop. Its primary purpose is for programming and amateur radio control, which for me requires dual monitors. I do game with the laptop on occasion, but did not purchase this monitor for that purpose. It can’t compete with the laptop display by any means, but setup as a dual monitor to increase project productivity and aid in seamless workflow, works for me. Look for something else if you’re going to use it for gaming.I would not recommend this monitor if color accuracy is essential. Some colors tend to be a bit dull, and reds seem to be slightly on the orange side. Brightness and contrast are acceptable, but I have only used it indoors so I can’t say how it will do outside exposed to mega-glare. I set the Low-Blue Mode to ‘weak’, which adjusts the grayscale closer to match my laptop display.Per specification, it connects to the computer via a USB-C port. The port on the computer must support Display Alternative Mode. I initially installed the provided iMenu utility which allows monitor adjustment from the host computer, but found it to be a bit buggy on my Win 10 laptop. It would hang for unacceptable lengths of time, or completely lockup and/or crash. It also seemed to conflict with the native Windows Display Control Panel. Uninstalling it was no walk in the park either. Using the monitor OSD menu works well enough for me. It’s a one button control feature located on the left side of the monitor. In fact, it’s the only button on the monitor. Odd, but it works.Why I like it.• Lightweight and portable• Full 1080 x 1920 native resolution• Decent display for the money• One cable connection (no wall-wart or separate power connection needed)• Includes a protective cover that functions as an adjustable stand• Matches my laptop

Good product for the money
I love the product, it works fine. Screen is large enough while light weight. Perfect when I go and work in coffees. I can pack it easily in my backpack. The cover is a nice to have for traveling, and really well made; it is magnetic and covers the screen completely. I would have appreciated if it would have covered the whole device, like te back and the corners, as it only covers the front now.I gave the product 4 stars for 2 reasons. First, the cover is nice, but is marketed as a dual purpose, also to be used to hold the screen…that does not work properly. If you move a bit, it flats down and your screen falls…also, the angle of the screen is too horizontal…not great! Second, the reviews already said it; the connection cable is a bit sensible. You cannot move the screen too much, otherwise it disconnects. However, it is not a problem for me. I bought an Ipad support, and put my screen on it. It does not move at all, and never disconnect.
