    Overall Decent Pump

I am a first time Mom and have been lucky to try 2 versions of the Medela pump already, the older stand alone version of the Medela Pump In Style Advanced (PISA) and also the backpack version of the PISA, so this will be my 3rd Medela pump. I pump 3-6 times a week now (I used to pump more often) and had the opportunity to use the new Medela Pump In Style with MaxFlow 2020 version in return for my honest review. I want to be as thorough as I can for those who are looking into a pump as I know its so overwhelming :)The Pump: The pump itself is really appealing at first glance. Very compact compared to the PISA and much lighter. Is has a hard casing, as the PISA had a black bag or backpack that went around it and you could not take out the pump itself. I do not travel much with my pump, I mainly use it at home but I could imagine the new MaxFlow would be so much better for portability. It is quieter than the PISA however the noise never really bothered me as I am home pumping. It advertised that it increases milk volume 11% but I have yet to see a difference in my output, I am pumping about the same output as before. I think those moms that exclusively pump hopefully see that increase. Now the MaxFlow has 4 buttons that are while the PISA has a dial and a button. This makes it looks much sleeker.Cons: The pump, like I said, looks awesome however there is no indicator on what suction level you are on. It has a ‘+’ and ‘-‘ sign but no window to show what number or suction you are on so you are left guessing or remembering ‘oh let me press it 5 times’. I much prefer the PISA where I knew exactly where to place the dial for my maximum output. Unfortunately, with the MaxFlow, I’m still trying to figure that out. I will say that the suction does seem weaker than my stand alone PISA that is 5-6 years old and as I noticed the same thing with my backpack version of the PISA. The suction seems to be getting weaker as the new versions comes out, I would think the suctions would get stronger or at least stay the same. The Flages: The flages I can say are much better. They have this rubber around the rims that makes it much more comfortable for pumping. It comes with both a 23mm and 21mm which is nice to have the option instead of just the common size. I actually use a 19mm with my PISA, an off brand, and found that they do not make this size again for the MaxFlow so I use the 21mm and they seem okay, I think I would do much better with a smaller size so hopefully they will make those eventually. The Tubing: The tubing is much better. There is a plastic piece that connects to the actual pump now which holds much better than the PISA, mine would slip off occasionally. It is thicker and seems more durable. Its easier to pump just one side if you need, all you do is disconnect from the pump and stick it in the ‘Y’ tubing area to secure the suction is closed. Now the only down fall I see with the tubing is it is a little shorter than I would like. I wish it had a few more inches to it to give me more range to do things as I sit and pump. The Bag: I haven’t used the bag personally, but it looks nice and grey color is very neutral. It seems like the pump can fit with plenty of space for bottles or whatever else you needThe Connectors: Now this might be the biggest Con to me, and maybe because I’m a first time mom and I like to see everything that’s going on especially when I’m pumping, but they redesigned the whole connector. The membranes are much larger to prevent backflow which I have had no problems with. The biggest problem I see is that the connectors are a solid white color, not clear. I don’t know why they would change this. I mean it looks much sleeker and clean, so possibly that’s the reason but I like to see what exactly is coming out, how much, how fast, if I have a clog I like to see that its coming out and especially towards the end of my pump I like to make sure I pump it all out and now I find myself leaning over trying to see if I see any drops in the bottle. The tunnel where the flanges connect is much shorter which helps in blocking to see what is going on. I find myself pumping for a longer amount of time because of this, I was so used to seeing what is going on and now that I can’t I sit longer in hopes that I’m pumping it all out instead of knowing. So if you are one that likes to see exactly what is happening like me, you might want to take that into consideration. The Powersource: It comes with both a wall connector and a portable battery pack. The portable battery pack takes AA batteries. I really wish it came with a rechargeable battery as I know some other pumps do. So possibly the next version with have that option.Overall, this pump has improved. It is much more portable and compact compared to the PISA. I like that its not connected to a backpack, I hated that, and that it can stand alone. It more comfortable then the other, and really, comfort and function is most important. The biggest drawback that does not fully allow me to love it is that the connector is not clear so I can’t fully see what is going on. I think that is all preference though. If this were my first Breast pump I know I would love it, no question. I think Medela listened to their Mama’s and made changes that greatly improved this pump however I think a few more changes and it would be amazing.

    Buena inversión

Lo acabo de estrenar y funcionó a la perfección. La verdad me sorprendió la cantidad de leche que obtuve, anterior mente tenía otro extractor madela, pero un modelo antiguo y es mucha la diferencia. Me encanta. Es práctico, pequeño, no hace mucho ruido, y es bien potente. Sin duda es una de las mejores inversiones que he hecho en cuanto a lactancia se refiere.El bolso es excelente y todos los accesorios que trae, me encantaron.

Easy to use – does the job!

Very easy to use, been a life saver to help with milk production so we didn’t have to resort to formula, which is horrible for infants! You have to take the time to clean, but other than that, great product!!

    Best pump I’ve tried!

I really love this pump in comparison to the Lansinoh I used previously. It gives me the best output and the most comfortable to wear. It’s not totally “hands free” because you have to keep it attached to the base & battery pack.I wish the battery pack was rechargeable. Otherwise, I’m happy.

    Not exactly hands free

I’m a mom of two and usually need to be hands free while pumping. This pump works well (strong suction, adequate output) however it isn’t as portable as I’d like it to be since you have to carry both the pump and the battery pack around with you. I also have the Willow Go, which has better portability, but doesn’t work as well as the Medela, so it’s a trade off. I think I will use this pump when I know I’ll in one place for the entire session, and will use the Willow if I’m on the go. Both are far better options than traditional pumps in my opinion, and far easier to clean and assemble. So although it’s not exactly hands free, I’m still pleased with this pump and will continue to use it!

Simply put, don’t waste your money.

When I got pregnant, my insurance at the time offered a portable pump (Freemie) and I selected it not realizing that it wasn’t really the best fit for a standalone pump for every day use. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow a Spectra from a cousin, and around 6 months into breastfeeding, I had to return the Spectra because she needed it again.Knowing I was gonna make a big investment, and I had just accepted a new job that would take me out of the house, I was willing to spend a decent amount of money to get a pump that could travel with me.I was convinced by my aunt who was a Medela rep back in the 90s that this was the only way to go if I had to buy my own pump. I combed through reviews, and selected this Pump in Style model.Up to this point, I was mainly pumping to feed my daughter so it was a lot of trust to put into this machine. When it arrived, I was impressed by the sleek style. It is compact, the stock flanges fit me great, and the machine was not a complete atrocity to look at.The pump has an automatic setting when you turn it on that mimics your babe; it pumps lower suction at a fast rate, and then a few moments later (post let-down) it slows down, again, mimicking what our babes do. I like this function, it worked well for me, it pumped a comparable amount (if not slightly more) than my spectra. It is a little louder than other machines, but nothing too crazy. The parts of the pump (the overflow protector etc) were a little difficult to take a part and put together, and unlike my spectra, the flange unit all put together is too heavy and cannot be put down on a table to rest without an inconvenient base attachment which made it difficult to juggle pump parts and try to store my milk at the same time (I.e definitely not ideal for moms on the go).I treated this pump and the pump parts exactly as I treated all my other pumps and pump parts. The pump was stored in my pumping cart and I pulled apart and washed everything separate and let them air dry. Day 1.5 of having this pump, I put all the parts together after they sat on the rack drying from the last pump session (~3 hours), and sit down for a pump session only for the tubes to suck in some water and the pump to make an audible slurping sound & stop. The pump was fried. I was so confused. I contacted Medela and the agent was incredibly friendly and next-day delivered me a new pump. As many of you know, that means I had to use my freemie/hand express/etc while my babe was in daycare and of course it led to a clogged duct which then led to mastitis.New pump arrives, i sanitize everything and get ready to test it’s travel-ability. Now that I was aware that the pump was sensitive, I took extra care to dry all the parts before putting it all together. I brought this pump in an American Airlines flight from FL to California and pumped in my seat. The small device went unnoticed my my neighbors and I was satisfied. The last day of my trip to California, I sit down for a pump session before heading back to the airport and the same water suction thing happened again. This is now a less than 5 day old replacement pump. The parts of my pump were completely wiped dry which leads me to think that somehow my milk got into the tubing…This tells me that these pumps are NOT closed system and the overflow protector doesn’t work well, so buyer beware. I am so disappointed in the quality of the pump, the overflow protector that failed in me twice, and the fact that neither brand new pump lasted longer than 5 days… I didn’t bother asking for another replacement. Now I have two broken medela units sitting in my house collecting dust because I was never sent a return label (any help, Medela?) .Long story short, disappointed. The over complicated overflow protector makes it so water/milk gets stuck and destroys your pump. I also must imagine that means it’s vest hard to actually sanitize. Don’t waste your money.. my crappy freemie is still going strong

Medela Hands Free PIS & pumping bra

I love this pump. I used the previous version of the Medela pump in style and the Spectra S2 as my primary pumps after my first child and this pump is just as effective for me! I get similar output across all three pumps, but I love the hands free parts for this updated pump. I don’t have to consider which bra I’m putting on in the morning because it’ll work with any and it’s really easy to wash and dry! My only complaint is that the battery pack doesn’t work. I put new batteries in, but it stops after a few minutes. It’s the same problem I had with the battery pack with the previous pump in style. It’s not hugely problematic since the plug and cord is plenty long, but would be nice to have in case!I also got Medelas pumping bra with this and LOVE it. It’s the most comfortable pumping bra I’ve ever owned and is super supportive. The fabric is so soft! Overall, I really like this product.

    Good hands free pump option

This is a good option for a pump if you would prefer to not have to change into a pumping bras each use. It is easy to use and overall a good pump. It doesn’t have the same portability of a hand free like the Elvie or Willow, but not quite as clunky and limiting like a traditional pump. I would consider this an option for your “main” pump vs a truly portable pump.Pros:Cups are see through so you can see expressionGood suction- I found this to be better output than a portable (like elvie)Easy assembly – few parts that make this easy to assemble and washCons:Can’t customize pumping per sideCan’t see how long you have been pumpingCan’t see what level you’re pumping atDifficult to disassemble- I often have trouble when trying to take apart the pieces to wash

Medela is a company to trust, beautiful pump

I was very fortunate to be able to try this medela pump for an honest review. I am a mother of two kids and exclusively pumped for both children. I currently am pumping now. My first baby I used the older version of the advanced in style and I loved it. It emptied me out wonderfully and I had such a good freezer stock. Then a year later I had my second child and my insurance offered me the freemie portable pump. I figured I would give it a try so I can be completely mobile while pumping. Not being connected to a wall is life changing. It makes pumping so much more enjoyable. However, sometimes I didn’t feel like I was getting completely emptied so I tried the new 2020 medela in style. When I first saw the pump I loved the look of it. The new flanges compared to the old ones look and feel much better. The machine part is smaller and cute looking. Even tho it is connected to the wall it is very small, and comes with a battery pack so pumping on the go is not a huge deal. I like how they changed the system to a closed system , so condensation no longer gets in the tubes. I also love the bag it came with. I also love the ice pack for the bottles. The pump is pretty quiet, and you don’t hear that annoying sound that over powers everything. The pump is also so easy to clean and they got rid of the duck bill part, so cleaning is a breeze!I did have a few cons I did not like about this pump. Going from portable to being plugged into the wall again was hard. With two kids, one kid always needs me and I always have to have someone with me at home while I pumped for the kids sake. Second, with the flange change, the grey part is in the way so it’s hard to see the placement on your nipples, and also it’s hard to see your output. I feel like the suction is not as good as the old model. I always feel like my breast are full after using this pump and I can hand express a decent amount after using. My biggest pet peeve is that you cannot tell what suction level you are at. All you push is plus and minus for suction and you never know what level you are at.Overall I always will trust medela and their products, however I love the older pump more then the new one. The new one is prettier but the other one worked better for me. I also have bigger breast and I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Very Functional Pump that Does the Job Well

As an exclusive pumper who has gone through many pumps since my youngest kiddo was born a few months ago, this pump has been the best one so far when it comes to milk output. I’ve used so many other well known brands, in both this pumping journey and the ones with my previous children, and Medela seems to do it best when it comes to output, which is obviously the most important thing in pumping.Of course, since this the most inexpensive pump Medela makes, you are sacrificing a lot of other “bells and whistles” that other pumps have, such as display screens, timers, and Bluetooth and app connectivity. If those things are important to you, I would spend the additional 40 or 50 bucks on another Medela brand pump that has those things. The other downside is the expensive cost of replacement parts. If something like a membrane wears out, you have to replace the whole thing, and it isn’t cheap. But overall, this is an excellent pump that gives amazing output. It has worked very well as my main pump, even with all the pumping I do during the day as an exclusive pumper.

    Fine but not perfect.

The power and portability are good. Only two size of the shields still fine. But the shields always fall off when using. You have to hold the shields all the time. You can find a lot of left milk inside the shield instead going into the bottle. And I find it is not easy to clean the bottle and the shield. I would try other pump.

Great pump, consistently gets more milk

This is a great update to the Pump In Style line. I highly recommend it for any mom looking for a strong pump that is easy to use on the go and that will consistently capture the most milk for the time spent pumping. Better yet, it’s been updated to look more modern and be even more portable without losing the powerful function which after all, is the most important aspect of any pump! What I loved:- Consistently got more milk with this pump which is in my opinion the #1 most important aspect- Small and very easy to take with on the go, including with a battery pack (critical if you’re not near an outlet)- Quieter, you can still hear it but it’s much more quiet than other pumps- Reduced parts that are easy to clean, huge plus- Updated membranes that are larger and hold up much better and impossible to forget when you’re packing your bag (which I’ve done with other pumps and it’s so frustrating)- Great tote and materials, which isn’t a must but after you pump so much and have to look at it multiple times EVERY DAY, it’s great to have something that’s aesthetically pleasingThings I would change (hardly anything):- would love if the battery pack was internal, better yet if the entire pump had a battery inside and didn’t require AAs at all- Extra membranes or if it was easier to buy just the membranesMedela in my opinion is the OG and gold standard in pump equipment, you can trust you’ll get a great, hardworking product. Looking forward to their next pump innovation (fully wearable pump PLEASE!).

    Noisy

This pump is very noisy. On the website it states it’s comparable to the symphony which it is nothing like the symphony. I had great output with the symphony and not so great with this pump. I tried contacting medela about the noise to see if it’s normal by email and messenger with no response. Other than that, I like how small it is. Not a fan that you need a battery pack for it rather than it being rechargeable. It came with everything you need though.

    Disappointed

I bought this because I have been having issues with my milk supply, I thought maybe my pump was the problem after going through a million flanges and finally settling on the right size. This was not it. The pump is loud but it’s even worse if you put it on a hard surface. It vibrates like crazy and makes a whole bunch of noise. There is no screen so I can’t tell how long I’ve been pumping, though I knew that when I bought it, but not having that convenience was a lot worse than I thought. The suction is ok, max suction is pretty strong but, since there’s no screen it’s hard to know what level you’re on. It says it has 10 levels of suction but it feels more like 6. It’s a nice size, so theoretically it would be easy to carry around, but because of the shape it’s a little hard to hold and the little string on the side is supposed to help, but really it’s not great. Also, it needs a battery pack to be portable, not sure why they didn’t just make it rechargeable. I guess this pump could could work well for some,I bought it due to the good reviews. But for me, I was getting much less milk than with my Lansinoh pump, which is a big problem when you are already having supply issues. Unfortunately because I can’t return it, I’m stuck with it. I’ll probably use it as a back up in case something happens with my Lansinoh. In the mean time, it’ll just collect dust somewhere.

    Not Medela’s best pump

I am on my third adventure with nursing and this third time around I am exclusively pumping. In the past I used the older version of the Pump in Style Advanced by Medela when I needed to pump. I purchased a new pump in style Advanced by Medela and I am very disappointed with this “Updated” breast pump.A few things specifically that are not as good with their updated version are:1) The initial suction process is slower. Because of this I have to pay more attention when I’m starting the process of pumping because it is easy for the shields to not be properly aligned and to move out of place. I can’t even count the number of times I haven’t paid attention and I look down after five minutes of pumping and I’m not pumping out milk because I’m not aligned correctly.2) I am not a fan of the new tube for the updated Pump in style advanced. Because both bottles are connected to one tube that connects to the pump, if one bottle gets knocked over and starts to leak, two bottles actually get knocked over and end up leaking. Any pumping mom knows, that spilled milk results in lots of tears and, in my case, a few curse words.3) Hands-down the old model of the pump in style advanced pumps more milk In a shorter amount of time. It is just overall more efficient and a better pump. I use my five year old pump in style advanced pump more than I use the new one. The old model is reliable and in my opinion a better product.A few benefits to those of you who Have decided to purchase the new Medela pump in style advanced:1) It is easier to clean the pump parts.2) You can potentially fill a bottle up higher because of the design for the valves for this pump.3) The pump doesn’t come in a backpack or large black bag, it comes with a bag but overall it’s smaller than the older version and can be thrown in any bag.

    Battery pack not well designed

As most have stated: this is the best pump I’ve used when it is working. I would have stopped nursing by now if it wasn’t for this pump due to working full tone and my previous pump hurting. That being said, the battery pack which makes it functional for me during my commute fell apart this morning. The little metal piece that connects the batteries literally flies out of the pump and the batteries explode out if you don’t hold them in. The first couple times I changed the batteries I had to do so with such care. This morning I finally lost the little metal piece because it flew out in a direction I couldn’t see. Now the whole battery pack is useless and I can’t pump during my lunch break.

    It’s ok ** updated to 5 stars

I’ve had this pump about 2 days and one of the connectors thing keeps leaking also had to order another set of membranes (the yellow round thing) because they’re not fitting as well after the second wash/sanitize. The pumping part is more comfortable that the wearable pump I have. So far, it doesn’t pump more than the other wearable pump. I’ll contact customer support and will update review. Month later update: the company did replace the connectors but they still leak. I was not satisfied with this pump. Save yourself some money and get the hand pump or a momcozy.3 month update – things got better and their customer support was amazing at helping me solve the issues I was having with the pump. Changed to 5 stars.

    Decent pump

I first want to say, to the negative comments about the milk output, a lot of women don’t size themselves properly and blame the pump itself for the amount of milk they were able to pump. Even though 24mm is the standard size for all pumps, a small percentage of woman are actually that size. I did have to purchase flange inserts because 24mm was too big for me, but the inserts are compatible with many pumps. Ok, moving on.I honestly bought it because I liked the way it looked on other moms who pumped. When wearing it with a pumping bra and nursing top, it’s very discreet. It comes with the standard power supply cord, battery pack, cooler bag, extra bottles with lids and a carrying bag.Very straight forward and easy to put together, nothing complicated about the assembly. Easy to clean with no hard to get to places where you need 6 different brushes to clean it. It’s very compact, which I like and has multiple suction levels. It’s pretty powerful for such a small unit. The flanges are more comfortable than most I’ve used, they have a very soft rim that forms to the breast which I like. It’s designed to be hands free, so a pumping bra is a must with this. The noise level is ok, I wish it was a bit quieter, but you can’t complain too much for the price.I like that it comes with a battery pack, not rechargeable, it needs 8 AA.All in all it’s a decent pump, especially for working moms who have to pump at work. It’s portable and comes with everything you need to pump on the go.

I like the pump. My first one broke after a few months and I’m not sure why. But I liked it enough to buy a second one. I’ve been using this second one for a few months and so far so good.

Great for hard to express breasts!

This pump is amazing. Think the suction and reliability of the Medela manual pump with half the time and none of the forearm workout.

    Okay pump

This pump is okay. I would not use this as my everyday pump, only when I’m in a pinch and need the convenience of just putting the cups in my bra quickly. Does not work as well as my Spectra pump and I think if used regularly would hurt my supply.

    Perfect for the working mom!

Honestly this is probably the only pump you’ll ever need. I’ve been using this for 17 weeks straight, and so far it’s just as fantastic as the day I bought it.This pump comes with a bag that holds everything it comes with, which makes it easy to pack up and load back and forth to work. It comes with a cooler and an ice pack specifically made for keeping the bottles cold. The cooler/icepack combo holds 4, five ounce bottles and keeps my milk cold over my 12 hour shifts! The pump also comes a with a battery power source so you can literally pump in your car.10/10!!

Great at-home pump, but I still use the Freestyle Flex for travel

I’ll start out by saying, I started my pumping journey with the Medela Freestyle Flex. I’m sure there are other mamas comparing the two (or at least portable vs. plug-in pumps) so I’ll go over the differences and pros/cons I’ve found using both. I really liked the freedom of slipping the Flex in my sweater pocket and pumping while I walked around the house. It was also easily portable – making pumping in the car or while we were “out and about” very easy. However, once I received this new Medela Pump in Style, I realized the Flex was totally lacking in power and I now almost exclusively use this In Style while at home.-POWER/SPEED: Using this In Style sped up my daily pumping (PRO) AND it felt like I was getting more milk (PRO.) What would usually take me 20+ minutes with the Flex, I was finishing in maybe 10 minutes with the In Style.-PORTABILITY: The biggest CON I have with the In Style is that it needs to be plugged in. So you’re stuck in one spot. That said, you’re only stuck for 10ish minutes, so that’s not bad.-TRAVEL: Since I have the Flex, I haven’t tried traveling with this In Style. It’s small (PRO) so can easily slip in a bag, but I don’t believe it came with a car outlet (CON) so you’ll have to find an outlet wherever you are. It would be fine if you’re only bringing it to work. But if you’re planning on pumping in a car, you’ll need an adapter.-DEVICE USABILITY: One smaller CON I have with the In Style is that there’s no digital screen – so no timer or no way of knowing what power “level” you’re at. I got really used to the digital timer/level on the Flex and I found it very helpful. If I had to choose one pump, I’d probably choose the In Style as long as I found a vehicle adapter that could support it. As a mom, my available time is fleeting so it’s sometimes painful to be stuck at the outlet when I actually have a few free moments to myself, but overall, not the end of the world as it’s usually a fast session.

Best pump I’ve used so far!

Medela ReviewI began my pumping journey with the original Pump n style, then upgraded to the Max flow. Here are the differences I noticed:Pump n style:-I felt like I was hooked to a machine, it felt very mechanical and I had loads of issues with my let downs!-It was loud and the unit moved quite a bit, which is also why I feel the way I mentioned above.-output wasn’t great (for me personally), I had good days with it, but never great-The flanges fit me well, but did have solid plastic edges-Bottles felt pretty secure and any leaning issues I ever had was user errorMax Flow:-I did see an increase in milk!-Much quieter, more gentle, and felt less mechanical, which also equally better and easier let downs!-I like the molded fit of the flanges, it felt more comfortable and natural on the body. The sizing is a little different and they didn’t fit as well for me as with the pump n style, but it’s okay because they’re all interchangeable.-The membranes are fantastic and easy to wash! I did have an issue with one tearing and you can not replace just the membrane so you have to buy a whole new SET of connector heads (which are like $28-30) BUT, I called Medela and they were awesome in getting a new set out to me for free and they even rush shipped them! I was super impressed with their customer service.-Much “prettier” of a unit, and also came with an awesome travel bag, portable battery pack for a cordless options, and The travel ice pack and cooler!-The only downside with this one for me is that (again, user error) I have had not only more spills, but have lost larger volumes of milk during spills. Here’s why.. the membrane and connector head are completely different and there are two big skits on the side of them, if you’re pumping at an angle and/or lean over for something, etc it doesn’t take much for the milk to just spill out, especially if the bottles are full.Overall, Hands down I’d pick the Max Flow! One thing I added [that works with either unit] that was a lifesaver for me is the car charger!! I may or may not frequently pump on long drives hahaha

    The vibration feature is great!

I was so luckily nominated to try out the new madela pump in style maxflo breast pump. I work at a child care center and I rely on having a pump at work. My coworkers mom so happened to nominate me, she works at madela. I received a gift card from madela to purchase the pump and I would like to share my honest experience. After trying it out, there are some things I love and a few things I dislike. I like the carrying bag, it looks more like a purse which is nice If you prefer being discreet. I like how the tubbing is one piece and it actually stays plugged in versus my other madela pump where the tubbing would always fall out mid pump session. I like the vibrations, it feels more realistic and gentle. Finally, I like how the peices are designed where I can clean each peice properly. With my other madela pump, you cannot get inside of the connectorsNow for my dislikes….I do not like how the buttons are set up. I prefer a turning nob that shows the level of section versus pushing a + button. I also wish there was more levels of suction. The let down suction also does not seem to last long enough to bring my let down but that might just be my body. It might just be me but I wish I could actually see my milk through the shields it seems to be hidden when attached to the connectors. Finally, the milk does not always seem to fall into the bottle right away, sometimes I have to lean forward for it to come down.Overall, it has it’s flaws but it is a decent pump with some great features, the vibrations being my favorite. Thank you madela for giving me the opportunity to try it out.

4/5 gets the job done could be a little better

The noise level is better than my previous (Zomee) pump which is nice, I’d say the suction is about the same but this one has more levels of suction and I have yet to max it out i think. It also has less pieces to clean than my Zomee pump which is nice. But the downsides are that you can’t see the let down. The phalanges are not see thru at all. I often massage my breast to increase let down but since i can’t see the let down idk if i should keep massaging that area or not. I often crane my neck to look into the bottle part to see if there’s let down. Also it doesn’t say what level of suction you are on, nor does it have a timer. My Zomee pump had both of these and was cheaper than this pump. Also one of the biggest downsides compared to my Zomee is that it is not rechargeable. It does have a battery pack that you can attach, but my Zomee was totally rechargeable and could be wireless. I use both pumps, but i was hoping the Medela would be a lot better than my Zomee pump and i found them to be about the same. I use my Zomee when I’m on the go due tonthe wireless portability and my Medela when I’m home and the baby is napping since its quieter and has a little bit of a stronger suction. Overall I’d give it a 4/5. Also note that this product is not returnable once opened.

    Brand name means nothing

I purchased this pump because I assumed it would be a good quality pump considering it’s the same brand as the Medela Symphony, which is the gold-standard hospital grade pump. That was not a good assumption. The very first and biggest problem I noticed is just how obnoxiously loud it is. (Like, I would have never thought a pump would be designed to be that loud!) To muffle it, I have to hang it from a bag off of our nursing chair to be a reasonable nose level. Second, the suction is inconsistent. It may start strong, but then it slowly loses suction, only to then get it back randomly 10 minutes later when you suddenly feel it. Not a pleasant surprise. Third, the design is clearly lacking. There is no display to show you what level you’re at with regard to suction. I feel like this has become a pretty standard feature on most decent pumps these days. Not sure how I missed that before I bought it.It’s not all bad though. One thing I do like is how easy it is to clean. The pieces come apart easily, so that is definitely in the positive column. But that’s also about all I like about it. I’ve been trying to get used to it over the last two months, and I’m finally giving up and buying a different one.Don’t make the same mistake I did thinking a Medela brand pump would be great based on the hold they have on the hospital grade pump market.

    Great pump. Loud obnoxious noise

The media could not be loaded.

This pump is awesome. The suction is amazing. The comfort is next level. My only complaint is the noise. It’s not only loud but it’s a grating rattling noise (video included). I expected some noise but this thing is pretty unsettling for my baby. A screen would be nice of course, and a night light but reliability is key and this pump has that. It’s easy to clean and assemble. I love that the single side set up is so simple and easy to use. The shields are so comfortable, though the two that come with the pump are not my size I had to order separately but I expected that as almost any pump I could buy would have the same issue. I have no complaints about the battery pack but I don’t use it, so look to others for info on that. I love that it came with 4 bottles, an ice pack and a cooler case that is awesome, and a travel case! Please spoil me more. This is overall a wonderful purchase. My biggest issue is outweighed by how wonderfully this pump feels and functions.

    Good pump, incorrect tubing

I have same pump from insurance. Had to buy a back up one night as it was malfunctioning and exclusive pumper. My insurance pump ended up being fine so I’ve mostly used accessories in box. I like the bag and ice box a lot. I needed to switch out my tubing so I decided to use tubing that came with this pump. I noticed I was getting less suction with same settings and less 2-3 oz less milk with pump (ended u having to hand express at end). Upon inspection of tubing I noticed it was slightly different than my original tubing with my insurance issued pump. Posted pics for comparisons. The tube on left came with the pump kit from Amazon (right is original tubing). I called customer service and they were able to help out with issue. Bought new tubing from store so I could actually check it out before purchasing and is correct tubing. Hopefully milk expressed via pump returns to normal. Everything else in kit seems fine, just double check tubing because it seems to make a difference!

Don’t buy if you pump at low suction.

I pump at low suction as otherwise, it hurts. My insurance Spectra has been doing great with it but when this came on sale I bought it as a back up + the smaller size and portability due to a battery pack was enticing.Unfortunately, this pump fails to draw the milk from connector into the collection bottle at low suction pressure.(Pic attached – I lose the milk + it is all over my pumping bra, body, bedsheet!!)Has been happening since day one and I did lot of troubleshooting+ ensuring all parts are assembled correctly. Finally realized, it’s not me. It is the pump. When I turn the suction at high, this problem doesn’t happen but this solution isn’t gonna work for me.It is also much louder than the Spectra but never bothered me as white noise is always in the background at night and during daytime the ambient sounds help dull the pump sound. Also, if you are used to Spectra, not being able to see your milk flow into the collection bottle is a drawback. I feel Medela has made the connector unnecessarily bulky as well.

    Great hands free pump

I am a first time Mom and this pump has worked really well for me! I am both breastfeeding and limping and I love the compact and portability of this pump. Extra milk

I love this pump!!! I went through 4 motif Luna pumps in 4 months…the suction stopped on each one. So I bought this one as a quick need. I thought I only produced 5-7oz but this pump let me know other wise. It’s not as loud as I thought it would be based on other reviews, the only thing that prevents it from getting 5 stars is the lack of digital screen to know how long I’ve been pumping and a night light (which the luna had). Medela has always been a trusted brand in my opinion so I’m happy with my purchase!

Suction is good, but spills milk. Stops.

I’ve been using this as my main pump since receiving it end of March (2 months ago). A couple of weeks ago, it would sometimes stop working mid-pump and since it doesn’t have a timer, it’s easy to lose track of how much time you have left to pump. It would work again after 1 or 2 restarts. Suction is otherwise good, but due to the medela open connection system, milk spills even with small movements. This machine is louder than any other machines I’ve tried (symphony, Ameda myjoy, and Imani)I like the portability, but you have to use 8 AA batteries for the battery pack. I ordered rechargeable AA batteries to lower the cost.I thought this was going to be my pump for the remainder of my pumping journey for this pregnancy, but due to milk spills, I am looking for a new pump.

    Great wearability

This new wearable pump combined with the more compact medela pump in style make pumping at home or traveling that much easier. The minimal pump pieces makes a big difference in cleaning. It is super easy to use and reassemble after washing/drying.My supply has stayed consistent while using this product. I highly recommend this as the less bulky and portable perks are the best features!

    Price is great

The best part about this pump is the price. It’s very affordable compared to others which is great if your insurance doesn’t cover a pump. I thought it was easy to use and like the design. I do wish it came with a rechargeable battery. I also wish there was an electric display that showed the level of suction I was on or time pumping. I also wish it was completely hands free to make it more convenient.

    Hands free

It works great! The only thing is it’s portability isn’t the best, the mechanic of it is still big and you have to use like 6plus batteries for the “portable hands free” one plus the non-plug in isn’t hands free it’s attached to the machine and it’s clunky. The batteries don’t last long or give as good of a pump as the wall plug in does. If you just want this knowing you’re going to sit for plus 20min then this is great but if you think you’re going to want a pump that does both find a different pump because this ain’t it.

    Great Pump

I was hesitant to purchase this pump (I used my insurance benefits to buy the Spectra Synergy Gold as my every day pump). But I was extremely impressed. This is my travel pump and it far exceeded my expectations based on other reviews.Pros:Easy to set up and use.Battery powered so it’s portable if needed. (I have pumped in the car)Easy to cleanCon:Suction is better with the power cord versus the batter pack. BUT if you keep the batteries charged (I use rechargeable batteries) then it works perfectly fine. Suction will decrease as battery life decreases.I would recommend!

    Medela Pump In Style

I bought the Pump In Style with the original intent to use it as my primary way of pumping while exclusively breastfeeding my baby. After my baby was born, my supply was not sufficient to fully feed my baby throughout the day. I did not want to give up, so I pumped (and still pump) as much as I could with my Medela Pump in Style. This pump is easy to use and conveniently includes a battery pack so you can carry it around with you. However, even the “carry it around with you” option wasn’t good enough for me to get stuff done, especially once I returned to work. I ended up buying a wearable pump to use during the day or when I need to get stuff done around the house. I do still use my Medela in the morning and night times when I’m at home and can sit down for 15-30 minutes to pump. It gets better suction, and I get a better volume, than with my wearable pump. It’s a good pump – not the best, but definitely not the worst.

    Love this!

I was going through mastitis terribly and my pump I got through insurance did not help. Shape was round and very uncomfortable. Also did not empty my breasts properly. Not to mention the suction pattern did not help for me( motif portable pump) this pump immediately upon using it felt much better with the silicone suction flanges and got way more milk out MUCH faster. Pumping was a very long process from start to finish for me. Now it’s actually within the recommended time of 15-20 min ( I was not experiencing that before) even with my over supply of milk. I’m very grateful this product exists and it is well worth the investment. Super satisfied. The noise is a bit loud and it would be nice to have an LED screen that has a flashlight for night pumping and time tracking ( when you’re a zombie in the middle of those night feedings) but the product works very well. I did have to purchase separate flanges because I am a 27mm so I bought 2 sets. Also bought rechargeable batteries for the mobile option; it only gives you a few uses out of the (8) double A batteries required. I’d rather save money long term since I plan to breastfeed for at least a year. Has been working great, no motor malfunctions or glitches. So much easier to clean than other pumps I’ve had & Medela is so good about having all the products needed from expelling all the way through to baby’s feed. Love!

    Very disappointed

I got this pump needing something hands free only to find out its not actually hands free considering it isn’t cordless and needs a battery pack.My main complaint is the output. I chose this one based on the consistent comments stating it increased their output. I have a zomee z2 pump that I got through insurance and I can get 6 or 7 ounces out of each side during both a midnight pump and first thing in the morning. With this pump, I don’t even get 5 ounces which is really confusing to me.Also, the instructions said when removing the cups, lean forward to allow remaining milk in the tunnel drain into the cup. Mine does not and milk goes everywhere and makes a huge mess either in my bra or I spill it on myself removing the cups which is VERY annoying.Overall, I’m very disappointed with my first medela product and after this experience, I dont plan on trying another product from them.

    Great breast pump!

My wife delivered my micro preemie at 24 weeks due to early onset preeclampsia and finding out she have a clotting disorder. We had ordered this while it was on sale on Black Friday, she chose this pump because a lot of the parts are compatible the the hospital grade pumps. My wife is a postpartum nurse and chose this pump over others for that reason. The Medela is wired but has both a battery operated wiring or one that plugs into the wall. You can’t necessarily stick it in your bra and go but you can use it on the go with the battery operated power source. It is a double breast pump as well. Some lactation consultants tried to convince us to return it and rent the hospital grade one, but she had no issues with supply using this pump. Honestly, my wife preferred it to the hospital grade pumps because it was strong enough to establish and maintain a supply with out causing sore nipples.

Functions well, but obnoxiously loud pump

The pump set up is easy overall. Parts are relatively simple to clean. The biggest issue is how loud the pump is… I would have purchased the Sonata or another quieter pump, even at the higher price, if I had known just how gratingly obnoxious this pump sounds. You cannot be on a phone call or video chat while pumping, and irritating overall to listen to while pumping multiple times per day.

    Convenient and stress free

Really pleased with this pump! I own a hospital grade pump and mostly avoided it due to it being a bit intimidating and it was such a process to get set up! I also never felt that I could relax while pumping with the obnoxious cones/bottles hanging off me. This Medela pump has made pumping much easier and less mentally draining. So nice to be able to sit back and slip them into my bra. Love that I can travel with it as well. The one thing I would change is perhaps knowing what the expression volume is at – you kind of have to guess due to there not being a screen to measure levels.

    One year, three pumps

Do yourself a favor and do not buy this pump. I pumped for 45 mins to an hour to empty my breast and I thought, being a first time mom, that it was just me and I had a slow let down. If I hadnt been a wfh mom this alone would have ruined my breastfeeding journey. Then 8 months in, my pump completely lost suction. I frantically ordered a replacement and i was SHOCKED to have my replacement work so well that I was empty on 15 minutes. Turns out there is nothing wrong with me, my pump was just defective the entire time. Now I’m at month 11 and my pump turns on but the motor takes a good minute to start after the suction starts….I have a feeling it’s about to give out again. Absolutely CRAZY that you spend $300 on a piece of equipment that doesn’t even make it the first year. I’m about to have to order a THIRD. I would have gone with a different kind but I’m at the end of my journey and I didn’t want to have to get all new bottles and accessories. I can’t imagine how many sweet moms had their breastfeeding journeys completely ruined by this defective pump. It looks like based on the reviews that they made a new model around 2022 and that’s when everything started declining in quality. I will be investing in a different pump if I have another child. Breastfeeding is stressful enough.
