    Stunning, Thin product

This is such an amazing, portable product. The clarity and color is pristine, vibrant, and pleasant. The screen slides into padded sleeve. When the sleeve is removed, it folds into a monitor stand. The stand seemed a bit awkward at first, but after understanding how to use it I think it works great! (fold and attach Velcro end to the other end, choose one of the two incline angles and lift the appropriate flap to hold the monitor in position). There is no place to store the cable, so I have to plan where to pack that when I travel. I don’t jamb it in the sleeve to avoid a strain on the monitor case or cracking screen while traveling. I can’t think of an elegant alternative that Asus could have done, and making a place for that in or on the outside of the sleeve would make it more bulky or awkward. This is the only downside. The screen performance, thin profile, and excellent product build quality far outweigh this inconvenience.

This portable monitor has been a good solution, but it is not perfect. The picture angle that the holder provides is a little awkward and I’ve tried everything but I can’t get the view to turn when I turn the monitor up right. However, it is a good option for when I’m traveling.

Amazing for WFH Set Up in Small Spaces

This has been a game changer in terms of productivity when working from home. It is also super convenient to travel with as the stand also doubles as a carrying case. When I work from home I sit at the kitchen table and this gives me the flexibility of an easy set up and tear down. The quality and utility of this screen are truly exceptional for the price.

    Okay display, Terrible case/stand

I bought multiple monitors to try to compare picture quality and overall features between them looking for one to keep. I started with just one from a lesser known brand and 2K resolution thinking that it was exactly what I wanted. When I ended up disappointed with it I ordered several more options to better compare and find one I liked. To be fair this is the only Asus one I tried as it was in my price range and some of the more expensive ones might have been better but I didn’t need to spend that much on the competition to be happy with the results. I had high hopes for Asus as I use their components in other parts of my life – Motherboards and GPUs for sure. However this product was surely disappointing compared to lesser known and less expensive alternatives. My BIGGEST complaint with it, by far, was the “case/stand” combo. This thing is terrible. I don’t know how others can say they live with it but this thing felt like a bad joke from the moment I took it all out of the box. This alone really ended up being a deal breaker for me but I tried to give it a fair shot in the display. I will say the display was nice and bright and had a decent image but the other product that was in the lead of the 4 I sampled was still better and cheaper. If you can get past the case or have a good alternative for standing it up this display isn’t bad. But my main issue was out of the box, it still felt like an inferior product to my alternatives.

    My first portable monitor

I like using this portable monitor just to help my work efficiency when I’m on my laptop. I’ve been used to using 2 monitors for 10+ years, so sometimes it’s frustrating not having that on a laptop. This solved my issue. I also like that I only have to plug in USB C cable to power the monitor and give it signal, very convenient.I originally bought a cheaper Chinese monitor on Prime Day, but I returned that and got Asus instead since it’s a brand I trust (my last 2 laptops were from Asus). The only problem is: For the love of god ASUS, make the differences clear between your different models of similar monitors. I even asked for help on their customer chat through their website and their employees didn’t really know the differences. The website doesn’t make the differences obvious either when you directly compare two models. It’s just lazy and bad for sales. Why would I spend $50 more on similar model when I don’t even know the difference? Of course I’m going to get this cheaper model if I can’t find a good enough reason to pay more

    Not stable in stand.

Worst thing is the stand, which barely keeps the monitor upright. Movement of the table threatens it. The (more expensive) version of this monitor M16ACV with the kickstand is far better. I gather the display is the same, but build-wise and stability-wise, it’s a big difference to be able to just swing out the kickstand and use it without fussing with the case to make it the stand and then worrying about it falling over. The sleeve the ACV version comes with is far better.

    Ok 2nd review after replacement

(1st purchase) Multiple Type-C cables, Mutliple Devices with same result Type-c No signal, Powers on fine , charges fine , will not display a picture, and Asus customer support was probably the worst customer tech support i have ever had with any product, The support person was nice enough but completely lacking in knowledge, offered no solution except send it in and it will take at least 2 weeks . AT least 2 weeks to evaluate and determine the course of action .They couldnt even read to understand how the device is capable of functioning , i had to argue and then copy and paste directly from the product description to prove what they were saying was incorrect( After replacement)Ok so some of my opinions have changed after getting an actual working product, while I do still hold onto my support problems opinions, getting a working product changes those opinions, the monitor is plug and play without requiring all the different drivers that support was telling me to use on the previous one, the battery life is about 3 hours while connected to my smartphone, and yes it works with my Samsung phone with the dex function , the color and picture are really nice , it works really well for video viewing, so over all I would recommend this for a nice portable screen

    Convenient Connectivity with Minor Flaws

The Asus travel screen offers good connectivity and the inclusion of a case and cord is a nice touch. However, the case feels flimsy and doesn’t offer much flexibility in positioning the monitor. I found a separate tablet stand necessary for better support. The monitor itself feels a bit cheap but does the job for an open-box price. At full price, though, I’d expect higher quality.

    Extra Monitor when Traveling

2nd unit we have purchased as my wife liked the idea. She carries the extra monitor along in her laptop bag for use when working remotely, at home, etc. Very handy, easy set-up and screen very clear and wide for spreadsheets. Carrying case is a little awkward, and no pocket for the screen cord, but otherwise simple. Even with instructions it was difficult to understand how to fold the case and use the velcro tabs to set up a tent to lean the monitor against. Works well though and light weight.

    Best travel screen/ wfh hack

I saw a colleague with a portable screen from Amazon and asked her about it and she sent me a link to some random one and said sometimes it doesn’t hook up right. I was determined to find a portable name brand screen and then, I found this Asus portable screen! It is perfect and just what I needed to feel productive when I travel and have a second screen to utilize and improve my work flow. Easy to use, quick set up and it is a valued name brand.

  18. Joseph

    Perfect for Travel

Everything about this is nice – except one thing. The way the screen is held in place seems a little shoddy when on its stand. It uses fabricated material to stay in place, which overtime (I believe) could eventually wear out. I have not taken it into austere environments yet – but once I do, I will be sure to provide an update.

This completely transforms my laptop!!I like it!

I have basically now turned my laptop into a portable Desktop with a portable extra keypad, my portable data saver, and now, my portable second monitor! I like this so if I want to go somewhere I can take all with me in the briefcase. Only drawback is I have nothing to protect this new screen monitor with. I need something. With2 screens it completely transforms my laptop. I wanted a desktop but with all I have I don’t need it anymore. I am enjoying and grateful for this screen. And it doesn’t blur like the Monitor someone gave me does when attaching it to the laptop. Yea!! Thank you Asus!!! Now work on making your $2000.00 phone better and stronger!!

Fine display – tripod “mount” leaves something to be desired.

Most everything about this monitor is good – its light, thin, bright, looks good, and only needs the one USB-C cable to run.Where it falls apart is the tripod mount (which is the sole reason I bought this version of the display). Yes, it has a 1/4″-20 threaded socket on the back, but it’s 1) shallow, and 2) raised up above the adjacent surface. If you’re planning to use a magic arm, or a non-quick-release ball-head tripod, it will most likely work perfectly fine. If you want to use it with something like an Arca-Swiss QR plate, it’s NOT going to work. There isn’t enough socket depth or surface area around the socket to properly attach a QR plate.Thankfully I had enough bits and bobs lying around to cobble together something to make it work.

    Compatibilidad

Fragile, USB-C only, poor screen stand

At first I was really happy to get a lightweight external screen that I can carry in my laptop bag. However… I soon discovered that signal and power must come from a single USB-C cable, with no alternative. For some reason, my mouse cursor (mouse plugged into a different port, USB-A) started slowing down at times, when the screen is plugged in. The screen stand is just the carry sleeve, folded. The screen tends to slide and fall. The angle is not adjustable. After one month of use, I plugged the screen this morning, only to find that it is broken. I always used the carry sleeve and I’ve always been very careful. I suspect they screen might have warped due to cold temperatures (I carried my bag in the trunk of my car in subzero temperatures yesterday). It is now broken and unusable. It’s not a huge surprise since the frame is very thin and fragile plastic.

    Lightweight and easy to use

ASUS ZenScreen 15.6” (MB166C) – I travel and work from the road frequently. At home I have 2 24″ monitors but on the road I was relying only on my 13.5″ laptop, which made me less efficient when working with several documents or spreadsheets at the same time. Amazon has many choices, including some brands I have never heard of, at cheaper prices. I went with ASUS because me and my family have had several ASUS laptops all of which have been great. This monitor checks all the boxes for me. At 15.6″ it still fits in my travel laptop/electronics bag, it is lightweight and seems well made. The only connection is the included USB-C chord and all I have to do is connect it and the monitor comes to live. The display is great for what I need, spreadsheets, documents, and watching movies/videos. I am not a gamer so I cannot speak to whether this unit would be good for that. The monitor comes with a storage sleeve that folds to double as a stand. It’s a simple setup but works for me There are a couple tabs that keep the monitor from sliding off the stand. I did not notice this at first but once I figured it out, I am quite happy with how it works. One thing to keep in mind is that because the laptop feeds power to the monitor, the laptop battery runs out quicker (on my laptop it reduces battery life by about half), so you will need to have your chord and have access to power if you plan to work long hours.Overall, a great buy and I am very happy with it.

Excellent solution for my business trips

It is all I wanted to have while travelling. I always struggled to work with just my laptop monitor. This monitor though small is a very powerful 15.6″, light weight and fits perfectly along with my laptop in my laptop trolley travel bag. It made working while on the move or even when home much more productive.USB-C makes it very practical as there is no messy cables laying around to connect the monitor to the laptop and get it working. The USB-C cable length is more than enough to have the monitor connected and placed next to the laptop. The ZenScreen sleeve is excellent way to protect the monitor when packing it in the laptop bag. Make sure though to treat it the same way as your laptop monitor. Make sure nothing is pushing directly on it.A couple of things though to be aware of before buying this model1. Make sure your laptop USB-C port support DISPLAYPORT OVER USB-C (DP Alt mode) otherwise the monitor wont work and you will get no signal.2. Do not waste time using the sleeve included as a stand as described in the product details page. The stand function is completely useless. It is very weak and can barely hold the monitor. The monitor can easily fall and get damaged. I would strongly suggest you get a proper compact foldable stand that take the weight of the monitor. I got Amazon Basics Multi-Angle Portable Stand for iPad Tablet, E-reader and Phone and it can hold the screen perfectly.A final note. I bought mine through Amazon Warehouse for an cheap price (78$). It came in excellent condition in original packing. Not a single scratch and nothing was missing.

Excelente opcion como segunda pantalla portatil

Excelente por el precio ofrecido. Muy portable. Genial la idea de que el estuche sea el soporte también.

  33. Dieter

    Almost perfect.

The monitor in itself is as advertised and is a dream to with, it raise my productiveness by a big margin. I am on the move a lot and having a second monitor is an immense benefit to my productivity. The only problem is the protective cover. It looks great but has a major flaw. That is it is only a protective cover in the sense of scratch protection. I would have liked if it was also protecting from fall damage. Alas it is not. Therefore only 4 stars.

A Perfect and Affordable Steam Deck Monitor

I needed something to be able to do some desktop mode work without turning my spine into a question mark.Very strong color for the price and doesn’t drain the steam deck battery as much as I thought with its own power saving mode and brightness settings.Overall I’m happy to be able to bring this with me in a seperate hard case packed in back pack and to work with my onewheel.

    nice light thin portable monitor

It’s really nice portable monitor. Connected to Macbook air via supplied usb-c cable and worked as second monitor. Itwas very usable. The color seemed pretty good. also able to connect to ipad mini(6th gen) with usb-c and have it mirror the screen. No noticeable lag.I am returning it though. There’s no way to connect to HDMI sources which was part of reason I bought a monitor. If you are looking for solid portable screen for your macbook this would be it. pretty simple and seems very solid. super light too.

    Sleek and Compact

I needed a 2nd screen for work and school while traveling it was came in so clutch. Great resolution and super easy setup every time. We even use it for the gaming consoles when traveling. A++++ for sure.

    Good screen, okay case

The screen works well. I spent more money getting an ASUS because I know they make great screens and it would last me. It’s very easy to get up and running. I set it up with my work computer and my personal computer with no issues at all on either machine. The case that it comes with is good for protecting the screen during storage and transportation. I wish there was a pocket to put the lightning cable that it came with. You can either carry the cable around in your computer bag or stuff it behind the screen in the case, which isn’t really ideal for me. The case is also supposed to be used as a stand when the screen is in use. That works okay, but there’s really only one angle you can have the screen sitting at. It can be difficult to prop it up in another manner.Overall, good product. It’s a good screen, but I wish the case could be better.

Could not get it to work with my Macbook Air

My son-in-law has one of these and it’s brilliant. I purchased it as I spend a lot of time travelling, and having a screen to connect to my laptop makes absolute sense.Unfortunately, it was not compatible with my Macbook Air.I did a software update, and downloaded the relevant drivers-but nothing. It’s a 2015, so I’m guessing age comes into it, but I went on to purchase Thunderbolt 2 adaptor, HDMi adaptors, and USB-A to USB-C, and nothing worked.I’m gutted, because I know with the Windows laptop it worked like a dream.

  42. Dwayne Westmoreland

    Will work for the price

So far, I am so good, and I use it less than 3 to five times per week.I own a cyber security firm we use our computer equipment 24/7. I am moving from a Mac to Dell / Windows because most of my client base is Windows users. So what better way to understand their headache than have them myself? That being said, the monitor is clear and easy to see, connects without issues, is the perfect size to fit in my laptop bag, is lightweight, and the tripod mount on the back is the ideal way to set it up; it is very flexible and sturdy with the right tabletop tripod. The only issue I have, the cable is too thick and stiff, and the ends are too large. Simple fix, right? Well no. I’ve tried different cables Windows will only detect the monitor using the cable that came with it. This leads me to believe that the large size of the ends is due to an embedded chip—a second issue. The case on the monitor feels very flimsy and plasticky. This may be okay; I am used to the substantial feel of the Mac products’ aluminum cases. Even my new Dell mobile workstation is made of solid aluminum as well. And for a mobile device to last miles of travel in a laptop bag, it has to be made well. Time will tell. It is an okay portable monitor. Is it the best? No, not by any means, but I didn’t pay $500 for it. Then, would I want to travel with a $500 monitor in my bag? Probably not. Bottom line, for the price, it will get the job done.

    Great portable monitor.

We have two. My spouse uses one as a portable second monitor when working at showings or appointments with clients, and I use one as a third monitor mounted on adesk monopod using the tripod mount in my home office. Good display and well made. My AOC portable display is better, but heavier and more expensive.

Initial Impression – Great Monitor, Cast Stand TBD

I just got this portable monitor. Out of the box my immediate thought was, “Where is the kickstand?” I then realized the case needs to be folded over on itself to create the stand. For the first test of the monitor, I just held it as I plugged it into the computer. It immediately worked and seems to have a great picture. Later, I figured out how the case / stand works, and it seems like it will be OK, but have not yet used it in a real setting.

Excellent travel monitor for my needs

My job is typical “technical road warrior”. Lots of computer time on the road, in hotels, etc. For my use case, this monitor is just right. Being able to run the laptop display and the Asus as the extended desktop makes work so much easier, especially when you’re accustomed to having both displays. The case folds up to become the stand. Not the most physically robust stand in the world, but adequate. And more importantly, it’s light and compact.Just be sure to get a USB-C 3.2 cable. These will typically say “video” or “4K UHD” in the description. Not all USB-C cables will work. If you get a “no signal detected”, it’s probably not a defective display, just a USB cable that doesn’t support video. My laptop, a Dell Latitude 5490, has Power Delivery on the USB-C port. As I write this review the laptop and the Asus display are running just fine on battery. As others have noted though, the Asus display can ONLY be powered by the USB-C port, so you have to plug it into a device that supports PD.Not having a separate power supply probably keeps the size, weight, and cost down. For me that’s important. The brightness is just fine and the screen resolution is excellent. I’m not a gamer so no opinion on how it might work for that purpose.Overall, I recommend this Asus display if you are looking for a compact second monitor to put into the computer bag to help with productivity while on the road.

    Decent Monitor, But Lacks Brightness

Review:I recently tried out the ASUS ZenScreen 15.6” 1080P Portable USB Monitor (MB166C) and while it has some good points, I found it lacking in a few key areas. Here’s my take:Pros:Portability: The monitor is lightweight and easy to carry around, making it a potential choice for those on the move.Eye Care & Anti-Glare: The Eye Care feature is a thoughtful addition, and the anti-glare surface helps in reducing reflections.Warranty: The 3-year warranty is a nice touch, giving some peace of mind for potential durability issues.Cons:Brightness: The most significant drawback for me was the brightness. Even when powered correctly, it felt too dim, especially when compared to other monitors like the UPERFECT QLED Portable Monitor.Powering: While it’s USB-powered, ensuring the right power input to get the best brightness can be a bit tricky. In summary, the ASUS ZenScreen 15.6” 1080P Portable USB Monitor (MB166C) might work for some, especially if you’re in a controlled lighting environment. However, if you’re looking for a bright display that shines in various settings, you might want to consider other options. I ended up returning mine due to the brightness issue.

One of the better plug and play 15inch portable monitor

A 1920 x 1080 resolution with only a single cable (30W) is great, without the need for external power, you can also adjust the brightness which is a plus point. the cover comes as a portable stand for the monitor is a major factor why I got this product, pricing is awesome too.

Great monitor and easy to set up

I got the MB166C after spending far too long looking at the differences in the various models that all look the same. From what I could tell there is negligible difference between the models. This one is brilliant though, use it with my Dell work laptop to remote work on the move a lot easier. Very simple to use, just plug in the USB-C and it’s ready to go, nothing to install or set up. The case that doubles as a stand isn’t the sturdiest so potentially worth investing in the stand but it’s good enough for me and if you’re set up on a sturdy table you should have no problems as it comes.Picture quality is good. Brightness is good too, have used it working out in the sun on bright days and can still read the screen easily too.

    Excellent Portable Monitor

Real great little portable monitor, great picture even for text, graphics are excellent, watch hockey games no issue. The case is great. Bought the lisen stand, a must have and bought a different cable as the one that comes with the monitor is a bit stiff.

Good product – does what it says it does

I ended up not needing this as I fixed my other screen. However, this was researched a lot and it looks like a great option.

    Practico

Es un monitor muy práctico y portátil, esta bien hecho y su funda protectora ayuda tanto para transportala y funciona de base al mismo tiempo. Muy recomendado.

Does what you need it to

Was good for a second screen when working. Would probably get a different one for gaming though. I don’t like the foldable velcro stand, It was flimsy, not very sturdy and the screen can slip off easily if you nudge it… Would be good with a steady stand!

Do not buy – breaks easily & poor customer support

TLDR Summary: ASUS doesn’t support these Amazon-sold devices even if you have a receipt.I purchased this gift for my mom for the holidays. We received it, she opened it, and minutes later put it back in the ASUS provided case. She didn’t touch it for a day and it sat on their kitchen table, nothing covering it other than the case. She went to remove it and the screen looked like it had been punctured and cracked with black bubbling. She immediately put it back in the case and let me know.We tried to go through Amazon’s returns process but it told us to reach out to ASUS for the warranty. We called to talk it through with a representative and explained exactly what I said above & that we had ordered it from Amazon. They said that they’d be able to diagnose and fix it since it had just been received and it didn’t sound like something we did. We happily took it to FedEx and shipped it back.I got an email a few days later saying that “customer induced damage” was out of warranty. When I called to get clarification, they asked if it worked prior to being shipped and that I could just file a claim that FedEx had broken it. I told them that that wasn’t what happened and if they had record of the call. They said the only note was “black bubbles” and that the diagnostics looked like we cracked it. The manager asked me why I sent it back to them and when I told him that I bought it “via the ASUS storefront on Amazon” he said he doesn’t know who shipped it or sold it and that we should’ve reached out to them first because that’s not ASUS. I asked then why I was told to send it back and he said they couldn’t diagnose over the phone but that I could pay via credit card the $200 for them to repair the screen or I could wait for the item to be shipped back and try sending it back to Amazon or *whoever sold it to us.*The fact it sat on a kitchen table within 48 hours of being opened is frustrating. But being dragged around and misled is another. We would’ve never sent it to ASUS first if they had just been up front. What a waste.
