    It’s not cheap…

…but it’s not as expensive as some brands and all three dogs love it! They will even eat it dry. it arrived quickly and was well-packed. The grain free aspect is really helpful for our Weimaraner who has a sensitive digestive system. We would recommend it.

    Grain free

We have been using Wag dog food by Amazon. When the Bison one became unavailable, we switched to this Taste of the Wild. My dogs, miniature Aussies, have allergies to most grains, especially corn. So it was important that the dog food be grain free. The dogs start chewing on their front paws when corn is in the food. The second bag we bought it happened, the paw chewing. I am sure this is a good product, but there is something here that my dogs are allergic too. So I am hunting again for another dog food.

    Need Help!

Bought 7 bags for an emergency supply. My berner has been on the puppy version of this food prior. We opened 1 of the 7 bags and my berner is allergic to the food and is now very itchy. I’m super disappointed that the return window is closed bc all the other bags are sealed. If you see this review, please help me to return at least the unopened bags!

    My pup loves it!

I have been looking for dog food that would have ingredients that would not weigh on my conscience since I’m vegetarian and an advocate against animal cruelty, which is the case for food containing legged animals. I had tried some vegan brands and it was a struggle to get her to eat. I always had to add toppers. Well, no more! I’ve been feeding her this food without the need to add anything to it, and so far so good! And her tummy is totally fine, too!

    Happily surprised.

My big black elderly dog Maverick had a pretty bad case of all over skin rash with scabs and flakes and inflamed areas. He even smelled bad despite weekly baths. My daughter suggested Taste Of The Wild dogwood. He was eating Science Diet Healthy Weight since he had shown pancreatitis symtoms. After one big bag our boy is sporting almost completely cleared skin and his digestive tract is fine. I would recommend this dogfood.

Actually read the FDA report vs drawing conclusions from a headline

I avoid writing & reading reviews bc so many are misleading or useless. Much better ways to spend your time but really couldnt help myself here.0ne review says: The full study is easy to read and gives a clear conclusion: Taste of the Wild and any food with a similar formula is a danger to dogs. The irony is the report makes no such conclusion. It’s a warning “ The FDA has not yet determined the nature of the possible connection between these foods and canine DCM”The report says “Potential” and “possible” links throughout.“ the disease may have a nutritional component without suggesting a nutritional solution”Between 2014 thru 2019 560 dogs were diagnosed with canine dilated cardiomyopathy, 119 died. It was reported that they ate one ofAcana (67), Zignature (64), Taste of the Wild (53), 4Health (32), Earthborn Holistic (32), Blue Buffalo (31), Nature’s Domain (29), Fromm (24), Merrick (16), California Natural (15), Natural Balance (15), Orijen (12), Nature’s Variety (11), NutriSource (10), Nutro (10), and Rachael Ray Nutrish (10) Of various types… kibble, canned, raw, etcThere are 77 million pet dogs in the United States according to the American Vetinary Medical AssociationThe FDA policy requires them to issue a warning in this situation on any possible connection. This also pushed by the vetinary association groups calling in their own conclusions. Unrelated, my vet has “recommended” a prescription dog food at 3x the cost of taste of the wild available on their website . Really hard not to wonder about conflict of interest.Anyway, those are the facts. No conclusions have been made or else it would result in a recall. And the actual numbers I’m comfortable with purchasing this brand.

The food that works for all my dogs:)

The media could not be loaded.

I make homemade food for my dogs as often as possible… but I get this kibble, and specifically the lamb/purple bag because when I can’t keep up with providing the dogs real meat scrap and veggie stew, this food seems to work well for every dog I’ve ever cared for(I also take care of other people’s dogs full time)… I have also tried other flavors of this brand, but my dogs get diarrhea when I try anything else but this…

we are very very happy with this new dog food Call of the Wild

This is Antoinette Jackson. I am writing to let you know of the new change in our dogs FOOD. WE had been on Canada Day through ALL our Goldens, and I was a breeder at one time and always swore by Canidae our dogs got nothing else no other dog food and all that time. It has been well over 15 years Well there’s been a change and it’s a distinct change. We noticed that our seven year old Golden male had begun eating bowls of Canidae dog food more than triple the AMOUNT. We carefully watched this for four solid months. It seemed like he was eating cardboard or sawdust, there seemed to be nothing in the food nutritionally because he never seemed to get full and the more we put in the more he ate. THIS has never been true for our dog and we began thinking something is very strange with the Canada. They’ve been changing the size, the bags, they’ve been changing a lot of things and whatever they have done is not beneficial – not at all. Meanwhile, a beautiful, black and white cat has since made our home his and we wondered what kind of food we should start giving him, After much discussion and talking with reputable feed and animal stores, WE went with CALL OF THE WILD SALMON for the CAT. The cat seemed to thrive on it. His coat became beautiful and shiny and he was gaining weight. Plus he likes the food. Now back to our Golden, we decided that we would put Mauna Kea also on CALL OF THE WILD the Buffalo and VENISON. WE were able to get a 38 pound bag and for as much as Mauna Kea was eating with Canidae and going through food like it was a water. WE found that we aren’t doing any worse for the cost with call of the wild even though it is more expensive. This is the first week so we’re weaning him over seven days and we have noticed a big difference in how much food he is eating because now he’s getting real nutritional value. I put in 1 cup of the Call of The Wild 1 cup of the Canadae. He no longer eats like he’s starving to death, and there’s still food left in his bowl, which was never the case with Canadae the past 4 months.During this time we also took MaunaKea to his vet for a thorough check up. Which was several hundred dollars. He of course, came out with a clean bill of health, no worms, no anything just a HEALTHY golden retriever.I don’t know how to get through to Canada on an email, but I certainly do hope that you will take note of this and pass it on to the people who should be aware of it.Canidae has left us with a great big disappointment in our lives because we really relied on it. AS a matter of fact when we moved back to Hawaii on the BIG ISLAND where we owned a home they had never heard of it. WE HAD TO ALWAYS SPECIAL ORDER it. BY the time we left years later everybody was coming in and buying it, and they always had it on stock they said it was one of their biggest sellers.Mahalo Antoinette Jackson

One of the few dry dog foods, my dog actually seems to like

It doesn’t have that really disgusting horrible smell that some dry dog foods have. Which makes me believe that they are actually using some decent products. Most dry dog foods. My boxer won’t even look at and we’ll go days before touching it unless we add something to it. She seems to enjoy this brand and flavor more than any other dry dog food she’s eaten so far.

    I highly recommend this

We rescued our dog in 2012. Vet thought he must be about 4 years old. That makes him nearly 16 but he looks and acts like a young dog. No one including groomers or vets can believe his age and his coat is shiny and beautiful. This lamb dog food is the only food he’s ever had and I firmly believe that it’s the reason that he’s so healthy and energetic. I joke that I should have been eating it too and I might be healthier than I am. It’s a little more expensive but I’ve saved a lot with him being so healthy. Besides I’d pay anything for him. He’s my best friend.

    My dogs love this brand!

I have all 3 of my dogs on this brand and they all love it. Two are pit bulls (sweetest boys ever) and this foods gives them energy and a good amount of protein. They are all muscle. My other is a English springer and he loves this as well. I mix it with a little bit of chicken on top and it’s clean plates all the time.

    Keep your dogs food consistent

If you go with a cheaper brand, stay with a cheaper brand. Suddenly switching dog food can make your dog sick. (Throwing up, runny poop, etc) Much like humans switching between diets. Always consult with your vet the best meal option for your canine. My dog has been on this brand since he was a puppy and I’ve experienced no issues with him in his brand. I was informed he needed to be on a grain free diet. This brand works great for him.

    Product met expectations

I liked that the order was accurate and shipped on time.Very dissatisfied with FedEx. They texted me that they left my product on my porch. The picture was not of my porch. They did not even deliver it to my address, which my address is clearly marked. FedEx never called me back.My neighbor finally called me later that night and said FedEx delivered my product to her address.

    Trying for digestive issues

My Samoyed has had digestive issues for awhile now. He use to self feed until something went wrong. My vet agreed that he wouldn’t want to put his dog through the tests to see if the problem was from his upper or lower digestive systems. I asked him how would it be handled anyway and he said diet. So, the search continues. First no chicken and it’s hard to find anything with no chicken meal. He still needs to eat every 8 hours or he dry heaves and can fall from it. He hasn’t free fed in years, so now I’m trying this food with no chicken at all or grains and see how it goes. He likes the taste, but as always, I have to add a little brown rice and sugar free apple sauce to get him to eat.

    My New Favorite Dog food

My dog was put onto a diet, and this food was recommended. My dog had no issues switching to this, as he must like the taste/texture/size of the kibble bits. The outside of the bag has minimal smell of food, but just in case my dog gets curious, I do I keep it inside an airtight tub.

    Does loves it

Dog seems to love this food, but she is a very small breed and I think it may be too high protein for her. She is gaining fat/weight faster than ever, with exercise. May switch to something that is breed specific, but as far as this food goes, she is always excited for it.

After switching my white Havanese to this dog food he no longer has red tearing in his eyes

My dog loves this food and I only feed him 1/8 cup morning and night. He no longer has runny red eyes and red saliva from under his tongue. I did not know this would happen, I just wanted a grain free diet. His coat is beautiful and he is full of energy. I am so glad that his eyes are not running anymore. I shared this information with another person that had a white havanese dog. She switched to this food and when I saw her again she told me she was very happy because she no longer has to clean up the tear stains. Very good product.

    Packaging was HORRIBLE

The product itself is perfect. Would definitely buy this from the store again (not shipped!). The shipping was horrendous. The ingredients listed on this dog food seem very promising. I did a lot of research on foods for my pup, and I felt extremely comfortable with feeding my baby this. I saw no flags in the ingredients and seen that it’s rated pretty high for a healthy choice of kibble. I switched over to taste of the wild from blue buffalo to give her some variety. Taste wise she seems to like it just as much as the old kibble so I know it doesn’t taste bad for her. Overall, if I was to buy this at a store I’d give it a 5/5. BUT. I ordered it through amazon where it had to be shipped. I wish I wasn’t angry enough to take a picture of the disaster of the shipment. the food came in the flimsiest box I have ever seen. Mind you, I ordered the largest bag (I think it was either 28 or 38lbs I forgot the exact weight but it was heavy). this box was humongous compared to the bag and had no other stuffing in the bag to prevent the weight from moving around and breaking the box. On top of the lack of quality of the cardboard, it literally looked liked it was wrapped up by a 2 year old with dollar store tape. there was like 4 layers of crumpled up tape (looked like someone continuously kept trying to cover up their taping mistakes) just for it to NOT EVEN STICK! the box arrived at my door step COMPLETELY opened. scratches all over the bag, thankfully (and extremely surprised) it didn’t bust a hole in it! both sides of the box were busted open from the weak box and tape. not sure if it was the person who delivered it or the person who packaged it at fault for this but I mean at least the food arrived unopened. Would definitely buy this high quality food again but definitely not shipped from amazon or at all.

    Dogs loved it immediately

Even my picky eater dove into this. The quality is excellent, just wishing that dog food hasn”t become more expensive than what I put on my table. I have to mix it with some lesser costly brands, because with three giant breed dogs, I couldn’t hope to use this exclusively. There are a variety of protein sources and no garbage, corn, wheat, soy…..great product but a bit pricey

The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of …

The first ingredient in this dog food is buffalo. Although it is a quality item, raw buffalo contains about 80% water. After cooking, most of that moisture is lost, reducing the meat content to just a fraction of its original weight. After processing, this item would probably account for a smaller part of the total content of the finished product. The second ingredient is lamb meal. Lamb meal is considered a meat concentrate and contains nearly 300% more protein than fresh lamb. The third ingredient is sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are a gluten-free source of complex carbohydrates in a dog food. They are naturally rich in dietary fiber and beta carotene. The fourth ingredient is egg product, an unspecified (wet or dry?) form of shell-free eggs. Quality can vary significantly. Lower grade egg product can even come from commercial hatcheries — from eggs that have failed to hatch. In any case, eggs are easy to digest and have an exceptionally high biological value. The fifth ingredient is pea protein, what remains of a pea after removing the starchy part of the vegetable.Even though it contains over 80% protein, this ingredient would be expected to have a lower biological value than meat. And less costly plant-based products like this can notably boost the total protein reported on the label — a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The sixth ingredient includes peas. Peas are a quality source of carbohydrates. And like all legumes, they’re rich in natural fiber. However, peas contain about 25% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the meat content of this dog food. The seventh ingredient is potato. Potatoes can be considered a gluten-free source of digestible carbohydrates. Yet with the exception of perhaps their caloric content, potatoes are of only modest nutritional value to a dog.The eighth ingredient is canola oil. Unfortunately, canola can be a controversial item. That’s because it can sometimes (but not always) be derived from genetically modified rapeseed.Yet others cite the fact canola oil can be a significant source of essential omega-3 fatty acids. In any case, plant-based oils like canola are less biologically available to a dog than fish oil as a source of quality omega-3 fats. The ninth ingredient is tomato pomace. Tomato pomace is a controversial ingredient, a by-product remaining after processing tomatoes into juice, soup and ketchup. Many praise tomato pomace for its high fiber and nutrient content, while others scorn it as an inexpensive pet food filler.Just the same, there’s probably not enough tomato pomace here to make much of a difference. From here, the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of this product. With four notable exceptions…First, flaxseed is one of the best plant sources of healthy omega-3 fatty acids. Provided they’ve first been ground into a meal, flax seeds are also rich in soluble fiber. However, flaxseed contains about 19% protein, a factor that must be considered when judging the actual meat content of this dog food.Next, salmon oil is naturally rich in the prized EPA and DHA type of omega-3 fatty acids. These two high quality fats boast the highest bio-availability to dogs and humans.Depending on its level of freshness and purity, salmon oil should be considered a commendable addition. In addition, chicory root is rich in inulin, a starch-like compound made up of repeating units of carbohydrates and found in certain roots and tubers. Not only is inulin a natural source of soluble dietary fiber, it’s also a prebiotic used to promote the growth of healthy bacteria in a dog’s digestive tract. And lastly, this food contains chelated minerals, minerals that have been chemically attached to protein. This makes them easier to absorb. Chelated minerals are usually found in better dog foods.

Great chow for a finnicky dog!

Our veternarian said our dog should change his chow from what we were feeding him and recommend a complete change of food. We started by slowly mixing his old chow with the new and found he liked it more than what we had before and more importanly, he became more continent and he greatly reduced his paw licking.
