The Best Sunscreen for My Mature, Acne Prone Skin
As a woman past 40 with acne and sensitive skin, I’m constantly searching for sunscreen that doesn’t make me break out or irritate. A couple of years ago, while in the tropics during winter, everyone thought I had a bad sunburn, but no, it was hives all over my chest, neck, and face. I looked like a swollen lobster, which is not a good look when you are actually eating lobster.I’ve tried every brand I can find in all different price ranges. Inevitably, I toss the ones that make me break out in hives or are super irritating, and most of the remaining clog my pores or otherwise encourage facial acne, so they end up in a bag for the rest of my family to use. The last time I was at a beach, I just hauled out my failed pricey facial sunscreens, slathered them all over my legs, and wore a gigantic hat.Then my blue-eyed red-headed niece (extremely sensitive to the sun) told me about Elta MD UV Clear Face Sunscreen. Her dermatologist had recommended it because of her acne issues. I was a bit skeptical because I’d been prescribed all kinds of treatments by my dermatologist, and none of them worked very well, but I’ve been using the Elta MD all this summer and couldn’t be more pleased with the results. I still wear a hat because we all know no sunscreen protects 100%, but most importantly, my skin has actually gotten clearer.It’s expensive but worth it if, like me, every other sunscreen makes you break out in rash or pimples. As you can see in the pictures, a small amount goes a long way and is completely sheer with no residue. One pump from the applicator is exactly enough for the face and neck. Because of the price, I use it only on my face, so my small bottle of Elta MD has lasted for about two months.It’s not super moisturizing, but if I apply my moisturizer first and give it time to settle, I can benefit from both. Another great advantage of this lotion is that it can be reapplied without residue building up. I’ve used products that get gross after a couple of layers, but this really is very sheer and seems to absorb completely into the skin.There is no added fragrance, so you don’t have to worry about weird odors, and Elta MD also makes a tinted sunscreen that I sometimes wear over the UV clear so I can even out my skin tone AND discourage acne. All around, the best sunscreen I’ve ever used.

All I can say is FINALLY!!!
Despite knowing its importance, I have avoided wearing facial sunscreen my entire adulthood because I haven’t been able to find one that doesn’t make me break out, one that doesn’t make my skin oily, one that doesn’t make my skin dry, one that doesn’t pill under my makeup, etc etc etc. This sunscreen is AMAZING. Finally I have found a product that I am excited to use as a part of my daily routine. This sunscreen is silky smooth, light, moisturizing… doesn’t make my sensitive skin break out, doesn’t have a strong odor… it is simply fantastic and worth every penny.

Smooth application, doesn’t feel greasy or tacky on hands, recommended at dermatologist’s office
This is a great sunscreen. I buy the clear version — not the tinted.Dermatologists convinced me to look for zinc oxide in my sunscreen rather than the chemical sunscreen ingredients. Zinc oxide, however, can turn your face white. I love that even my son is willing to use this because it doesn’t turn his skin white. It also doesn’t feel disgusting on your hands after you apply it. It feels creamier than daily moisturizers with SPF, so I feel like I get more substantial coverage. I would prefer a slightly higher SPF but am glad it comes in 46. I feel like it gives my son and husband (who hate sunscreen) the best protection possible since this is one they’re willing to use.It has a great pump that doesn’t get messy or clog. I like the size of the can and the lid and seems less likely to leak or make a mess in a purse than the face sunscreens that are meant to be squeezed. This brand was recommended at the dermatologist’s office. (The recommendation for when my kids were young was Blue Lizard because the bottle turns blue if out in the sun long.) The only downside is how expensive this stuff is.I avoid buying personal care products on Amazon in case of getting a counterfeit but am posting a review for those who can’t get these in a store. It is a great product.

Very good SPF
After having a less than desirable experience with their UV Physical, I swore off the brand.. until I still could not for the life of me find a sunscreen that didn’t make me break out, itch, turn red, or make me greasy. So lots of frustration cycling through SPF after SPF, and an arm and a leg later, I came back to this. Honestly, I was pretty nervous to even put this on my face after the UV Physical, but after several uses I’m pleasantly surprised. No breakouts on my acne prone skin, no excessive oil production, and no redness. I do still get a little itch at the corners of my nose, but nothing compared to other SPFs. It does also pill slightly at my hairline, but it’s very fixable. Overall, I’m happy with it and I would repurchase this, so long as it keeps going well. Although, I do think the $41 price tag for 1.7 oz is a bit steep.

Best Sunscreen
I got this for my husband and I to use on a trip to Australia. It was extremely effective and it did not burn our eyes which has happened with other sunscreens when we perspire. It was smooth and easy to get it on evenly. I felt like I was wearing a moisturizer + really good sunscreen. I have some rosacea and it did not cause any kind of reaction.

Excellent Product
Let me tell you, I’ve never had a sunscreen that I actually liked. They were either too greasy or left a heavy cast on my face. This product is very light and leaves no cast on your skin. Its perfect for darker skin tones. I would definitely recommend this product.

Love Hate Sometimes
This is the only sunscreen I’ve been able to find that doesn’t break me out and it does calm down redness from acne that I have. I love and also don’t love it at the same time. Sometimes it can feel a bit heavy on my skin and like it never fully dries down. While other times it dries down great and feels great to apply. Think it depends on how dry my skin is feeling that day. When it’s drier this applies nicely. When it is more hydrated this tends to feel heavy, and I use less product because of that.I’ve tried plenty of Korean sunscreens and a lot of those have ingredients that clog my pores. Some that I’ve tried are BOJ, this is too heavy, Skin 1004 blue cap one, this is amazing texture and finish-wise but causes me to break out, and roundlab, causes burning when my skin is super dry. I’ve also tried drmtlgy their zinc sunscreen and that one was horrible with a heavy white cast and heavy feeling to the skin.So, I do use this sunscreen everyday and I have repurchased. Though I wish it would dry down and not leave my face so shiny sometimes. I do use a moisturizer underneath and a toner. I’ve tried without a moisturizer before and this sunscreen is not hydrating enough for someone with dry/combo sensitive skin. Best solution I’ve found is to either wait 15mins or more after applying moisturizer and then apply the sunscreen. Or, which isn’t ideal, applying a bit less product and kind of doing it in layers.Still looking for a sunscreen I love but this will do in the meantime. If they ever fix it where it dries down with a more matte finish and sinks into the skin better this would be 5 stars.

Great Refreshing Feel!
I use this mostly because I was told wearing some SPF will help reduce the chance of wrinkles down the road. But I have noticed that my face isn’t as red as it use to be — I have sensitive skin so being out in the sun for a bit will affect me.This doesn’t have an overly sunscreen smell and it feels great, unlike other SPFs below 100 that make skin super oily.I highly recommend this product for anyone that is starting to take more care of their skin, and for anyone that has sensitive skin but not in need of 100+ SPFs.

Best Sunscreen on the Market
My dermatologist recommended this sunscreen, and after having tried several of the leading brands, I’ve concluded this is the best one out there (at least it is for me). With both Oxtinoxate (chemical barrier) and Zinc Oxide (physical barrier) is a broad-spectrum physical and chemical barrier sunscreen to have you covered across the board.While I had found other similar sunscreens, they unfortunately left pretty bad synthetic white residue on my face after application. While this sunscreen does leave a slight white shade, it’s significantly less than any of the others that I’ve tried. I’m still open to finding a better product in the future, but until that time, this will be my go-to sunscreen for daily usage.

Perfect for sensitive skin / eyes
I have tried many sunblocks (MANY!!!). From various high-end brands to drugstore variety. They pretty much always make my eyes tear up, and most of the times, the sunblock flakes. This is the ONLY sunblock that has worked for my over-sensitive face. I finally have a sunblock I can wear on a daily basis.

I love the sunscreen because it provides no white cast. I would just be careful with the product that you use underneath of the sunscreen. I find that depending on the product that is used underneath this product, the sunscreen will pill (I.e. clumps will form)

My skin is combination/acne prone and sensitive so usually when I try a sunscreen it normally breaks me out and feels too greasy or heavy. It feels moisturizing but it isn’t heavy or greasy and doesn’t break me out. I think it’s worth the price!

Small but totally worth it.
I’m in my 40s and have a combination/sensitive skin. So I’m always careful when trying out new skin care products especially for sunscreen. For some reason, many sunscreen products don’t work for me. They usually clog my pores within a few days of applying or too greasy after a few hours.I was done trying out different products and haven’t been using sunscreen for a while now but I recently started noticing sun damaged spots on my forehead, around the eyes, and neck area.So, I decided to invest a little more and try something better and found this one. And I’m glad I gave it a try. It’s really light and goes on your skin so well. It’s definitely not oily but moisturizing without being heavy. I even forgot I was wearing it all day because it didn’t irritate me one bit.I would definitely recommend this to someone who has sensitive or mature combination skin.

The best sunscreen!
I have used this sunscreen for many years and it is easily one of the best compared to others I have tried. It gives significant UV protection without the white cast. As a dermatology nurse it’s really important that I provide products to my patients that not only feel good, but are actually good for their skin. It doesn’t cause breakouts, sits well under make up without pilling, and not greasy. Definitely recommend for everyday use!

Physical Weight is much lighter than previous same purchases
This is my 3rd time to purchase Elta 46 facial sunscreen. For some reason though, I was surprised that for this last order, the PHYSICAL WEIGHT of the product seemed very, very light, compared to the others I’ve purchased. My first instinct was – I was given an empty bottle. My second instinct was it was a FAKE Elta product. Comparing it with the previous Elta 46 facial sunscreen I had which was almost depleted , the new product I got was even lighter in physical weight than the one that was almost depleted.I am almost tempted to return it.Can someone tell me if anyone has the same experience? Has Elta changed their packaging and formulation? How to explain the lighter weight?

You know, I might just be one of the last people to hop on the EltaMD Sunscreen bandwagon. I’ve heard everyone, from online beauty gurus to friends in real life, rave about this sunscreen. My new everyday sunscreen
I have combination skin and have tried numerous sunscreens. At one point I used the Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector, and while I loved how that one made my skin feel, I had the worst white cast. I have been on the hunt for a sunscreen similar to that one but without a white cast. I tried the innisfree daily UV defense, supergoop, cocokind, la roche posay & all of them were fine but didn’t check every box I wanted in a sunscreen. When I tell you this one checks EVERY SINGLE BOX & more. It’s lightweight, perfect for combination skin, doesn’t give me a white cast, lasts all day and goes on smoothly. I also love how it wears underneath my makeup. It’s on the more expensive side but hey, invest in your skin!

Thin but effective

Almost my favorite sunscreen
I have very sensitive skin and have a hard time finding a good sunscreen that looks good and feels good on my face. This one causes absolutely no irritation, and leaves a beautiful glow on my face! But it does peel a bit after a while which was such a bummer, because I love to add layers of moisture to my skin, now I can only add one light moisturizer before applying sunscreen and even then it peels a little.

I like EltaMD UV Clear Face Sunscreen, but unfortunately, I noticed acne breakouts when using it, even without moisturizing beforehand. Given this, a 4-star rating seems fair from my perspective. It might work well for others, but be cautious if you have acne-prone skin.

Another great sunscreen from EltaMD
I am currently using this as a daily sunscreen for the winter months. This does have a slight white cast if you use too much product but can be rubbed in. It’s lightweight and easy to apply. The canister packaging might feel a bit clunky to bring around for reapplication but still doable.

Great for my sensitive skin
I used to loyally use Vanicream because my face hates most sunscreens, but that one left a terrible white cast and was greasy. This Elta Clear one is also sensitive on my skin but on top of that, it is also so easy to put on (silky smooth), does not leave a white cast, and it is not greasy at all. Love it!

Doesn’t cause me to breakout
I’ve tried many different types of facial sunscreen. This is the only one that hasn’t broken me out. It’s lightweight and doesn’t leave a strong sunscreen smell. My makeup goes on smoothly over it and it seems to last awhile.

The only sunscreen I use
This is by far the best sunscreen I’ve found mostly due to its lotion consistency and pleasant scent. It rubs in easily, absorbs quickly, and layers well under makeup.
