Did the job in my new tank
I bought this to cycle a new 255 litre reef tank. The instructions were very clear and there are a couple of very useful videos on line. I followed the instructions to the letter in terms of dosing and testing and the cycle happened just as should, going through the various stages. Personally I much prefer to use something like this rather than use a live fish which would likely be stressed by the poor water quality during the cycle. One concern I did have was that if you followed the instructions fully it states that the tank would be ready for fish after 9 days. This certainly wasn’t the case and it wasn’t until day 15 the the nitrate levels had fallen to zero making the tank fully cycled. I would suggest not following the 9 day suggestion but relying on the results from ammonia, nitrite and nitrate tests. However I was still happy with a 15 day cycle so would use this again if I ever start a new tank.

This stuff is AMAZING
This stuff is absolutely amazing. I use it when I set up a new tank, or even sometimes after a water change just to beef up the beneficial bacteria. You can add fish immediately, no more waiting weeks for a tank to cycle. If you worried about over stocking, and about to add another fish, just add another bottle. My tank has never looked so clean and it totally skipped the “ugly stage” that most tanks go through. I always keep an extra bottle on hand just for incase moments. Once I needed to set up a hospital tank for a sick fish, and I didnt have time to wait for the tank to cycle, i just added this and then was good to go. Everyone who has a tank should keep this on hand at all times. It’s amazing.

I was VERY skeptical about this product but let me tell you ITS AMAZING!! I’m not going to set here and get into the technical crap (not that I understand it all anyway) but all I can say is my skimmer now skims TONS of crap out of the tank. it didn’t do this before. matter of fact it would only wet skim. All I can say is if you’re in doubt get a small bottle and try it out first. It really is great!!

It is just like adding water into my aquarium. There is not a single sign of improvement after 2 weeks.

No expiry date!
Really not sure about the quality, because I cannot find any expiry date on the container. Any organic product will have expiry date. So, mine could be expired already. Pouring such product to my tank does not make me feel comfortable. On the other hand BAC+ has clearly marked the manufacture and expiry dates.

I have an extremely large aquarium of 300 gallons and this is probably one of the most helpful products I have ever had to disintegrate the byproducts left by my huge fish. Yes, I plan on buying this again but I just hope they have it in a larger size.

Works against “red slime” (cyanobacteria) is reef tanks
I almost passed over this product because the name made me think it was for fish that were wasting away. Not so! It is for clearing up cyanobacteria (“red slime”) from salt water reef tanks. The products that claim to clean the “red stains” stop working after a few months. Bacterial resistance is my guess. So I’ve been looking at other types of products. This product is not the only “our bacteria will out-eat the red slime” product I’ve tried, so I was a bit skeptical. But after using it for a couple months (and continuing my weekly scrubbing of the red slime), I find I no longer have to scrub! The corals and other creatures in my tank don’t react to it at all, unlike the “red stain removers”. Well, that’s not completely true. The corals exhibit feeding behavior after I treat the tank. This product doesn’t cause my skimmer to over-skim, either. It is not reducing the hairy algae, which would have been nice. But, hey. I’m just happy to be rid of the red slime. The bottle is practically empty now. I expect I’ll have to buy another bottle in the future and will gladly do so.

Works for me!!!
Re new and waste away were used to treat my 240 gallon saltwater tank. If you scan the qc bar on the back of bottle it will take you to Dr. Tim’s website. The website gives a recommended schedule for treatment. The bottle of re new was used first, the waste away treatment was started next. When waste away was started I also started lights out for the days. I still have another dose of waste away to do tomorrow. Today my lights came on and all I can say is wow, what a difference. I’ve struggled with the cyano red algae for a way to long. I tried several things and was very frustrated. So far I’m very pleased with the results so far. This tank has been up for 8 years. There is a blue tang that was from an old tank that is ~15 years old. I was ready to throw in the towel. The tank looks so much better. Thanks!

Seems to have done what it said it does.
Cycled a 120g tank with Caribsea Hawaiian Sand, media balls (the ceramic ones) and dry man-made liverock.Used the ammonia by the same brand to get up to about 4ppm. By day 2 I had a massive nitrite spike and Ammonia was just trace. Added more ammonia day 3 to get to 2ppm. Added microbacter7 on day 3 as well. Nitrite spike did last about 5 days reading off the charts before it went to 0.Refugium was up and running when the Nitrites became readable (API test). I’m about 10 days in and am running at 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, and about 10-20 nitrate.” With Chaeto growing nicely.I normally cycle tanks with gulf live rock and it takes about 4-5 days to get a stable tank setup. I’ve never really had the ups and downs of new tank syndrome. Will be interesting to see if I get the hair/bacteria/cyano blooms over the next few months.

Order from a reputable fish store
My bottle looked like it’d been sitting on the shelf for years. The label was faded and looked old, pretty sure all the good bacteria was dead and did more harm than good. This stuff is good for 6mo the to a year depending on how it is stored. Does Amazon track that? I doubt it.

Destroys algae!!!
Solved my 1.5 year battle with algae. 120 gallon system with bio-pellet reactor. After manually removing all reachable algae, Dosed instructed amount every other day for about 3 weeks, week 4, all algae gone. Dosed 1/2 directly into bio-pellet reactor intake and other 1/2 of volume into sump love rock are with skimmer off for 3-8 hours depending on my schedule at home. Word of advice- if you need more than 16oz. Bottle for entire duration of treatment, it was far cheaper ordering multiple 16oz bottles vs. the 32/64oz bottle. Larger volume jugs were severely marked up.Be aware, I stopped dosing cold turkey when algae issue was gone, had another outbreak 2 weeks later. May need to dose once a week to keep bacteria levels up. Apex ORP reflected dosing and skimme on/off so at least there is some sort of measurable effect. Did not effect PH.

Have patience, it will work.
It worked really well for me! I’d like to preface with this; this product is not like others, where you put in a few drops and magically everything is better… I had hair algae issues for about 3 months and no matter how many water changes I made and removed the algae from my tank the issue wouldn’t cease. I had to use tap water for a variety of reasons, which was the root of my issue, but I knew that if that couldn’t change I needed a product that would reduce waste in my tank. After a period of about a month with regular weekly water changes, removing the algae from the tank, and adding a dose of Waste-Away I saw very significant results. My tank is back to normal and all the fish and coral are living happy/healthy lives!

Works awesome!
This saved my reef tank from a horrible battle with clear cyno slime. I battled the slime daily for 6 months and tried this as a last resort. It worked miracles to get my parameters in my tank back in line. Now i dose it once a week. No slime or other issues. I use 30ml in my 90 gal plus 30 gal sump. The biggest key is to not over dose. Start small and increase the dose gradually. At my slime issue peak, i was dosing 50ml every 3 days.

Snake oil
I bought and followed the exact steps of Dr tims. I dosed my tank with their ammonia and brought it to 2ppm. After three days I still have 2ppm ammonia and 0ppm nitrite. The tank is definitely not cycling with the “bacteria” lole they claim.

This product cycled my problematic aquarium faster than if I had let the tank run its course with the live rock and the other brands of bacteria on the market. Prior to adding this product, the ammonia levels in the tank was staying around 1 ppm. Adding this finished the job in 1 day.

The best, pure and simple. I add some at every water change, a cap or two once your tank has cycled is enough. To start a new tank, use more.

Sceptical of this Product – Thinking I was scammed
After researching online and finding Dr. Tim’s site and watched his videos I was convinced that this would be a good way to cycle my tank . Immediately after pouring in “ONE and ONLY” my water was not cloudy at all (contents poured almost clear)! Per Dr. Tim’s video and other video their water was cloudy. Bottle was kept in a cool place prior to use as well as shaken for about 20 seconds before using. I am now sceptical of the product I bought not sure if I got a bad product by accident or was scammed. Not sure what I poured into my tank so playing it safe and remaking RO water to start over.

Not worth it
Bacteria was dead on delivery and did nothing but spiked the ammonia in my tank. Not sure if there was a temper issue where they were stored or when shipped but not worth the harm they cause to a tank

Added this to my 130 gallon and it works wonders. Left a very little amount. Use all if you want to cycle a tank as quickly as possible. Bacteria bloom within the 5th day. The first week tank was cycled.

Didn’t really see much of a difference in my tank.
After using other Dr. Tim’s products with great success (One and Only) I was disappointed in Waste Away. It makes great claims, however I really so no difference after using it for an extended period of time. I wouldn’t buy again and wouldn’t recommend this product

Dr Tims Aquatics Reef One & Only didn’t work at all !
I followed the directions, it stated your tank will be cloudy after shaking the mix well and pouring into your tank for several hours, but don’t be alarmed that’s the bacteria being added. When I poured the liquid it was virtually clear, so assumed no bacteria. I called Dr Tims Aquatics and the support was more surprised. I added Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride as they suggested and nothing happened, no raising of Ammonia or Nitrite, added more and still no raise in either. Amazon replaced the One and Only, again poured the new bottle in my tank after shaking well and again was almost clear. Used 4 drops of Ammonium Chloride per gallon and still NO raise in Ammonium or Nitrite. I wont use the Dr Tims products anymore, will use Fritz or some other products that work. I do not suggest wasting your time on this method to break in your new tank using this product and there support was useless and not caring.

Okay I can’t give it 5 stars yet because I wasn’t expecting a tiny bottle. But maybe it’s just suppose to jump start the new tank but I mean for $30 it seems like a lot for so little. I guess we shall see

I’m guessing because of bad storage at a shipping facility
I bought this product to cycle some dry rock with bottled ammonia plus the whole setup. The bacteria I received was a dud, I didn’t bother trying getting a replacement bottle. I’m guessing because of bad storage at a shipping facility. I ended up having to buy a competitors product to get the cycle moving. This was unfortunate, because DrTim’s has worked for me in the past.

Excellent, As Usual
I was having some issues with nitrate and phosphate in my nano reef. This product has really helped get the numbers down where they belong. I suspect that starting with mostly dry rock put me a little behind in the denitrifying bacteria department, but this could conceivably add a very nice boost to your beneficial bacteria colony regardless of the rock you started with.It is not a replacement for water changes, but really helps me keep things clean between changes.

Overpriced Overhyped
Followed the guide for the fishless cycle perfectly. Product did not perform as advertised, but was still able to get some Nitrate at the end. For the price, just get yourself a big bottle of Seachem Stability and follow directions.

Great product… ordered it again!
So I had set up a Biocube 14 in 2011 and used this product to start the cycling process. Followed the instructions and lost nothing. This time around I’m starting another reef tank and going to use this to cycle. Really great product that is designed with the right bacterial content just for Aquariums.

Used this to quickly cycle my new 180-gal tank (now 6 months old), as well as a 55-gal quarantine tank. Great performance, this mixture does what it’s claimed to do. Got my 180 tank cycled in about 6 days, no more having to wait a few months for the N cycle to complete the “old school / hard way.” Highly recommend! I’ll be using this to cycle every new tank from large to small from now on.

Happy Reefer!
I used Re-fresh in combination with Waste Away to help fight a pretty nasty cyanobacteria problem. It is all natural, and didn’t affect my nitrifying bacteria at all. Actually, it improved my water quality by removing all nitrates and phosphates! While I haven’t completely won the battle yet on the cyano, it is 90% better than what it was and continues to get better every week. Love this stuff!
Steve –
Simply not worth it.
As far as I can tell this stuff is garbage. I’m four days into what will supposedly be a 1 week cycle time and after using this stuff mixed with Dr Tim’s ammonia all I have is a tank with high ammonia and no nitrites. I followed all the directions as closely as possible removed filter media etc. and yet there’s no indication a cycle has begun. At this point when the cycle finally does start I won’t even be able to attribute it to this product since these cycles begin on their own without these additives. Based on my experience so far and the lack of help from their Facebook page (mostly tried to come up with excuses and blame me) I won’t be buying another Dr Tim’s product.

Waste of money
Followed directions and three weeks later tank still not cycled. Doesn’t appear there was any nitrifying bacteria in bottle.

Follow the instructions!
I have used this product several times and always find it helps with algae.PLEASE BE SURE TO READ INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY!! A few other reviews mention killing their entire fish population – this is usually due to overdosing the bacteria, and is the main reason the bottle instructs you to you a 50% dose to begin with. The bacteria in the product use the oxygen in your water to process the nitrates and phosphates. Over-using this product can cause a MASSIVE, TEMPORARY drop in oxygen levels in your water suffocating your fish. Often plants (including your problem algae) and corals can withstand this drop, but fish can not!!

A must have product!
I have 30 g square tank, no skimmer, filter or cleaning crew. I dont’ understand the point of a cleaning crew, since they also make waste? Anyway this product is my cleaning crew. I started to have some red slime on my sand bed. After using this, the next day, it was gone. It does keep the Nitrate and Phosphates down. I like that this product is natural. I have a mandarin fish and need to keep copepods alive. I try to keep everything balanced with good bacteria and whatever lives in my live rocks/ sand. I use Waste away for the last eight month weekly and so far everything works perfectly and my mandarin fish is still alive and eating well.

Helps to cut down on GHA
I used this to get rid of a green hair algae outbreak in my tank. In less than two weeks it was gone and I am down to a weekly dose. I am currently using this weekly instead of biopellets to keep the algae at bay. Carbon dosing, biopellets and this are basically all just using bacteria to soak up extra nutrients in the tank. As a side benefit the extra bacteria are food for your corals.

I use it the day before I do a water change and holy cow I see crazy results. Green hair algae falling off, waste is visible to the eye when gravel vacuuming your sand bed. It cleans my protein skimmer very very well so I don’t have to use harsh chemicals like vinegar.
