    Weed Eater on Wheels

We live in the CA high desert, with a yard that’s usually bare dirt. With the record rain this year, suddenly we had a “lawn”. I had a basic weed eater, but the idea of using that to chop down a half acre of rye grass was daunting. After reading the mixed reviews here, I had my doubts, but crossed my fingers and ordered; and after one weekend I am impressed. Everything worked as advertised. The majority of the yard is sloped and bumpy. Despite this, the trimmer never dislodged from the wheeled base while in use. It tackled thick clumps of perennial rye grass up to 6 inches high with no problem. Using a vacuum cleaner motion worked best, as it sometimes takes a couple passes to get a clean cut. The sparser areas looked good after a single pass.I have never had an extension cord supplied with a yard tool, and here was no exception. All three of my 3-prong cords fit with no issue – a 2-prong cord is not required. It draws 6.5 amps, so a medium duty cord (14ga) is a wise choice for longer reach. It used trimmer line at a comparable rate to my Toro trimmer. B&D suggests using their pre-wound reels, but there are instructions for re-winding it yourself with standard round .065 trimmer line available anywhere. The wheeled base is high impact plastic, and seems durable. I have the wheels set at the higher setting (2.3 inches). No issues with it keeping that setting. The low setting is 1.5″. Noise level is the same as any other electric line trimmer in my experience. The handle is adjustable; I’m 5’8″ and it was comfortable to use … and a lot easier than carrying the trimmer around.Bear in mind, it’s a weed eater on wheels, not a 5hp mower. It’s going to take longer. Read and follow the instructions, take your time, and use common sense. As for me, I say “Well done, Black & Decker.”

You pay for what you get

This really is just a weed eater on wheels. It will probably take more time than if you had a real mower, but it does what it’s meant to. It is nice that you can take the tool off the wheels and weed eat edges like normal.

Works for 1/4 the cost of a gas mower.

I used this to mow my lawn. It was super easy, let me mow, edge, weedwhack. One of my favorite purchases of all time.

Nice versatile easy to use lightweight little lawnmower

I have a tiny yard. I have been mowing it with a weed eater for years. I thought it would be nice to have an even cut, which I have not been doing well. My disappointment is that the height adjustment goes from a little too short to “golfing green” short! I suppose I could follow “Red Green’s” advice and wrap each tire tread with duct tape until it raised it enough for my preference. 😄 I could not use my B&D battery weedeater but despite being the same company etc it doesn’t actually fit without the new and different string guard. Fortunately It is a small yard. I do like how easy it is to remove and replace the weed eater so I can trim as I go instead of that being a separate task and taking more time. The other nice feature is because it separates into two pieces it is easy to wipe out the grass buildup inside. You can’t do it this easy with a regular lawnmower. Being able to carry the whole kit in one hand is also nice 👍 I don’t think it’s the sturdiest piece of equipment as the first one I bought (used like new) was broken, the plastic where it catches under the deck of the “mower” was the part that had snapped. So, I treat this, actually new, one, carefully. It is also easy to store as I can hang up the Weed eater and I put the deck upright against the wall under it. Now where did I put that duct tape…

    Handy!

It’s like vacuuming the yard! (Yes, you have to be a little careful to not pop it out of its base, but it’s just being kind to your equipment to make sure it lasts.)

    Easy to operate and assemble.

Not a wiz at assembling products, but this item went together very well. Not a lot of parts helped. Very impressed with how well it works! The automatic line feed is nice and the easy changing of the line spools are equally important. It buzzed my smaller grass area in a matter of minutes. Love the “lawn mover” over just a weed eater. Area seems fairly even. A regular size lawn mower is used for most of my lawn, but this is perfect for the 25 foot by 12 foot area inside an extra fence for my dogs to use when I don’t want to wait for them to explore the entire backyard. Would purchase again-

Doesn’t really do a good job of cutting grass

It is very light, easy to put together, and maneuverable; but it doesn’t really cut grass well. Go too fast, and it doesn’t cut at all. Pull up slightly, and it comes out of the wheelbase. Push down a bit, and it suddenly cuts the grass but not evenly. Might work better on longer grass instead of grass that gets cut regularly.

    Lightweight

I purchased this item for in between yard cuttings. But it works so great that I am able to use it all the time. The item is very lightweight which makes it easier for a female like me to use it with no problem. I do like the fact that I don’t have to put gas in. It cannot complain.

    Gets the Job Done

This little guy sounds like a shop vac, but it works like a regular mower. You’re not going to get crisp clean lawn lines, but you’ll have cut grass. And that’s all that matters to me. There’s a wireless version but my yard is very small, so I opted for the cheaper, wired option. Only complaint is that it cannot navigate uneven terrain very easily at all, but it’s lightweight so it’s easy to lift out of a hole.

Nice, but the trimmer pops out of the deck too easily.

Title says it all. It gets the job done, but the lip that engages the deck is just a bit too small, and the trimmer pops out way too easily. The other thing is, the automatic string feeder must have been designed by someone who works for the company that makes the string. For <$100, good enough. If I could get it to stop popping out, I'd be quite satisfied. 2 people found this helpful

    Base is faulty

This weed wacker is amazing! I have a small yard and living on the East Coast, the grass gets pretty high. I was able to use one full line of string for my yard and sidewalks as I live on the corner and it’s really powerful. DOWN SIDE: the base to connect the wacker to the wheels does not work. The plastic piece that connects the two parts isn’t large enough and the wacker pops out of the base. It’s dangerous if you’re going up hill or around a bend. I called Black and Decker and they’re sending me a new base. Hopefully this works better. Other than this, it’s a good buy for the the money.

After 4 years, it’s still an incredibly useful and dependable tool

It’s hard to find fault with this lightweight mower. It’s an incredible value, it is super reliable, it does exactly what it is supposed to do. The only things I’ve had to do to it is to replace the string spool when it was used up and, after four years, I finally had to replace the orange cap for $7 here on Amazon. This is a great example of a well designed tool that, for once, takes advantage of the cheap Chinese manufacturing options without letting it become a piece of junk.My only wish is that, for a tall person, the handle should extend a little higher. It would have been great to have a few more inches on the handle if you are on the taller side.

    It functions

I have a little patch of lawn (approx. 400 SF) for my dog. My battery powered lawnmower gave up the ghost and I could not see spending a couple hundred dollars to replace it for such a small area so I gave the Black and Decker a try. It does the job just fine but do realize that this is essentially a weed whacker on wheels. It is more like vacuuming than mowing as you must go back and forth repeatedly to get a good cut. So, if you have a small lawn and want a cheaper alternative than a traditional lawnmower, this will work.

    I was skeptical. Buy it.

I have a 15 year old Black and Decker string trimmer that still works fine but is causing me some shoulder pain from carrying it. This is the replacement purchase I’m glad I made. The reviews said it handled like a vacuum and that’s very true. Easy to maneuver, lightweight, cuts the grass fairly evenly, adjustable height and you can quickly change to the trimmer/edger option. Mine did pop out of the base but not as frequently as other reviewers have said. Very simple to pop back in. I went with the corded option because my yard is small. It was almost an effortless task today compared to lugging around the other trimmer. I should have purchased something like this a long time ago.

Only one problem!! But worked great! After a few modifications.

The media could not be loaded.

This unit worked as intended but I do believe that it’s a design error that the base dose not stay connect properly because with too much force or weird angles(on a hill) the base will pop off. Since I don’t need it to be a weed wacker or edger I decided to JB WELD it to the base making it a permanent lawn mower for my back hill where a normal lawn mower is just to heavy and bulky. This thing works well for what it’s intended for!! Very happy with my purchase! It’s light enough that my grandmother can use it to get some exercise outside!

Good electric lawnmower for the price, lightweight, multi-function, does the job well

Pros:- Easy assembly. Just had to connect shield to weed wacker, lock it in the base, and attach the trimmer/edger handle.- Light weight, can pick it up with one hand.- Compact, can be tucked into a small corner.- Did exceptionally well on my tall grass! Many sections were well over 6 inches. It took a couple times going over, but this little unit worked great and never bogged down! I kept the wheels at the lowest setting the entire time.- I didn’t find it loud at all. Just a typical weed wacker. Definitely not as loud as a gas lawn mower.- Wheels adjust from about 1-2 inches high if you like your grass a little taller.- Handle telescopes out approximately 12 inches. If you are really tall this might not be adequate.- Briefly used the edger, the wheel was a big help, it did the job fine. Haven’t tried the trimmer yet.- Great for a small to medium size yard, limited space for storage, people with arthritis, seniors, disabled, those who can’t lift much weight, and want virtually maintenance free! Besides cleaning, you only need to replace the trimmer cord when it runs out.Cons:- Weed wacker locking mechanism into base is poorly designed. Mine popped out several times. It’s not a constant problem, but annoying (like the IRS or DMV).- Power cord came out of the loop in the handle numerous times. A spring loaded clamp would be much better.- Would be nice to have a grass discharge port in the side.- Sucks having to rake grass afterwards.Other:- Some reviewers said it doesn’t come with a power cord. My warehouse item said missing cord but I don’t recall the box or description saying it is included. You will need an extension cord regardless. Any standard cord plugs into the 2 prong handle fine. This doesn’t require an engineering degree folks.- I bought a warehouse return to save a little money. It was FILTHY! Previous owner did a bad job cleaning it. I’ve bought many warehouse items, but never had anything this dirty before. I did get a nice discount so I can’t complain too much. Also didn’t include owners manual. Maybe I can download a PDF from B&D? These are not product cons as none are B&D fault.

    Great product

I hate weed whacking! This product is as easy as vacuuming the carpet. So easy to use. I’m glad I ordered it. However, it doesn’t do well in deep grass. But, my grass won’t get that long now since this is so easy to use. The trimmer is also detachable if needed.

A few flaws but pretty great overall.

We have a really small patch of grass for the dog to use. Wasn’t worth getting an actual mower for it.This product is pretty much exactly what we need. It’s not exactly a mower but does the job just fine. Unlike a mower, though, you need to use it more like a vacuum cleaner with a back-and-forth motion (which is fine). Overall, very happy with it.Two issues, though, that I hope they consider addressing in a future version of this product: 1) the clip that holds the clipper into the chassis isn’t beefy enough. It’s quite easy to lift up on the handle while using it and the trimmer pops out, angling the string towards the ground and you can leave a divot mark. 2) there is no side-chute to expel the clippings as you go, so everything gets clumped up on the underside of the trimmer, requiring you to flip it over and scrape everything out of it every so often.

Won’t lock into the base, but otherwise great

The media could not be loaded.

That tiny tab is supposed to hold that big ol thing in place?? Well, it does not. So trying to maneuver this thing can be frustrating because it’s constantly slipping out from the base. If the area you’re using it on is flat with no obstructions then you shouldn’t have any issues. I have lots of trees and half my yard is kind of shaped like a bowl and I have fences separating my front/back/side/other side, so it got tricky. However, still gets 4 stars from me because it did just knock out 1/2 acre that was packed with weeds that were well above my knees, and some with stems as thick as my thumb. All that rain we got in CA has made some massive weeds. Worst I’ve seen after living here for 40 years. I was tempted to buy a full sized lawnmower, but this amount of rain/weeds is rare. I have another string trimmer that can’t cut through those thick ones, and also requires many breaks due to my back cramping up so much, so it just wasn’t going to cut it this time. So I was searching for a wheeled string trimmer and found this. This little mower saves my back and I can go until the heat from our desert sun makes me quit. What usually takes a week I got done in 3 days, working 3 hours a day, and that’s with 5x the weeds I usually have, and 10% of that time was spent fighting with extension cords. Overall very happy with this for the price and size of it.

    Gets the job done

This 3in1 is perfect for smaller yards. Although, the mechanism that holds the weed eater to the mowing attachment is a little flimsy and comes out fairly easy. I would also recommend upgrading the string as the string that comes with it is not the best. Overall, a good budget 3in1 that’ll get the job done without paying 200 dollars for a gas powered push mower

    Works pretty well

I bought a new house with a tiny yard and didn’t want to hire a lawn service to do something that would take 5 minutes. Unfortunately, thanks to a ton of rain and a month of not being mowed, it turned into a bit of a jungle (before picture). This little dude did the trick and cut right through the mess. I used just the weed whacker first and shortened it quite a bit, then clipped it into the mower accessory and finished it.My only complaints are that the mower attachment popped off a few times and the spool it came with ran out in under 15 minutes so I could finish the edges like I’d wanted to. I ordered some replacement spools and if those run out just as quickly, I may need to update my rating.Otherwise, it was easy to use and got the job done.Update:The replacement spools last better – I bought the off brand replacement pack on Amazon for super cheap and the spool I put on is holding up quite well, which tells me they put a cheap sample spool on the original product to force buyers to purchase more.I am changing the rating from a 4 to a 3, though, because the mower attachment simply will not stay clipped on. The clip design is not sturdy enough to hold onto the weed whacker and pops off every time you need to turn the mower. The weed whacker handle also rotates when it’s clipped into the mower attachment and needs to be readjusted frequently. As a weed whacker, it works fine, but as a mower, the design needs improvement.

I was worried about perching this, but I am so glad that I did. My front yard is on a hill and it’s hard for me to push mower up and down. This is so lightweight and the handle extends to where I don’t have to stand on the hill. I can carry it through the house because I’m in the middle town house. My backyard grows so quickly and it’s just perfect for me. I think a whole 30 minutes and I’m done the front and the back of the house.

    Love it so far…

As I’ve aged, using heavy grass trimmers was too hard on my upper back. This contraption allows me to garden again. It cuts reasonably well, though I wish the wheeled base was made of sturdier plastic. (Maybe if it was ‘Made in America?’) I cannot quite master properly nesting the trimmer into the wheeled base until it is secure. But it was reasonably priced for what it is.

Lowest Mower Height Answer: 22 1/2 inches!! 🙂

Like others, I needed to know the lowest measurement setting from the ground to the operating button with the mower attachment and trimmer in place. For some unknown reason, the community answers seemed to avoid such an easy question for those who owned one?! With that said, I just purchased my own to get that exact answer with a measuring tape. The LOWEST MOWER HEIGHT (from ground to button pressed): 22-1/2 inches. The HIGHEST MOWER HEIGHT (from ground to button pressed): 31-1/2 inches.**Due to my very own physical needs, the lowest height works perfectly for me! Fortunately, I did not have any of the ‘troubles’ that some have reported with theirs. If it works as it all did with my first use on a small yard today for even a season or two, I would definitely purchase again! Although it does kind of sound like a small shop vac in use, it is absolutely adorable and FUN for me to use. I love it!!It does look like a toy and is nearly identical to vacuuming (with both physical motions & width). So those that are impatient, hate vacuuming or want to look ‘manly’, may not appreciate this trimmer/mower like I already do. Did I mention that I I love this thing! :)However, as not to wear down the thin and very narrow plastic lip that holds the trimmer into the mower attachment, I personally won’t be pressing the trimmer into the mower attachment until it “clicks” per the instructions. Instead, I simply press on the pedal and gently seat the trimmer all the way in before releasing the pedal to lock it in place. Noting again, that’s just my own suggested solution to hopefully prevent that thin plastic ‘lock’ from wearing down so easily, or as I see that it probably could otherwise.Further, the trimmer seems to hold in place just fine when pressing the trimmer handle down to make turns (just like placing the weight on the back wheels to turn a vacuum). To ‘lift up’ on the trimmer handle when mowing, is when it wants to detach from the mower –so don’t do that people lol.Just like every electric tool that I’ve ever owned, it does NOT come with an extension cord (and it makes me laugh that anyone would expect it to). However, since I wanted an extension cord designated just for this unit, I also purchased what did NOT work –and that was a 50 ft 16AWG Yellow HUANCHAIN brand through Amazon at the same time as well. To my disappointment and even trying to force it further into the plug hole, that extension cord does NOT and will NOT make a tight enough contact to fit but for ‘brief’ contact spurts. At first, that was a big GRRR there for me because the mower kept cutting out before I realized it was that extension cord that was barely making contact. Okaaay….**Instead though and most fortunate for me, I ended up using my older orange extension cord (that most of us have laying around) that has a slightly narrower plug encasement … which seats all the way into the plug for continuous contact well and fits perfectly tight! With my recent experience: If it feels slightly wobbly, kind of loose or pulls out too easily… just forget it and try another extension cord plug! You’re welcome. LolAgain, before getting super frustrated with the extension cord constantly coming loose from the plug (like I did with the brand new yellow one), you may want to try to find an older style or better fitting extension cord first (even if to take the trimmer to your local hardware store to try one there)!See my extension cord pics as example: Orange (narrower) = Perfect & Tight Fit! Yellow (chubbier) = Frustrating, Loose & Horrible Fit!!Lastly, my reason for purchase: Living in an apartment with a small yard has became just too ridiculous annoying every year to ‘wait’ for yard maintenance not even mowing until the weeds are almost 18″ high and allowing the clippings to just fall where they may for their tenants to just track long grass/weed clippings into our cars and apartments — I finally had ENOUGH when a thorn weed recently caught my pant leg causing me to trip and fall! With this fun to use, light and nifty little edger/mower that I can enjoy taking care of my yard weekly and all by myself… I won’t and NEVER will want such careless “yard maintenance” in or around my yard (or vehicle) again now anyway! I’m not done yet but just after mowing the whole yard once & quickly edging to ‘test’ it today, my yard already looks way better than it ever has before! I’m HAPPY and very pleased with this fun little B&D trimmer/mower being my new ‘toy’!The only reason I’m not including pics of the results with its use on my yard today is due to some privacy concerns but it already looks GREAT! Yet, I hope my lengthy review helps answer some of the questions that I had prior to my having to purchase it to find out for myself anyway. I’m sure glad I did though! I don’t enjoy raking so to prevent that, I will just be sure to mow weekly through the growing season because I CAN and will enjoy doing so, too. Just make sure you get a tight fitting extension cord and well then . . . Happy mowing the easy way!! 🙂

A great package for the money, for small lawns

I’ve mowed and trimmed my lawn about 5 times with this now and it’s just fantastic. For the money. As long as you have a small lawn. My lawn is about 1000 square feet. If the lawn were much larger than that it might be too much for this. So, you get a little lawn mower, an edger, and a string trimmer, all in one. Never have to charge batteries, batteries never run out of charge, and it’s probably as powerful as the most powerful battery operated ones, since it has an unlimited supply of all the power it needs. Dragging around an electric cord is a little cumbersome but again, as long as the yard is fairly small then it’s no big deal. I mow as if I were vacuuming a carpet, moving sideways until that 6′ strip of lawn is finished then move on to the next 6′ strip. That keeps the cord behind me at all times. The edger takes some practice to do well but it’s doable and the end result is nice. And when you’re done the handle collapses down to save space, which is nice. The one negative is the cord connector which is designed to be used with only their power cords (sold separately) but I was able to squeeze my cord into it and it works fine. Trimmer string feed has not failed, and I know to keep the string cutter clean and sharp. Mower has 3 height positions for different grass heights, easily adjusted. Mower is of course light enough to easily pick up and swing around into position–something you can’t do with a regular mower. All in all it’s really cool. Low cost, compact, easy, light, and it works. I almost feel guilty, given the hassle my neighbors have to go through with their mowers and trimmers.

    Great Product

The only area I have to mow is an 80’ x 12’ ditch in front of my home. The ditch holds water almost year round so mowers often can’t get the job done. I’m 70 years old with a bad back so nothing heavy can be used. This item is perfect. At 10 lbs it feels weightless. The string trimmer cut the grass and the wheels kept it at the same height. Yes, you have to go slowly but it handled the sides of the ditch easily. The added feature is when you need a trim stringer for one spot you simply step on the release lever and use the string trimmer. Pop it back in the frame and continue mowing.I have one complaint about the design. The small plastic piece that holds the trimmer in the frame is too small and flimsy. When you pull backwards or upwards the trimmer wants to pop out of the frame. I fixed it by attaching a short buggy cord from the handle to the release lever. This holds everything together and still allows the release lever to work when you step on it. I had to drill a small hole in the plastic release lever to hook up the bungy cord.Great tool for small jobs.

Works better than I thought it would! Husband is impressed.

Bought this before consulting with my husband as too which mower to buy. Wanted something small and easy enough for me to handle by myself. We live in a camper so our yard isn’t very big. Very impressed with how easy it is to use and how good it works! Wish I took before and after pictures of our yard because you would be amazed

it works but needs extra personal work/adjustments make it work like you need it to.

it works……. but there were 2 main problems like many others have mentioned before.1. the attaching part in which turns into the mower detaches super easily with a light pull. (pretty ridiculous)my solution: taping it down was the only way…..2. the freakin extended power cord doesnt fit into the mower. like really stupid design that its stuck in a hole so pretty much you cant push the cord into the plug part because the sides of the hole is too small……… this is a huge flaw in the design especially since i was using amazon basic power cord……my solution: i took out 4 screws from the mower power place and handle and shoved the power cord in. it worked but its stupid because i can only leave it in there now and never take it out cause its a hassle.overall my experience was ok since i problem solve these stuff but these stuff shouldn’t have been a problem in the first place especially if your selling a product. also im too lazy to go through the process of returning it but im not satisfied by the productPS: im not sure but i feel like i got a used mower, the mower attachment part had some grass left over still on the wheels not alot but still a bit. and there was a scratch on the actual mower part! but the im not sure part is that the extra parts to the mower like handle and cover were new in sealed bags. so im not sure if they just gave me a used mower and added the new stuff…… also the box looked super beat up and looked like it was pre owned. the pic shows the box that was super messed up. i didnt rip it open or anything it just came out looking like that… just a small caution.

    Don’t buy it!!!

This product is not worth buying!!! I bought it because of its interesting design and its price and the brand name and because I have a small yard and our lawn guy pissed us off because he wanted to charge us $35 every 2 weeks whether our yard needed to be cut or not. This design was a great idea but needs to be done better. The first and biggest problem is that the 2 pieces come apart too easily while in use. The second issue is that the line only lasts for about 1.5 cuts front and back. Our lot size is about 7000 sqft including a 1700 sqft home on the lot. I believe the backyard which is the biggest of the 2 yards is about 45×35 feet and the front is about half this size. The trimmer grab handle needs to be able to rotate for edging. The replacement spools are expensive and getting harder to find. Walmart is now selling their own line of Lawn Care equipment and no longer sells B&D replacement spools. I purchased the less expensive system that uses an extension cord and it is very easy to run over the cord which will damage the cord casing. I made the decision not to buy the rechargeable system because the reviews stated that the batteries only lasted about 20 minutes each with an added cost of around $70 almost double what I paid. My lawn takes me about 3 hours to cut with about 2 15 minute breaks included in that time frame with this machine. The deck has no adjustment for height and so the grass is cut too short which causes it to burn easily in the hotter months. There is no grass catcher so it leaves clumps of clippings all over the yard depending on how high the grass is when you cut it. The trimmer being used as a blade is not very effective for cutting grass so you have to go over the same spot several times to get an even cut so that your lawn looks uniform. Also the width of the deck is considerably smaller and doesn’t cover as much ground. The trimmer loses its effectiveness as the line shortens so you will have to constantly stop and release more line several times to finish the task of cutting your lawn. If you have to have something cheap in a pinch it does work and at $89 I have already paid for the machine with the savings from cutting my own lawn and there is a lot of satisfaction afterwards when you know that you have cut your own lawn to your own level of quality. So unless you are very patient and have some extra time be prepared for at least 3-4 hours in triple digit heat and many moments of frustration especially if you’re located in Texas like I am. I’m in the Dallas area so it’s probably going to be even hotter the closer you get to Houston. I will probably be replacing this machine with a more expensive larger rechargeable mower with a bagging attachment and a much better quality rechargeable trimmer. A blower is also a must because you are usually too tired to sweep 🧹 and it takes forever too. You get what you pay for but I have paid for the machine with the savings from 3 cuts at $35 for the service.

Great idea, slightly missed the mark room for improvement!

I have a relatively small yard that I have been using a weed eater to mow it for several years. I was always disappointed in the look of the lawn afterwards. I live in southeast Alaska and the grass grows fast and it rains a lot. I wanted something that I could use to quickly mow when there was a period of no rain. This seemed to fit the bill and to a degree it did.First off the concept is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I needed something small and maneuverable that would leave a nice cut and that it does. However there are some quality points and features that didn’t live up to what I had hoped for.On the trimmer -For pluses It’s lightweight, corded, and has decent power from the 6.5 amp motor. The negatives it has one string instead of two, it cutting radius is kind of small, it’s pretty short for tall folks, and the cord holder doesn’t function as well as it should.I found the trimmer to be able to cut pretty much everything BUT it was SLOW. My other black and decker corded trimmer had a 7.5 amp motor with two strings and it is a beast. It will cut damn near everything fast. With the new trimmer it just cuts slower with that one string and the cutting radius I find hard to believe is a full 12in. The cord holder looked like it was going to work great but kept coming out of its holder because the little clip that hooks the cord was too large to grasp the narrow lawn extension cord that I had. (10amp two prong) To fix this annoyance I have to tie the extension cord to the handle which works. The height adjustment is I’m sure okay for most people. I’m 6’3” and it’s for sure shorter than is comfortable to trim for longer periods. Luckily with the mower attachment I’m not having to bend with the weight. On the lawnmower deck-The lawnmower deck is an excellent idea. Being able to clip that bad boy into the trimmer and go and just as easily unclip it and use it to trim is awesome. The entire concept is just great in my opinion. However there are some glaring issues with it that need addressing.First the deck height adjustment. It has two height adjustment notches in the front and back, they are very easily adjusted…. to easily adjusted. Unless you always want the shortest setting, you will have problems. The spring tension holding the deck in the notch is very weak. It’s easy to move, but it pops out of the notch you want and changes pretty much when it hits the ground. If you are handy you can swap the springs to make it tighter. I would rather a locking mechanism that took longer to adjust and actually held your setting than the quick change.Second the clip that holds the trimmers guard to the deck is pretty weak. If and when grass gets in the mating surface between the trimmer guard and the mower deck you will have a hard time keeping the two attached. Even with this cleared you can easily pull the trimmer off the deck without disengaging the release. That turns annoying if you are trying to trim and area that’s uneven or on a slope. Attempting to control the mower without a solid connection makes the whole setup feel very cheaply made. This was becoming pretty infuriating when the trimmer would just pop off. I’m not sure of a quick fix for this issue but will update if I find something that worked for me.All in all I’m happy that I got the trimmer. I’m for sure disappointed with some features and have some concerns of longevity with the attachment points of the two components. However with the price point it’s an incredibly cheap method of mowing a small lawn and making it look much better. In the future I would like to see a more powerful motor(7.5-8 amp), two strings with more options on string diameter, a full 14in cutting swath, longer trimmer height adjustment, a better mower deck to trimmer attachment lock that’s more solid, and a locking feature for the deck height. THAT is a lawn mowing solution I would pay top dollar for.

    Awesome workhorse

I should have taken before and after photos. However this thingwork like a charm, becaues I was abit overgrown I was hoping to at least trim it down until I could get a regular size lawnmower, No need, this thing cut down 2 foot overgrowth like a beast.Theere is a bit of a learning curve, you need to use a sweeping or back and forth motion like vacuming, this is basicaly a weed whacker with a deck attachment. Which brings up thone of the only 3 downsides I have:1- the clip holding the unit into the base needs to be stronger, 10 minutes of use and it started to come undone when I picked it up, frequently cleaning of grass build up helped somewhat but in reality the clip barely touches the lip of the unit, snapped in perfectly when first started. now it comes undoe very easily.2- the height setting are useless , I need to keep it at the highest setting otherwise the spool drags the ground and the wheels don’t all reach the ground evenly. I placed it on the cement walk way just to make sure it was not the ground being uneven. nope, the spool hangs down too far.3- and lastly, the trigger should have a lock to hold it down, like a small toggle or deadmans button under the palm part. It is nice that you don’t have to grip it too hard to keeping it running but it does getting a bit fatigueing.Overall though, I recoomend this Item. It does what it says and a little more, not for heavy duty yard work or a large lawn but for small to maybe med sized ares it is perfect. I also recomend either buyng more spools or replacement line. along with it. but that was just poor planning on my part, as I stated earlier, I was a bit overgrown. 3 out of 5 for the 3 reasons liste but 5 stars for everything else.

Very surprising how well this works

I wouldn’t have bought this if not for all the positive reviews. I just didn’t believe that a string trimmer could be effective cutting grass as well as a lawn mower. I have a very small front yard. It’s about 30′ X25′. We get rain all the time in spring and summer making it difficult to find time when you can cut the grass. Consequently, the weeds get about 6″ tall sometimes before I can cut them. I looked at how dense the weeds were and how tall they were and I said NO WAY. To my surprise, this little beast cut right through them. It was more like running the vacuum than cutting the grass. I sort of ran it back and forth like I was vacuuming the rug and it cut everything! Even a few of those big weeds – the ones with the half inch stem. What really sealed the deal was when I hit about 5 bricks in my yard, large chunks of brick really. Since they weren’t there last year, I can only assume my lovely neighbor needed to get them out of her yard and figured my yard was the closest dumping ground. Thanks neighbor. The weeds were so deep I couldn’t see them until the lawnmower hit them. The first couple I hit it took in stride but after about the 5th or 6th one the string broke at the housing and could no longer feed. I took the bottom cover off and pulled the spool out while fighting it to stay wound the whole time. I was thinking Great! Once these weed wackers get unwound, they never work right again. I tried to wind the string back evenly as I could, fed it back through the feed hole, and snapped the cap back on. To my surprise, it worked again perfectly. It only took me 5 minutes to recover completely from hitting 5 bricks😁. This is definitely a keeper for small yards.

A few flaws but pretty great overall, Gets the Job Done

The media could not be loaded.

Please watch the video – so far great product, light weight and does it’s job. This product is pretty much exactly what we need. It’s not exactly a mower but does the job just fine. Unlike a mower, though, you need to use it more like a vacuum cleaner with a back-and-forth motion (which is fine). Overall, very happy with it.It gets the job done, but the lip that engages the deck is just a bit too small, and the trimmer pops out way too easily. If you are not operating with little pressure on handle.First off the concept is EXACTLY what I was looking for. I needed something small and maneuverable that would leave a nice cut and that it does.

Phenomenal for disabled or folks with back, leg pain!

Using this is easier than vacuuming the floor. That’s how it works as a mower. Pop the weed eater into the base, plug it in and go! You don’t have to fuss with the line!! It does it on its own. The refill lines are cheap too!!The weed eater on its own is awesome. The line is always the same length and cuts through thick, tough growth. This is in the top 5 of best purchases I’ve ever made. Give it a shot! I’m disabled, severe back issues and it’s so easy on your body. It isn’t heavy either. The wheels roll well!

This was perfect for .10 acre.

This works perfectly with .10 acre. If you can vacuum in the house, you can operate this, it’s literally that easy. Just go slower on when going over thick grass other than that make sure you are not pushing in when moving forward or you might unlock the setting. It is great to just pick up and move for tight areas. The handle doesn’t flip to the opposite side as shown in the diagram (Or I didn’t understand how to do that.) Other than that, I love it. It’s not as loud as a gas lawn mower and less air gas pollution going into the home. Lastly, IF you are going to allow children to use it, please supervise. It is still a weed hacker and if they ‘play with it,’ it can still harm them.

I would love it if it would stop coming apart.

It does a great job and is easy to assemble. It is also easy to change the twine. I found that if I wash it off in between uses, it doesn’t detach from the base as much. However, if you detach it while using it or it comes off, it will continue to do so until you rinse it off.It needs a better locking mechanism to keep it attached to the base. The remnants build up underneath and once detached makes it impossible or to fully lock it back on. The house we bought has a cute little decorative garden area. The lady planted mint to keep rodents away and the mint has taken over. I made the mistake of mowing down the mint and that put grass seed in the area. I use this in hopes of keeping the mint mowed down and keep grass out.I have a love hate relationship with this thing. At this point, I would have returned it if it wasn’t past the deadline for returns. Again, if the locking mechanism would secure it firmly to the base, I would love it.

    WOW!!!!!

Our lawnmower was stolen from our driveway the same day our weed whacker broke…. I was in a bind, and figured for the price and next day delivery, all I really needed immediately was the weed whacker portion to do my backyard. I really didn’t have high hopes but…..How wrong I was! This thing ate through the KNEE HIGH weeds in my backyard like it was NOTHING! I couldn’t believe it. Not once has it gotten tangled, and it’s so lightweight it barely takes any effort to push! I’m genuinely impressed!!!!!The back and forth motion this mower tool requires is quite a bit more like vacuuming than mowing a yard, but that’s the only semi-negative I’ve seen for this tool! Bravo, Black and Decker!

Why did I wait this long to get this?

I should have gotten this so long ago. I have had a battery operated version, but the battery life quickly gets shorter. When the grass is a tad too long, it doesn’t cut, but wraps around. This corded weed wacker is powerful. And it doesn’t run out of juice after long use! Only gripe is that it fit the lawn mower attachment from before (yes, I had one for the battery operated one, too). In the hind sight I could have swapped the black covering, but I wasn’t 100% sure. The size made me believe that it wouldn’t have worked. But having the attachment makes it so easy to mow the small strips of grass too narrow for my regular mower can’t fit.

This definitely works it did an amazing job on my yard. The only reason for 4 stars is the plastic piece under that’s doing the cutting has to be replaced. Great for a small space

I’ve got a 20′ x 35′ patch of grass (and weeds) that doesn’t justify the cost and storage of a full sized lawnmower. With this little machine, I got the whole thing mowed and edged in about a half an hour the first time out. I can see myself getting faster with it as I get more practice. No claims on its long term reliability yet, but it seems pretty well made.I went with the corded version because my yard is right next to the garage where the outlet is, so a 50′ 16GA cord does the job. The yard is small enough that the slight inconvenience of dragging the cord around beats the cost and hassle of batteries.

We have a tiny patch of grass to mow so we didn’t need an actual mower. This was perfect! Light and easy to use. Simple to switch between mower and week wacker. BUT… even though it says “corded” it has no cord. I had to run and get a 50’ foot outdoor cord. Besides that it was great. Just wish I knew.

Great setup for a small yard

If you have a small yard and don’t want to lug around a bulky mower, this product is amazing. As others have mentioned, you have to buy a 2 pronged extension cord, which many people won’t have on-hand, but you can pick one for $30 at Home Depot…it’s still a good value. I didn’t have the same issue some have mentioned with using a lot of line the first use, but I have a theory on what may be contributing to it. I happened to notice while assembling, that the blade that cuts the string off on the guard is shipped with tape over it. Presumably, this is to protect you from getting cut while assembling the item (assembly was very easy to do). The tape dulls the blade, so it won’t be cutting the line as it auto-feeds until it wears off naturally. I removed the tape before using the first time and didn’t have any issues with using too much line. It’s rather difficult to remove the tape and you have to be careful not to cut yourself…honestly it wasn’t worth the effort and I wouldn’t go through the trouble again. I just thought I would offer a possible explanation on why it may use more line than you expect the first couple of uses. It could be a coincidence and I may have just been lucky, but it seems to be a plausible explanation for an issue that many have mentioned.

Absolutely perfect for what I needed

I almost didn’t get this because of the reviews I read.Let me say right now, I love this!!! It works perfect for me and what I need. My yard is small and it has some clumpy crab grass areas and weeds ( lots of clover and dandelions) and some missing grass. I was worried about it not working because of the bad reviews.I have not had Any of the issues so many reviewers have mentioned. It has to be Operator Error or human ignorance, because NONE of the things people said happened and why they gave it only 2 stars happened to me!!!This mower is light weight, it is sturdy and well built and when you pull the trigger the mother whirrs and sounds hearty and beefy and it gets the job done. My grass was really high and I was afraid of being disappointed but I wasn’t!! This mower cut through it like a champ. Yes, you have to mower like you are vacuuming. You can’t just push it down straight lines and turn and come back like you would a push mower.Just push it back and forth in front of you a small area at a time like vacuuming. My neighbor even came out to see what I was doing because he saw me moving along pretty fast and he could hear the motor. It never once lagged or had an issue with even the tallest and thickest crab grass clumps in my yard. It never fell out of the wheel base. The string never ran all out. I have mowed twice now and still have plenty of the original string. I stepped on the detach lever and then easily weed eat the rest and I was done in like 15 mins. I simply hosed off the base and took a small brush to clean the trimmer part.I am so happy with my purchase. This unit is light weight and simple to use. It is a pleasure to mow the yard again. And I only need this one mower to do everything. No changing equipment.

Light, powerful, easy to use and durable

IMPORTANT: It came with a tiny 3ft tester of string. Buy the multipack of AF100 autofeed spools when you buy this. Or just rewind your empty spools from bulk line (0.065)— if you have the patience.I love how light weight this trimmer is. It’s very rugged and durable even though it’s made of light plastic. If you can use a vacuum cleaner, you can use this. It’s VERY easy to use. Unlike gas-powered, this won’t wear out your arms and shoulders. It’s almost as powerful as gas-powered. Way more powerful than battery/cordless. I prefer this over gas-powered because the vibration is MUCH lower, which really saves your neck and shoulders from getting tired.Lovely edging capability. Neat and tidy. It has a sturdy walking wheel so you can get a straight edge without wobbling. Seriously it’s incredibly easy to use. It’s super convenient to switch from trimming to mowing. Just step on the release paddle and unhook it from the mounting frame. The mounting frame can get clogged with ground up grass paste so you will need to carry a cheap chip brush to sweep out that clasp hitch before remounting, otherwise the trimmer will pop out of its mounting frame.I have a super tiny front yard and this trimmer is PERFECT for what I need. It’s ONE tool that mows your lawn, and edges sidewalks, and trims around landscaping. You won’t go wrong buying this. Just be sure to stock up on extra spools or bulk line.

4 stars, might go up to 5 later.

I am giving this 4 stars for now. After a few months of use I might raise to 5 (or maybe reduce). Anyway, this does exactly what I wanted it to do. If you think this is going to give you a “golf course lawn” forget it. It is a weed whacker on a fairly heavy duty set of plastic wheels. I have two medium size solar arrays and I wanted something to cut the grass under them, because my riding mower won’t fit. Something that works better than a weed whacker alone. This works perfectly for that. On its first run, I put it into thick, wet grass that was between 9 and 12 inches high. It cut it with no problem and it actually looked “ok”, not great but better than I expected. Now, if you cut wet grass be aware that the automatic cutter for the line will clog up fairly quickly, so you need to keep it clean of packed wet grass or else all of your line will be pulled out of the unit. I don’t advise cutting wet, I did it to see what the unit could do. It did well. It also does a reasonable job trimming to the fence line and then a quick disconnect removes the weed whacker from the base and you go to town trimming. It is exactly what I wanted, maybe even better than I expected. Keep it clean and it will do wonders for you.
