Easily broken and no fix found

The Bissell carpet sweeper worked well for the first few uses. Then the middle brush popped out and I cannot find anything to say how to put it back in. We had one of these when I was growing up and it was easy to pop out the middle roller for cleaning and pop it back in. Not so with this model. It worked well on my low pile carpet and flooring until it broke, but even though the price is decent, it hardly matters when it has to be thrown out within six months. Very upsetting to have wasted my money and added to landfills.

Great and quick alternative to vacuums!

I bought this for my school library as kids often are messy while working on the day’s assignment. I don’t want to ask our custodians to vacuum every day (it’s a huge space) and I don’t want to bother them to borrow the vacuum all the time or shell out big money for one of my own for work. This is the perfect solution! It easily works on the industrial, flat-pile carpet to get up smaller pieces of paper and debris after the kids pick up crayons and larger pieces of trash. Plus, the students find it so novel with its lack of electricity that they clamor to be my sweeper helper! I bought another one for home to pick up pieces of hay our guinea pigs kick out of their enclosure (or my kids drop when feeding them) without clogging our main vacuum. Even though the carpet in those rooms is a bit deeper pile, this sweeper works wonderfully for that, too. Highly recommend!

    Works As Expected.

I purchased this manual sweeper to keep in a small space near my entryway. I folds up nicely which I love. You can squeeze it into a small. I dislike the fact that the stick is so short. I am an average height woman (5’5″), and the height of the stick is a joke. The sweeper does its job and picks up all of the dirt and debris that the doormat collects. I love the fact that it’s also not your typical red or black manual sweeper color. I would recommend it to other buyers that are in the market for a manual sweeper.

    It does the job

I got this specifically to clean a mat that my landlord placed in the vestibule, which nothing could get clean (it’s one of those super low pile, commercial mats). This got it looking almost new in a flash. I decided, since I’d spent the money, to use it in my space as well, with fair results. It picked up most of what was on the floor, but could not grab bits of paper at all, and sometimes did just push things around, but eventually got it. All in all, I’m glad that I have this and it will be used often. Got the Blossom (green) and the old school kitsch of it is pretty darn cute.It is very light and surprisingly small. I really wish that it were a little larger, but mostly just that the handle were longer. I’m fairly short (5’4″) and the handle is just long enough for me. It is definitely not the sturdiest thing ever, and I can see the handle being a weak point, as it is thin and hollow, but it doesn’t seem fragile enough to just break with everyday use. The bristles are hard to clean because there is just no good way to remove them, so you’d want to do that after every use to avoid a build up. The dust containers on the bottom though… They catch dust/dirt/etc, but they can spill out, so again, empty after every use.

    Bissell Carpet Sweeper

This little sweeper, which replaced my 25+ year old Bissell Sweeper) is quite effective in picking up crumbs and such objects from my tile floors. It would also work on low pile carpet but not as a replacement for a vacuum – only in case of an “emergency” In assembling the handle – had to enlist the help of WD40 and a pair of pliers on one section (was out of silicone) but mission accomplished, finally. The one section simply did not want to screw into place but all turned out well. Sweeper is made in China. All in all, I’m pleased with the sweeper – light weight, easy to empty and worth the money. If you have a small comb it would be handy to use on the brushes to remove swept up hair – but other than the cranky handle section, I have no complaints.,

    Works well but needs work.

I love the look of this. The color and design makes it fun for my classroom. The vacuumed itself works well. The mechanics are well made. However the handle and screw in points do not keep their treads long. I’ve had to duck tape it a few times.Otherwise it works very well and is easy to use and empty when done.

    great little rug cleaner

Works Great! Was surprised how much cat hair was on my new area rug I’ve had for a month! (rest of the house is all hardwoods) Retro print design on the light teal case gives it a cute Art Deco vibe. Not that its out on display or anything but the design calls back to an era long gone that’s looked back on fondly.

    Does the job

This sweeper is okay for an occasional light job. It picks up really well, IF you have the “right” rug or carpet. I’ve tried it on different thickness of rugs and it does better with some than others. Too high of a plush, and it’ll take extra effort to get it rolling. Too thin, and it won’t pick up a whole lot. I also don’t think it’ll last very long. The handle is connected to the sweeper by a very small welded (maybe glued) section, and I mean really small. I suspect that if your rug is too thick, it’ll require extra effort to get it rolling and the handle will snap. So, it’s good for light jobs as it does pick up quite a bit, but the handle is a bit flimsy, so you kind of have to be careful. I also don’t think the handle is too short. I’m 5-7 and it works fine for me. Another reviewer also made this suggestion… the top of the handle screws on. You just have to push it in and screw it. Overall, this is an okay product for the price point and what it does.

    Love but break easily

We love these for quickly cleaning but we’ve had to replace multiple times because they do break easily with young kids around. That being said, we do keep replacing them so they are worth it.

    Great for light sweeping

Lightweight, easy to use, easy to empty. Perfect for small jobs, quick pickup for small pieces of pet food, crumbs, just a quick refresh in a small area. Do not recommend if there is pet hair. The hair will tangle up instantly and destroy the brush.

    Great value for price.

Works perfect for touch ups between regular vacuuming. We have low pile area rugs and throw rugs over laminate and wood floors, and this sweeper works well, picking up pet hair, leaves, pine needles, etc. The brushes do need to be cleaned regularly if you have pets.

    Does a decent job

It does a good enough job for what we needed this for. It doesn’t pick up everything but does get most of it. Some items it tends to just push around. It is lightweight and easy to put together. And aesthetically pleasing on the eyes.

    Not completely what I expected

I thought it was going to be adult size. So it is shorter than it looked in picture. The handle easily twists off when your trying to push it. It picks up ok on carpet but throws a lot off carpet instead of picking up. A lil disappointed with this sweeper.

    Incredible portable sweeper

This sweeper works amazingly good for the price. Picks up anything from Douglas for needles to people/ dog hair. Only draw back is the handle is not long enough for tall people. (Why not add just one more tube section (comes with three one screw together to make the handle) and let people decide their own length .). Deduct one point for the lack of this short handle for tall people.

    Okay, but not great

It does what I need it to do (gather up litter and cat hair), but I’ve had problems like many other people with (1) the center brush falling out and (2) the handle coming apart. I solved the brush problem by pushing it with the logo upside down and pointing toward me (see photo). Not sure why that works, but it does. The top part of the handle, however, keeps coming off. The threading on the segment below it isn’t grooved enough for the top part to successfully screw onto. I’ll probably see if I can glue it.

    Handle keeps coming apart

This little vacuum actually works great and my kids love to use it (which is an added bonus). The only reason for 3 stars is that the handle constantly comes apart and I had to duct tape the handle pieces together. Otherwise it is great for frequent touch ups when you don’t want to get the big vacuum out.

  29. Cesar

    2.0 out of 5 stars

    Not bad

I used extra heavy/sticky black tape to make sure the poles don’t come apart. I’m still afraid the welding will break where the handle attaches to the lower arms but it looks like these are issues with all the versions you can get. I like the name brand and color of this version. It does well with small pieces of things on the floor. I was hoping it would be a little quieter to use while people are sleeping. You can make it quieter if you just move it slower but it would take a long time to clean if you do that. Is it quieter than a vacuum? Maybe, I guess it is depending on the vacuum. Just be careful bumping it around too hard. It doesn’t get in corners well so do yourself a favor and just stay clear of walls and under cabinets. Use your vacuum for the dust bunnies in the corners as often as you feel you need. This is replacing one of my Roombas which I love but the batteries don’t last forever. Ironically that does really well in corners and keeps the dust bunnies at bay. Neither this nor a Roomba can replace a good vacuum but they don’t have to. This should be added to your kit for daily cleaning. Don’t fall for the versions that cost 4x as much. Just don’t forget the black tape, not electrical tape. That’s not sticky enough.

    Small but Mighty!

I was surprised at the size, especially the handle. I’m 5’2” and fine for me. If you’re taller, it may be a problem. I was impressed at how it picked up and cleaned floor. I have a washable rug and sweeper sucks it up. My robot works fine on it but I needed something for in between. This works great especially for washable rugs. Cleaned my ceramic tiles of dog hair too. I’m happy with my purchase.

    Sigh…

I bought this for a quick clean-up tool in my home office to pick up small bits between vacuums. It works OK until it does not. It likes to suddenly ‘catch’ and dump all the contents back on to the floor. Also takes several passes to pick up tiny bits, would be faster to pick the bits up by hand or just get out the vacuum. Also the pole is SO short it’s basically kid size (I’m 5’7” and have to bend way over to use it). I expected more from such a branded household name.

I’m not sure what I expected

So I’ll start by saying it is light weight and easy to take up and down the stairs. I bought this because I have a crawling infant, hardwood floors, and a lot of sand that grts tracked in; thanks to living in the south. I generally sweep every morning but I absolutely despise dust pans. I also have 3 cats and 2 dogs. I primarily wanted this for the hair, the sand, and all the crumbs.I saw the other reviews that stated it is great if you’re short, so it’s height, or lack thereof was not a surprise to me. However, as my husband was helping to screw the handle together, he kept looking for the 4th bar and kept annoyingly asking me if I was positive that was it. Even though I’m 5’2, I still have to bend over quite a bit to roll the thing around. I wonder if that’s why my back was killing me last night. 🤔I used it once all the brushes were so covered in hair, it became unusable. I had to cut all the hair free before using it a 2nd time. I know I mentioned having a lot of pets, but I also sweep daily.Despite its short comings, (Ha! Accidental pun), I did have quite a bit in the two bins. The two things where I really wish it was better… getting under the cabinets and I wish the handle would “fall” both ways. The handle only falls one way so that the “Bissell” logo is always facing one direction.I’m not decided if it’s worth keeping or if I should get a rechargeable cordless vacuum. It might fit my needs better and work better. 😩

    Classroom

It worked very well for the time I had it and used it (three months), but it did not survive my classroom. It lasted two months before the first part of the handle came off. When I tried to put it back on, it would come back off. The roller on the bottom came off yesterday. Granted I let the students use it to clean up after their mess. They would use it exactly as I had shown them. Other than it breaking, it worked well.

    It’s okay

I remember my grandparents always having one of these when I was a kid and I thought this would be a great solution for those times when you need to vacuum a little bit and don’t want to get out the whole big vacuum. It works really well but the handle is terrible. I had to apply duct tape just to keep them in place. There are three rods that you screw together to create the handle and it’s as if it may be stripped and doesn’t stay connected. It’s also a very short handle. I’m 5’1 and have to slouch a little bit in order to use this. If I had known that the handle would come apart every second it’s in use I would have absolutely returned this.

    Love it

Overall I am really happy with this. Easier than getting the vacuum out all the time! Easy enough that my toddler can use it. It is pretty sturdy, I have had the handle come apart on me but I just used a piece of duct tape to secure it and it’s fine. It does a really great job getting our carpets clean, might even work better than the vacuum to be honest! I love that I can quickly and silently clean with it.

The Brush-Work is Better That Expected

I have throw-rugs on top of wall to wall carpet. If I use a regular power vacuum on some of those throw-rugs, the vacuum has a tendency to want to eat the rugs whole. So, close to impossible to clean them, only burning out the motor of my vacuum. Therefore, what I need is a lot of brushing power, with very little to no suction power. Ergo, such a little machine, like this one.Bissel is a very well known brand name to me. I have Bissel, I have had Bissel, and if I have the extra money, I’d buy Bissel again. This machine is smaller than I thought it would be. But, it’s still large enough to get the job done. So, that’s not the problem. The problem is the handle. It’s too short (by at least a foot), and it’s not thick enough. Simply put, it’s rather lame, and not what I’d expect from a Bissel.Otherwise, as far as cleaning floors goes, it picks up more, than some of the power vacuums, I’ve tested of late.

    Convenient Little Sweeper

We bought this because we have a room with hardwood floors, a low-height area rug, a litterbox, and two cats who spend a lot of time tracking cat litter around in this room. Cats who hate the vacuum cleaner. Sure, it was okay using a broom and dust pan for the hardwood every day, but that’s not effective on the area rug. Even our smaller hand-held vacuum is too loud and scary for the cats to tolerate.I remember my parents and grandparents having a little carpet sweeper similar to this one, and I am so glad that I did remember because this little sweeper is the perfect solution to our fur + tracked litter issue. It was easy to assemble and picks up tracked litter, cat fur, little pieces of cardboard from the cat scratcher and even stray pieces of ‘cat condo carpet’ pieces. It is effective on the hardwood floor and on the area rug and most importantly: it is quiet and doesn’t scare the cats! It is also really lightweight, a bonus for me.

    Impressed!

I can’t testify to this product’s durability, because I opened it when it was delivered eight minutes ago. That’s how excited I was to use it! I rent a room in a house, so when I vacuum, I need to lug my landlord’s vacuum up a flight of stairs and be very careful to clean it afterwards. As a consequence, I don’t vacuum much. Lots of little bits and bobs wind up on the carpet (which isn’t very long carpeting, but it’s still plush enough to be hard to clean).DOWNSIDES so far:The broom isn’t super tall. If you’re taller than I am (5’6″), you may need to stoop to use this. The metal bits are all VERY squeaky to put together, and so is the sweeper when operating. Might be able to oil it to help–I’m not sure.To empty the bin, you have to get your hands dirty–the bin-dump buttons are at the bottom of the cleaner itself.UPSIDES:Everything else!Easy to operate, no electricity. It folds up flat and has a hanger on the handle so you can hang this on the wall or tuck it in a closet to take up virtually no space.Does a good job!My judgment of a vacuum cleaner is how well it can pick up spilled kitty litter, which is the bane of my existence. This little guy isn’t as effective as an actual suction cleaner, so no, it won’t work well at getting litter out of corners. However, it DID pick up quite a bit without scattering more litter everywhere, which is more than I can say for some actual vacuum cleaners I’ve used. The carpet looks and feels cleaner after using. Obviously it’s very quick to use, since again, I literally was able to receive, assemble, use, and store the cleaner in 7 minutes! I should have bought this ages ago.

    A Game Changer!

I vacuum my home about every 7 days. It’s a large old house with a mixture of hard and soft surface flooring. Additionally, I live in a rural area with little to no paved or hard surfaces on the exterior. I’m constantly dealing with grass, small rocks and other materials that come in on our shoes, and on my dog’s feet. (I have two dogs who live mostly indoors but love to track in most of the yard every time they come in the house!) I bought this little guy to help between the vacuum periods… and I’m in love with it!I read the negative reviews about the handle being so short, but it’s not a problem for me. I’m only 5’2″ so while it is a little short, it’s not an issue. What I love about this little sweeper is how well it cleans. It does a great job of picking up grass and other leafy things that make it inside. It also does a really good job on small rocks and some dirt. One of the unexpected super benefits is the amount of dog hair it gets up! I have been absolutely amazed at how much it picks up! I have a ton of area rugs to help protect the wood floors and it does a wonderful job of helping to keep them clean(er)! Also… I saw some negative comments about it not working well on hard surfaces. I found that if I get a little speed up, it does just fine! Zoom!Emptying the sweeper is pretty easy also, once you get the hang of it (at first I kept missing the trash can but now I’ve got it!).I bought the little bright green one. It’s a happy color for such a routine task! I would highly recommend this little sweeper. It’s really helped me keep my floors a lot cleaner in between vacuum’s!PS: Don’t use in a sewing room! The threads get all caught up in the brushes and it takes a while to get them out! Not a surprise really… that also happens to my big vacuum!

    Stylish & Functional Sweeper

The sweeper is stylish and mostly functional. I use it on wood floors and low pile rugs. It does a good job of sweeping up debris on both surfaces. Occasionally, the roller gets stuck and pushes the dirt instead of sweeping it up but it’s easy enough to reset the roller. Dumping the bins is easy for the front side bin but a little cumbersome for the back side bin due to some interference from the handle.

    Not what I expected…

I’m very impressed by this simple thing. I love Mid Century things and this hits it out of the park. It works just as good if not better as my regular vacuum. As far as I know it works best with firm Carpet to bare floors. Probably not the best for plush carpet. It’s not only decorative but also functional. Have not used my vacuum since. Hope it last a long, long time.

Great for the first few uses..

This is an adorable carpet sweeper. I love the color and pattern and it worked very well the first several times I used it. The sweeper itself is very effective. Unfortunately, after a few uses the middle section of the handle unscrewed and won’t screw back together. We had to attach the top of the handle to the bottom part which makes the handle extremely short and super awkward to use…especially for my 6’4 husband 😆. Booooo. We really liked this sweeper and were super disappointed when it fell apart. I feel like Bissell can do better!

Practically new and the brush fell out, updates

This is a manual product. I have used it four times and the central brush fell out on its own. I have contacted the help center at Bissell and I will update this review if they get back to me. Of course, I am 25 days past the return window at Amazon. Fingers crossed. I wouldn’t buy this again now that I see how it is made. Too much plastic. This is the update: I contacted Bissell. Had a live chat. The operator gave me instructions that made no sense despite the fact that she knew what model I was working with. She was describing a different machine. She finally suggested I go to YouTube and look up a particular link. The link led me to how to replace a Fuller Brush brush roll!! After watching it, I realized what a much better mechanism they use for a carpet sweeper. I am going to try to return this to Amazon and buy a Fuller brush product. Bissell has a really poor design here. New update on 11-28: Amazon customer service finally agreed to let me return the sweeper, but it’s 2 weeks past the 30 day return date, so they’re charging me a “RESTOCKING FEE” of $4.80. I’m finished with ordering anything I don’t already own and can trust. Watch out for new fees, folks. Amazon just isn’t making enough money. That $213 billion dollars they made in 2023 thru September.

    Neat Little Sweeper

Just what I wanted for sweeping my big shag rug. Took less than 10 minutes to assemble and did a wonderful job fluffing out the fibers. My rugs collect more dust and hairier than dirt, since I leave shoes by shoes by the door. Therefore, I can’t truthfully comment on the deep cleaning part. I can say that the brushes get between the long rug strands. This sweeper is compact, effective, simple to use, and tucks away neatly into the pantry. I particularly like that it was a same day order and seems worth the price.

Use Case: Keeps a low profile black area rug looking debris free!

Putting this thing together = 3 Stars (feels cheeeep like the sound a newborn bird would make)Using it for the first time = 2 Stars (it was clunky, barely seemed to work, and shorter than expected)***5 Takeaways for the Best Experience***:1. Drop your expectations – it’s under 30 bucks (at time of this review)2. It will be a PITA to twist together, but don’t rush, and it will be just fine3. After facing the logo OUTWARD (aka it looks upside down while you are looking down using it) it will work as expected! The other direction, not so much4. Don’t press downward while you-re using it, it won’t make a difference Lol – All you need to do is let it roll back and forth naturally, just like in the YouTube videos you’ve probably watched :D5. At the end of the day. This thing picks up those annoying little dirties, without having to break out the vacuum cleaner! Easy (and dare I say fun) enough to use multiple times a day and keep things looking clean!Stop doom-reading reviews and go with this one! Then come back and “Like” this review later, once you’re happy with it as well 🙂

    Don’t Replace Your Vacuum

If you’re looking for a replacement for an actual vacuum, go buy another vacuum. I purchased this to have a quiet way to get up the crumbs from my toddler for the day out of my carpet while is sleeping. It’s not the quietest, though, it gets the job done and doesn’t wake the toddler like a vacuum would.Pros:- small- picks up crumbs from carpet- easy to push- doesn’t wake up family at night- easy to store- no cords to step over, pick up as I go, etc.Cons:- have to push at just the right angle to pick up the crumbs; make sure crumbs are relatively being rolled over by the middle section of the sweeper- squeaks when it moves- have to clean brush bristles of hair and dust that it picked up- doesn’t sweep on its own 😁 (obviously not; I’m joking/wishing it could, lol)I bought this from the Amazon Warehouse, knowing that the original packaging would be a bit tampered, however, I did still want the handle grip, and it was not included. I’m reaching out to Bissell directly for a new one.

    Good in a pinch

Bought for high foot traffic areas at work. Easy to assemble and clean. Tidies-up carpets and quiet. My only complaint is the the handle unscrews regularly and is irksome.Fast shipping.
