Doest work without a source of amonia!
I brought this to do a fishless cycle. I didnt want to add fish as I didnt want them to die due to the tank not being cycled. After nearly a week I didnt notice any change to the water and my readings didnt change. The bottle does say that you CAN add fish immediately BUT it doesnt say add the fish because you need their amonia for the quick start to actually work! The bottle doesnt include any amonia at all. So I brought some liquid amonia and another quick start and tried again. After waiting and testing for weeks for the cycle to start it just didnt. It completely stalled. After a large water change it seemed to fix the issue and now my cycle has finished and I have my first 2 fish. This very long and costly wait would all of been solved if they had simply said you need to add a source of amonia for the quick start to work. I wouldnt buy this again. Next time I’ll add liquid amonia and let nature take its course.

DOES NOT INSTANTLY CYCLE TANK
It does NOT instantly cycle the tank but it does help aid in the cycling of your tank and you have to use it multiples times for a few weeks or days but seachem stability works far better.

Before you use this please educate yourself on the nitrogen cycle! It is near impossible to ‘instantly’ cycle a tank and it is important to realize that by assuming this you could seriously impact your pets health. Find what works for you when using this product, as it certainly does help to speed up the cycle when used correctly. For us, we combined the use of a source of ammonia, instant dosing of quick start, plants (which help absorb nitrates) and daily 20%water changes using tap safe. It is important to perform regularly checks And take note of results even after adding your fish to ensure that your water parameters are safe. DO NOT add your fish until your ammonia and nitrite levels are 0 and your nitrate is 0-40ppm. I recommend API Master Test Kit, not strip tests as they are easier to read, more reliable and last longer.

Great stuff!
Thanks to API products I don’t have to worry about my tap having any harmful effects on my pet Betta, or any of my live plants. I’ve also been testing with the API freshwater strip kit and everything seems to be going good and I’m sure it’s due to how quick and well this product works. Check your actual water volume
If you are using this to help cycle a tank, take the time to figure out how much you need per day/week over 6 weeks for your specific aquarium. It does work and I would use the whole bottle in the time it normally takes to cycle. In other words, this isn’t a product you “keep a little for later.”

Misleading claim about adding fish the same day
I used this product in a new planted tank and while it does help Kickstart the beneficial bacteria in the tank, it’s nowhere close to instant cycling or being able to add fish to the tank. Testing with small amounts of ammonium chloride (up to 2.0ppm), ammonia gets converted to nitrites but conversion from nitrites to nitrates is still not happening, or happening very slowly. Nitrite levels are very high and fish would not be able to breath properly as it is, and it’s been 10 days. So yes, this will speed up the cycle and Kickstart it, but it doesn’t make a fresh tank safe for fish the same day as they claim.

i recommend buying this product when you are starting a new aquarium.It has all of the bacteria that you need for converting nitrites (toxic for fish) into nitrates (less toxic for fish).As a beginner, i definitely regret not buying this at when i first started cycling my tank because I was waiting for these bacteria to grow when obviously they were not present.But anyways, it helps speed up the process of cycling the tank.ALSO, shake it really hard before use for full effect. think of it as orange juice, all of the pulp is at the bottom and you need to disperse the good stuff by shaking it lol

I’ve used this in my tank every time I’ve done a water change. Then I test the freshly changed water and my levels are always perfect and most importantly our betta, Bubbles, is still alive and well, which is more than I can say for the betta before bubbles when I didn’t use this product. He died 6 days after we got him and the whole 6 days we had him he was never really right. So this product has to be helping with sumthing. I’m pleased with it

First dose showed a little effect, then nothing
Trying to do a “fish-in” cycle. My tank always had 1 – 2 ppm ammonia and I used prime to protect the fishes. The first dose seemed to turn some ammonia into nitrite (0.1 ppm) and nitrate (2.0 ppm). Excited, however after 2 days all 3 readings stayed the same. Added more doses of quick start every 2 days, and still getting the same readings after 2 weeks.I don’t know whether this is working as designed, or the bacteria in the bottle already died. I do 30% water change every few days.

I honestly didn’t have high hopes for this.I got 2 goldfish as a secret santa present, didn’t have any supplies, not even food…Tank needs to cycle before adding fish so I was doing water changes everyday to keep down ammonia and nitrites (or is it nitrates… see how new I am to fish!). But after adding this to every water change the ammonia was reducing and after 3 uses was gone. Nitrates took a week and now fine. I’d been struggling with no sign of a reduction for weeks. Could have just been the time, but I think it was this product.

Good product
Always used this product but never really found it totally helps keep the water clean. I was told that it would help with water clarity but I’ve never found it to (not without the support of a UV cleaner which was the best Aquarium purchase I ever made).However, having said that, it is safe for the fish and mine have lived in it for years. On the rare occasion when I have have to perform a total water change )issue with a leaking tank), I was able to return the fish to the tank just a few hours later by using this product.Word of warning- check the date before opening the product as the last one I received was past its use by date. Had a full refund though.

Not really worth the money
I bought the product as it says it contains beneficial bacteria to help start up my new fish tank. After using it for a few weeks, I honestly didn’t see much improvements. I did some more research and found that you really don’t need to use these products to cycle your tank, it’s better off to just save your money and cycle the tank naturally (I wish I knew all this sooner).

Actual Life Saver
I could not for the life of me find out what was wrong with my tank for like 2 weeks. Fish were sickly and water changes only worked for like 1/2 day-1 day. This fixed it and recycled the tank, giving new life into the environment. It is like and instant reset to the bacteria and water cycle. Definitely recommend to anyone struggling with the water changes. P.S. Careful though I (PERSONALLY) have found that after the initial dose and maybe a subsequent one to BACK OFF with this and put it into storage as it throws things out of whack with continual use.

I really liked this product compared to other water treatments/biostatistics and the price is pretty cheap for how much you get. My established tanks water quality improved after a week of using and water was crystal clear. When I used it after setting up a new tank it helped with the “cloudy” start up stage and prevents new tank syndrome which any aquarist really hates. The bottle doesn’t leak or drip and the cap doubles as a dosing cup.Really great product, does what it says and you get a lot for a great price compared to other brands.

This is such a great product for aquarium set ups, at the start up or clean up stage. I’ve used it to cycle my 3 gallon tank for a single betta. Very convenient to use and quality of aquarium water is clear and clean. I’m using a sponge filter with API Quick Start – I add some to my tank water according to the instructions, every time I clean the aquarium. It’s working well for me to date.

I had a sudden Nitrite spikes due to warm weather, it really warmed things up and nitrites just kept coming back in high high levels in under 4hrs after a 60% water change!!On the second day, the bacteria from this product established itself, and completely ate up all nitrites and for the first time my nitrates are much lower too!!!I use tap water, I process it in a 5 gallon bottle before adding to my 10 gallon aquarium. I process with API super strength conditioner dechlorifier (1 drop per gallon no more no less if you want your fish to be safe, 5 gallon bottle, hence the 5 drops) and then i mix and then I wait 1hr.Once thats done i use a syringe and inject 5ml of Quick start into the water as well. (1ml per gallon, not drop) I mix and then wait an hour again, that gives time for the bacteria to colonize completely.Sometimes I just set it aside for days after doing all those things because I don’t need the water in the moment, by the time I use it, it will be very dense with healthy bacteria.Overall I’m very very pleased with this product, I had 3 shrimp die from nitrites already, this product is a true hero, saved the rest of my shrimp and fish.

Incredibly useful product for when I change my water. Needed to do an emergency tank change and this helped me get immediately started after conditioning the new water and adding unwashed substrate to immediately have my bacteria colony going strong. Fish seem happy and healthy.

This works super well. I dont recommend adding fish instantly. Depending on the size of the tank I would still give it a few days to establish the bacteria in the aquarium but it cycles your tank super well. 5-20 gal i would recommend 2 days to establish. 20-40 gal i would recommend 4 days. 40-60 gal 6 days and 60+ i would recommend about 7 days up to 10 days. Adding this every other day until its establish while doing 20% water changes every other day during the cycle establishment

Doesn’t work or perhaps received an inactive bottle
I dosed three separate 7 gallon tanks for four days with this, checking ammonia and nitrites each day. Ammonia is constant in each tank at 4-8 ppm, with no detectable nitrites whatsoever.I would be wary of reviews that say their tank worked out fine using this product, when they didn’t actually measure the levels of ammonia and nitrites in their tank. Nitrogen cycling can happen naturally without a starter, and many aquarium fish are remarkably hearty. I’m trying to introduce fragile Caridina shrimp so I’m not so willing to just try it out and hope for the best, without measuring levels of toxins.
